I just returned from the Park Royal after a week with my husband and my parents. (we are 30, they are 60).

Check in was a bit dicey-- arrived in the morning and they said rooms would not be ready until 3pm, but encouraged us to use the restaurants, pool, beach. We waited until 2pm, front desk staff stated still not ready, and no king rooms, no ocean view. Our travel agent had requested both. My husband asked to speak to the Manager. She was pleasant, polite, and promptly gave us gorgeous rooms with full ocean views with double beds on the 8th floor.

Room was large, very clean and great! Linens were nice, exactly as pictured. Beautiful marble. Built in hairdryer and big shower with bench. Toilet and shower separate in very small room. Not alot of counter space, but everything very very nice. Large closet with shelves and room for luggage. Desk with little bench, quality rattan furniture. We were on the corner, so we had an extra sitting room with chair and little table and beautiful windows overlooking the ocean. The balcony is great, with marble floors and nice furniture. Our room had sliding doors that opened, that gave you a huge opening, loved it!

I loved the energy consuming features! When you come in, you have to put your room key in a slot in order for the lights to come on. This way, you can't leave your room and leave them all on! Also, when you open the sliding doors, the AC shuts off.

The restaurants were good. Had some problems getting reservations as they only take them from noon until 3pm, and if you were away from the resort, you might have to eat at 10pm! we enjoyed the buffet with lots of different choices. A bit bland, but that is to be expected. Pleasantly suprised, and we are a bit snobby over food! Loved the Mexican restaurant, Italian and Caribbean were good. No coffee machines or bar fridges in the room. Other people had written about not taking food to their room...can take coffee though. Also, a little deli with overpriced chips and chocolate bars.

Bars are great. 2 swim up bars and one near the lobby, plus sports bar. Very generous and friendly.

The beach is amazing. Most other places just have a deck. There are little tiki huts and lots of chairs. Love the towel service. The pools are a little cool, but really nice and clean. The beach area is very nice and comfortable. There is a snack bar, washrooms, beach volleyball, and place to borrow snorkeling equipment. Lots of people snorkeling right in front. The beach area has sand, but when you go to go swimming, its very rocky-- should have worn water shoes. Ocean very clean and beautiful colour. Staff everywhere. "Hot tubs" were more like little pools for kids. Deck is very nice and you can sit right out over the ocean.

Everything is very clean. Maid service was at different times during the day, but very nice. One day, we put out our do not disturb, the maid called us and asked if we wanted towels, or anything else. Very very clean and organized. Left gifts for maid, but she didnt' take it! Had to explain it was for her.

Location is GREAT. We wanted to be close to town. Can't walk, even though some people said that they did. $4 cab ride, well worth it. Can walk across to Ernesto's, rental car and one of the cruise ship piers with everything that they had downtown. Rented a jeep and cruised around island. A bit of traffic noise, but didnt't botther us as the grounds are spectacular--lush and clean.

Timeshare people are everywhere. Just ignore! We decided to go, it took 2 hours, but we got a free jeep for the day and a bottle of Tequila. The jeep turned out to be $60 a day across the street==depends on how much money you want to save. It's really quite remarkable how they do it. We listened over breakfast and then looked at the room and then listened, and then carried on! Ridiculous prices in my opinion.

The view is definitely obstructed by Cruise Ships. The hotel is located right near the Pier. To me, it didn't wreck the view at all, I enjoyed looking at the ships each day. You could also see on both sides of the ship, so not a big deal to us at all.

One thing lacking is the nightlife. THey had a "show" at night that was amateur dancing at best. New Years they had a show that consisted of lots of children, and we didnt' stay for the rest. Definitely a kid-friendly resort, but not alot of partying. No disco or nightlife.

Overall, great value. Loved the location, staff was awesome and always helpful, food was good, very very clean and luxurious!

I have lots of photos, not much different than others on here. Any questions, please ask.

Would go back!

I wouldn't stay in this hotel again! It has some of the rudest staff I have encountered.

The Park Royal is selling off what essentially boils down to time share units. If you fit their profile - Single Female aged 25-55 or Married Couple 25-55 you will be "encouraged" to attend one of their sales pitches. I unfortunately did fit one of the profiles and was hounded about the sales pitch with promises of free snorkelling (it's free anyway), free dive trips, a free spa day... the list went on. I told them I didnt want to go to the sales presentation and was harrassed 10+ times in 5 days to the point where I hated going anywhere near their lobby and would enter and exit the hotel via the dive shop.

The sales people are extremely aggressive (and of course on comission).

The hotel itself is nice. The rooms are nicely decorated. The beach is small. The pool is okay. Food seems to vary depending on what day it is and yes, I'm fairly sure that some of the lunch food was leftovers from the night before.

I didnt go to any of the speciality restaurants so I cant comment on them.

The free wifi service is terrible. Most of the time it is nearly impossible to connect because of what seems like interference. Even worse.... it only works in the lobby (if it works).

If the Park Royal stopped their sales people from being quite so aggressive, it would be a huge improvement but quite honestly that ruined my holiday for me. I did fill in a questionaire at the hotel with this information on it so I have given them the chance to make a change. What irked me most was that when I asked the concierge what day trips they had, I was told that they'd discuss it with me after I did the sales tour.

Other issues:
In most hotels, staff will step aside to let guests get into lifts. In this hotel, they push you aside so that they can get in first. Dont try and get a lift between 10am and 1pm because the cleaning staff are too busy pushing their carts in and out of them.

I know I sound very negative about this place but I have stayed with Park Royal Hotels in other countries and that's not the service I expect.

The hotel was gorgeous and the staff were always very friendly. The pools were beautiful and everything was so clean. There were even boys on the beach picking up sticks and random rocks. The maids took a little long to clean our room, however they made it beautiful. The pools were always freezing cold though and I only really went in them when I was super hot from tanning. The beach is kinda small and the chairs fill up pretty quickly. The pools closed pretty early though. It would have been nice to go for a night swim or even just hang out on the beach at night but they closed it all off at sunset.

The drinks were great, Luis was our favorite bartender. They weren't very strong drinks but it doesn't really matter since they were all inclusive. The sports bar was great.

The food however was not good. The buffet was great for breakfast but lunch and dinner were not good. Lunch was usually made up from the left overs from the night before and most of the time I just ended up eating the salad bar which I guess made me skinnier in the end but no one wants to eat healthy on vacation. We tried the Carribean restaurant and seriously walked out we were so terrified of the menu. The itialian restaurant was okay, but nothing spectacular, our food took atleast an hour to get to us. Could not find one good dessert anywhere! The restuarants other than the buffet also had to have reservations made, in person, which was a pain to wait in line at noon to see if you could get a spot.

Overall the hotel and the staff were incredible. It was a beautiful area and we had a great time. However since we were both only 21, it was hard to find other non-couples our age to hang out with. The only thing I didn't like there was the food, but thats kind of to be expected of an all inclusive place.

We did one day at the Park Royal on one of those sales pitch deals. Normally, we would never take one of those things, but we stayed at the hotel many years ago when it was Sol Caribe. We missed it and wanted to see what it had become. So, they let us spend a day with all of the food and drink we wanted, all activities and possibly the ugliest gift bag that I have ever seen with a blanket, a hammock, some tequila and some coffee liquor.

After checking in with the sales desk we were escorted to breakfast and given ‘the pitch’. Beautiful restaurant, all buffet. Coffee and juice is served to you. Any espresso, cappuccino etc. is available to order. Plenty of anything you would want for breakfast.

We were shown the rooms and they are all beautifully done in light woods and earth tones. All have balconies and ocean views. Of course, we are shown these incredible end units with huge additional balconies and outdoor ‘beds’ for lounging. One nice thing about the end units were that they are configured to allow several standard rooms to sort of create a growing suite of rooms. It would work really nicely for traveling with extended families where you want private space but also some common areas.

The original pool is still there which is really cool. There is an island in the middle with a snack bar and swim up bar. A bridge or two over the water .. just very fun and cool. Out on the beach, there is a great infinity pool with swim up bar, right on the water. There is a small sandy beach and then another infinity pool on the other side of the beach. There is some fun snorkeling off of the beach.

The downside of this hotel is the small beach which is worsened by the cruise ships that dock in front of it. While sitting on the beach at this splendid swim up bar in a huge infinity pool … your view is usually of a massive cruise ship. They pull in every morning and leave after dark.

We would stay at this hotel because it is so nice to look at. The food seemed better than average for an all inclusive. Although the cruise ships in front of the hotel are unfortunate, there are plenty of other beaches on the island to spend time at and the pools at the hotel are exceptional.

My husband and I stayed at the Park Royal the week of Thanksgiving for our honeymoon. Here are the key points:

The rooms and grounds are immaculate, very clean with beautiful lush landscaping. The pool area is lovely and clean. The beach, though small, is kept well groomed. The

The staff is (usually) very friendly, but BEWARE the people in polos they are pretty aggressive with timeshare salespitches. We found ourselves avoiding the lobby area whenever possible to avoid them. Samuel who showed us to our rooms was always pleasant and helpful.

The food was hit or miss. The Terrace restaurant is the buffet and had a terrific breakfast! That said, lunch and dinner were not that great. I would say The Terrace is comparable to cafeteria fare. The mexican restaurant was pretty good and we ended up eating there twice. The Italian restaurant was the biggest disappointment. It might have been what we ordered, but I chose the fish (which was really bland) and my husband chose chicken parmesan. Neither was impressive. The Caribbean style restaurant was closed the whole week. Although we did see some of the polos using it for sales pitches. We recommend eating "off-resort" if you can. There is a little fajita joint across the street called Ernesto's that is great for a quick lunch. Our favorite place to eat in Cozumel was Casa Denis. I had a Chile Relleno the size of my head and it was spectacular.

The resort bars were pretty good. The drinks were nice and strong and the bartenders friendly.

Other notes: The hotel has open air corriders which makes it nice and breezy, but in the mornings, man is it LOUD! Every single day we were awakened by loud housekeeping staff chattering, what sounded like furniture being moved and oher loud bangs. There is no noise dampening measures taken in any of the rooms and most of it came in from under the door. I can understand 1 day of this, but all 5? The other thing to note is that the housekeeping service is very slow compared to what I am used to. We would leave the room at 9 or 10 am and come back at 4 and the room would still need maid service. This wasn't everyday, but I would say 3 out of the 5 days we were there.

In summary, Park Royal was an ok stay. We had a great honeymoon in Mexico, but we didn't spend much time at the resort. Go to the mainland if you get a chance. We made a day trip to Tulum and it was the highlight of our trip. I recommend learning some Spanish before you go. Almost everyone in the tourist areas speak English, but I found that bargaining and customer service improved with a little knowlege of the language. Oh and stay away from Senor Frogs. We went based off of a friends recommendation and were appalled. Go to Casa Denis instead.
