We did one day at the Park Royal on one of those sales pitch deals. Normally, we would never take one of those things, but we stayed at the hotel many years ago when it was Sol Caribe. We missed it and wanted to see what it had become. So, they let us spend a day with all of the food and drink we wanted, all activities and possibly the ugliest gift bag that I have ever seen with a blanket, a hammock, some tequila and some coffee liquor.

After checking in with the sales desk we were escorted to breakfast and given ‘the pitch’. Beautiful restaurant, all buffet. Coffee and juice is served to you. Any espresso, cappuccino etc. is available to order. Plenty of anything you would want for breakfast.

We were shown the rooms and they are all beautifully done in light woods and earth tones. All have balconies and ocean views. Of course, we are shown these incredible end units with huge additional balconies and outdoor ‘beds’ for lounging. One nice thing about the end units were that they are configured to allow several standard rooms to sort of create a growing suite of rooms. It would work really nicely for traveling with extended families where you want private space but also some common areas.

The original pool is still there which is really cool. There is an island in the middle with a snack bar and swim up bar. A bridge or two over the water .. just very fun and cool. Out on the beach, there is a great infinity pool with swim up bar, right on the water. There is a small sandy beach and then another infinity pool on the other side of the beach. There is some fun snorkeling off of the beach.

The downside of this hotel is the small beach which is worsened by the cruise ships that dock in front of it. While sitting on the beach at this splendid swim up bar in a huge infinity pool … your view is usually of a massive cruise ship. They pull in every morning and leave after dark.

We would stay at this hotel because it is so nice to look at. The food seemed better than average for an all inclusive. Although the cruise ships in front of the hotel are unfortunate, there are plenty of other beaches on the island to spend time at and the pools at the hotel are exceptional.

My husband and I stayed at the Park Royal the week of Thanksgiving for our honeymoon. Here are the key points:

The rooms and grounds are immaculate, very clean with beautiful lush landscaping. The pool area is lovely and clean. The beach, though small, is kept well groomed. The

The staff is (usually) very friendly, but BEWARE the people in polos they are pretty aggressive with timeshare salespitches. We found ourselves avoiding the lobby area whenever possible to avoid them. Samuel who showed us to our rooms was always pleasant and helpful.

The food was hit or miss. The Terrace restaurant is the buffet and had a terrific breakfast! That said, lunch and dinner were not that great. I would say The Terrace is comparable to cafeteria fare. The mexican restaurant was pretty good and we ended up eating there twice. The Italian restaurant was the biggest disappointment. It might have been what we ordered, but I chose the fish (which was really bland) and my husband chose chicken parmesan. Neither was impressive. The Caribbean style restaurant was closed the whole week. Although we did see some of the polos using it for sales pitches. We recommend eating "off-resort" if you can. There is a little fajita joint across the street called Ernesto's that is great for a quick lunch. Our favorite place to eat in Cozumel was Casa Denis. I had a Chile Relleno the size of my head and it was spectacular.

The resort bars were pretty good. The drinks were nice and strong and the bartenders friendly.

Other notes: The hotel has open air corriders which makes it nice and breezy, but in the mornings, man is it LOUD! Every single day we were awakened by loud housekeeping staff chattering, what sounded like furniture being moved and oher loud bangs. There is no noise dampening measures taken in any of the rooms and most of it came in from under the door. I can understand 1 day of this, but all 5? The other thing to note is that the housekeeping service is very slow compared to what I am used to. We would leave the room at 9 or 10 am and come back at 4 and the room would still need maid service. This wasn't everyday, but I would say 3 out of the 5 days we were there.

In summary, Park Royal was an ok stay. We had a great honeymoon in Mexico, but we didn't spend much time at the resort. Go to the mainland if you get a chance. We made a day trip to Tulum and it was the highlight of our trip. I recommend learning some Spanish before you go. Almost everyone in the tourist areas speak English, but I found that bargaining and customer service improved with a little knowlege of the language. Oh and stay away from Senor Frogs. We went based off of a friends recommendation and were appalled. Go to Casa Denis instead.

This was an amazing transformation. My wife and I had stayed at the Park Royal a few years ago. It was average, at best. This time, we stayed from Nov 9 to 16, it was remarkable. The location is beautiful, with awesome grouds, maintained as perfect as can be. There are iguanas, peacocks and little lizards, Palm Trees and flowers everywhere. The rooms are very nicely appointed. There are very few rooms with King sized beds, and that was a little disapointing. The showers had plenty of water pressure and hot water.
The food in the restraunts is just what you would expect from an all inclusive. Okay, but nothing to cherish. The alcohol runs very freely, and they don't skimp. The staff is unbelievebly kind. One morning we even saw the cleaning staff cleaning the river rocks from a fountain in a bucket of soapy water. This place was seriously clean.
We are football fans and Carlos was kind enough to open the sports bar for us early on Sunday so we could watch the games. That was typical of the way the staff went out of there way to make things nice.

The Beach: Small area, but functional. If you want real beach time, I suggest Mr. Sancho's beach. Very Nice.

The Bars and pools: 2 swim up bars, one BIG pool, two infinity pools, 2 jacuzzi tubs...all bars served great drinks

Any review prior to 2007 is probably very out-dated. This hotel has been completely refurbished and you will love it.

Just returned from the Park Royal, from what I understand this place was a dump before the hurrican hit and the hotel was refurbed.
The Park Royal is now a upmarket hotel with a feel of luxury, on arrival you are offered a cocktail by the friendly attentive staff. The reception area is on a rather grand scale and check in was very quick.
The room I was in was quite large, it had two double beds, tv with pleanty of English channels, Balcony with views over the pool, good sized bathroom with shower section but no bath, and of course A/C.
The hotel has three swimming pools, two which look over the sea towards Cancun, whilst I was there the hotel was not even half full and getting a sun lounger was not a problem, however the hotel has 328 rooms and 16 suites so when the hotel is full getting a sun loungermaybe a problem.
The food is very good for an all inclusive hotel, there is a buffet restaurant serving breakfast 07.00-10.30, lunch 12.30-15.30 and dinner 18.30 -22.30.
As well as a Mexican and a Italian restaurant both open for dinner 18.30-23.00, both restaurants need to be booked in advance and have dress code. The Italian restaurant does not exept children under 12.
In addition to this there are two snack bars serving burgers, hot dogs, fries, nachos, pizzas etc...
The hotel has five bars and serves international brands of alcohol which is unusual for caribbean hotels.
The location is good, short walk to bars, restaurants and shops.
Now for a couple of negative points, the drinks in the hotel bars are served in plastic glasses, the hotel does not offer room service and food is not allowed the be taken from the restaurants including the buffet.
Last thing is that as this is an all inclusive hotel you are issued a wrist band, if this is lost or damages you will have to pay USD $48 around £20 or so and on your day of departure you have to leave your room at 12.00 and that is when your all inclusive stops.
I recommend this hotel, we booked through First Choice, excellent aircrafts, loads of leg room and every seat has seat back tv's which passes the time on a 10hour flight.
