We arranged our stay with the wyndham 800 number site and were given totally incorrect information but they provided us in the end with a discounted rate to make up for it....

But here is our story which might help one make a better decision:

We started with a Sabor section room that was supposed to be an ocean view front.. but the resort was revamped a few years ago which the wyndham agent was not aware of... go figure.
So we arrived expecting an ocean view 'Adult' only and that part has now been changed to the Aura section. Which i highly recommend if you want a more 5 star experience.

however, for a 3 star experience the Wyndham part has great ocean view bungalows but no room service.. not even water.. so that is a bit of a disappointment. and the Isla buffet is average but fast service with a lot of people.. and the bar is extremely busy and always out of everything except beer and national mexican brand alcohol.. and the burger lunches even out of ketchup and glasses.. so dont expect a 5 star experience.

as far as the restaurants.. we only enjoyed one and that is the Sabor Mosaique which anyone can book in the evening but make sure you book it the day you arrive or email them because it does tend to get super busy. but the service and staff and food was 5 star but they do not change the menu every week as they say to you upon arrival.. and the fish is always Grouper.

Roberto's is by far the worse of them all... service is horrendously slow.. waiting 45 mins for just some wine and bread.. than the risotto taste like old rice pudding that is harder than a rock, the raviolis are just as bad, and the desserts of tiramisu taste like hard custards and no smiles from these overworked staff.

Vista del Mar gets the worst cook ever award... but the staff is quite charming especially Juan.. but the cook should be fired immediately.. we had a lobster and new york steak dinner that was abominable.. he overcooked the lobster to the point of it tasting like plastic.. and the steak was the same.. and this was for our anniversary and a complimentary part of our romantic love package.. oh.. and our fruit basket and champagne.. got turned into 2 beers of dos XX.

So overall our experience is to not recommend any part of the Wyndham except the Aura section that has top notch restaurant, a disco that is open to all on tues and saturdays.. and great high end alcohol and ocean front or view rooms....but the sabor has a nice bar and restaurant but no ocean view.. so unless you like to sit around in a pool getting drunk.. without seeing the ocean.. my advice is to stick to Aura and pay the extra money for a romantic holiday that is a 5 star experience.

I hope that the Wyndham execs can manage to upgrade their services and hire some cooks like at Mosaique or Aura for the rest of the resort and offer Room Service at the ocean front bungalows that have the best views..and hire more staff to serve drinks at the beach instead of waiting in line.

We give this resort the thumbs down and did receive great tips that the Riviera Star, and the Occidental Grand and Allegro are great places with the two best beaches... so good luck and definitely try Dive with Martin for great scuba and i hear Dive Palancar at Aura offers great dives also.. but Martin offers the best deals since all equipment is included.

Good luck and enjoy!!

  • Liked — mosaique restaurant and ocean view bungalow room
  • Disliked — all restaurant food was horrible, lack of staff, lack of product, no room service, cleaning rooms always late at 3pm or later, evening entertainment 2 star if that.. bars offer low quality alcohol, no beach service for any drinks of food...beach is super rocky and requires shoes or fins

Room Accommodations:

1.Check-in time 3:00PM- Did not receive our accommodations until 6:00 PM
2.On July 20, 2008, received a room with 2 double beds, as opposed to the King size room that we booked.
3.A room service menu was not provided, and we were not made aware room service was available.
4.Ordered and was charged for Champagne to be in room upon arrival. Never received Champagne. ($85.00)
5.Television reception was horrible.
6.New room provided on July 21, 2008 –this room was completely engulfed in 1.5 inches of water. We arrived in the room to find over 5 towels laid out on the floor to soak up the water, as well as a towel rolled up on the outside of our door to prevent more water entering.
7.Black mold throughout the bathroom (Pictures provided)
8.Room refrigerator was NEVER stocked with water, sodas, or beer.
9.Our king size bed did not even have fitted sheets! (Pictures provided)
10.Room was in disarray, lamp shades were crooked, and pictures on the wall were molded and warped from humidity. (Pictures Provided)
11.Room service did not pick up the towels that were laid down on the floor (to soak up the water) for over two days.
12.There were several bugs found (and killed by us) in both of the rooms we were assigned. A picture of one of the bugs is included in this letter.

Resort Accommodations:
1.No towels or towel cards provided at check in. When we inquired about the towels, we were given an extremely hard time about obtaining them.
2.ZERO nightlife with in the resort. Mostly due to the horrific service provided by all bars within the resort.
3.Upon arrival, no one indicated to us as to which restaurants required reservations. We went to the “Snack Bar” to wait for our room to be ready and were faced with a 45 + minute wait on a hamburger. Condiments located at the snack bar we not fit for human consumption.
4.July 20, 2008 all patrons of this resort were advised that due to the tropical storm all alcohol consumption was ban and that this was a COZUMEL ISLAND rule. This in fact was not true.
5.Path way from the Sabor section to the main lobby smelled of raw sewage.
6.In requesting new flippers and masks that didn’t fit, the woman at the scuba hut was rude and disrespectful.
7.When returning from the main lobby, not only was the pathway VERY dimly lit, but there were several ant piles that should be taken care of. A picture of one of the ant piles is included in this letter.

Restaurants and Food:

1.Buffet provided was again, not fit for human consumption. Items located within this establishment were both offensive and grotesque.
2.Impossible to get a dinner reservation before 9:00 PM, meanwhile not only the resort was empty, but the restaurants as well.
3.Once we did received reservations at Roberto’s, our experience took 2 hours for Dinner! While a Spanish speaking family came in 40 minutes behind and was served over 30 minutes before us.
4.Roberto’s- the meal was less than palatable. Most dishes were too small to fill a small child while someone next I ordered the same thing and it could feed a small army. There is zero consistency.
5.We choose to eat in Downtown Cozumel due to the fact that service and quality are not present at the resort. While this may not sound like a big deal to most, we went down on a budget and did not plan to spend over $100 a night for dinner. (This total includes Taxi Fare to and from resort)
6.Service in all restaurants was horrible. In order for us to eat breakfast or lunch, it consumed over an hour out of our day due to poor service. Wait staff had no sense of urgency.

Pool and Pool Bar accommodations:

1.One bartender was allotted for the entire pool bar.
2.In order to obtain a drink you would need to get out of the pool and wait in line at the above ground pool. Doesn’t that defeat the purpose of a “POOL BAR”?
3.About once a day the pool bar would run out of beer, it took over an hour and half in order for a new keg to be brought out.
4.In order to obtain a glass to drink your beverage from, the bartender would ask you to go around the pool and pick up the empty glasses. I’M ON VACATION; I DON’T PICK UP OTHERS MESSES.
5.The bar ran out of liquor and would not replenish (in both the pool bar as well as the others).
6.In the beach bar, we observed cups being washed and then distributed out to other patrons. I have attached a picture of this for your review. I would not serve a dog from a cup that was washed in that sink! COMPLETELY UNSANITARY AND UNACCEPTABLE.
7.A single volleyball was provided for an entire pool. With that said the ball was almost flat and the net was pieced together with several pieces of string as if it was made in 1975.
8.When we pointed out to the pool staff that there were crabs in the pool, WE WERE GIVEN A NET TO FISH THEM OUT!

While this was a very unpleasant stay to say the least, we do need to give credit to Ms. Dinora Guzman (Room Division Manager). It is completely evident that this woman is accustomed to dealing with nothing but complaints for the majority of her day; she was completely gracious and made a valiant effort to correct all inconveniences. We have attached the letter in which she sent us. She assured us that she had a special surprise for us that would not only impress us but would make due for all of our inconveniences suffered the day of arrival. Our surprise was flat, dry bottle of white wine and a flooded room.

Like many other reviews, I've traveled to many places in Mexico many times over the past fifteen years. I have stayed in a variety of lodgings and have always found them to be charming and operated with both hospitality and pride. Not so with the Wyndham Cozumel Resort and Spa. Without a question, this is the worst experience that I've ever had....so bad that after two days I left and returned to a wonderful small hotel in Playa Del Carmen. If you read the other reviews, they are consistent with what I experienced. Problems with check-in, rooms that were not ready, keys not available, waiting...waiting...waiting. When finally given a room, the locks did not work and half the bedding was missing. It took me over two hours, four phone calls to the front desk, and finally walking my luggage over a quarter mile back to the reception area to get anyone to pay attention to me. I was continuously told they were too busy and they would get back to me. Yet when I appeared at the reception desk there were no lines, only two front desk receptionists having a conversation with one another. I was finally given another room at 6:00p.m. On the surface of it, the room was OK, but in staying there a few minutes we discovered that the toilet backed up and there was mold on the shower tiles and bathroom walls. Having just gone through a major ordeal to get the room changed we decided to overlook the plumbing and mold and just make the best of the situation. We were located off the children's pool. In that pool the water was consistently murky and the "swim out bar" offered only refreshments appropriate for kids. The main pool was cleaner, but had a slippery bottom at the shallow entrance and several people slipped. When near the filters there was a horrible fishy smell, making one wonder how clean the water really was. In two days we made 5 trips to the place designated for pool towels. We were always told to come back later. We NEVER managed to come up with towels, even when we sat right next to the location and waited for the towels to arrive. The all inclusive??? Well, as others have stated, the food was barely ok and it was common to find that they ran out of food. Lines were always long, options limited and service was terrible. I am not one who expects to be pampered and am generally patient. But it was very frustrating when it took over 45 minutes to be acknowledged by wait staff AND over 30 minutes to get a cup of coffee after that. One morning, I observed a young waiter sweating so badly while pouring my cup of coffee that the drops of sweat fell off his chin and into my breakfast. No surprise that I stopped eating and left. I know that resorts are not perfect and there is always something to work on or improve. I can overlook a great deal. But the final straw convincing me to leave early was that the staff did not seem to care about the guests or their vacation experience. The maids walked by plates of leftover food that were sitting outside our door, left by neighbors. These plates were there when we arrived and were still there two days later when we checked out. I am sure the insects enjoyed the feast...but the smell and appearance was disgusting. Add to that the fact that someone left several beer cans in the bushes outside our room. We watched the gardeners work around them and never pick them up. All of this sounds to bad to be true, however I took pictures to send to the booking agency. No one seemed to take ownership or pride in their work. When we tried to proactively bring up some of these issues with management we were always told they were sorry, but very, very busy. Sadly, this place is horribly mismanaged and not worth the dollar or time. I know that Wyndham just recently affiliated with this resort and was willing to go there because I am a member of Wyndham Vacation Club and have always had good experiences. But the Wyndham organization should be ashamed to have their corporate name associated with this place! Oh, one last thing....be careful when you give them your money. I was told that my bank account would be credited for the amount of all inclusive fees we did not use. I even have a signed statement and a follow-up e-mail from the front desk supervisor stating such. It has been a month since I left the Wyndham Cozumel Resort and have yet to see the credit appear on my card. So, even a month after this horrible experience, I am still dealing with the nightmare and their horrible management. BEWARE! Better yet, DON"T GO!

We stayed at the Wyndham from July 18-21, 2008. We had a great time even though tropical storm Dolly arrived. We checked in and was able to eat lunch there and spend some time on the beach before our rooms were ready. I have to say we will definitely be back. The front desk, customer service, wait staff and all of the employees at the Wyndham were friendly and very helpful. They work very hard to make everyone's stay an enjoyable one. Bernardo was our waiter and he was great but they all were working hard. The beach is beautiful and has great snorkeling. Just bring your water shoes as there are some rocks. One of our safes in the room was not working and they installed another one. The food was good. It is neat to try some of their different dishes. If you come with the attitude to have fun and enjoy yourself, you definitely will. We love the Wyndham, Cozumel, and Mexico. It is very enjoyable to visit and learn about their culture. We stayed at the Wyndham last year also and had an awesome time. We are already planning another trip back and will be staying at the Wyndham. Thank you to the employees there that made our stay so much fun.

I have read reviews from other resorts and have had good and bad reviews. Usually the good out weighs the bad, but this time it did not ring true. The beach at this place is real nice . The place, in general, is not bad. Outdated, some musty places, but it could be tolerated. I have been to Cozumel, Cancun, Playa Del Carmen, Rivera Mya and some of the other Carribean Islands. This has to be the worst we have been to. The service was bad, real bad. The rooms took all day to get around to and even when they were cleaned they were still dirty. We had our grandchildren with us and the first hand prints on the doors from the Saturday we arrived were still there, along with the rest of the weeks handprints the day we left.
NO FRIGE IN THE ROOM!!! This was a first! We have always had a frige in the room with water, beer and some of the resorts, other stuff. You had to buy bottled water and it was not cheap.
I would not return to this place. We had confirmed reservations to one of the resturants for the party of 8. When we got there the big kahuna said we were not listed. I told him that was his problem not mine. He would not seat us. We did go to management and they did take care of it, but we would not go back to that one for the rest of the week. Afraid of what "extra" would be in the food!!
Again, this is not a place I would ever spend my hard earned money again. If you go to Cozumel, try the Cozumel Palace. It was very nice.
