Below is the email I sent to the Wyndham Corporate offices regarding our stay at the Sabor in June 08. I never heard a word from them. On the upside, I also cc'd FunJet, the company we booked our trip through and they emailed me almost immediately, FunJet did look into the situation and The Wyndham did respond to us through FunJet and said they had put in new procedures so that these issues would be resolved. I do have to give kudos to FunJet for their great customer service. I will definately use their services again. On the other hand, I will never stay at another Wyndham again.
Here is my emailed coorespondance. I will aso attach pictures.
Dear Wyndham Hotels:
It is with mixed feelings that I write the Wyndham today. First may I say that I have always had a favorable view of your hotels and that is why we booked our vacation at your Cozumel Sabor resort.
My husband and I made a trip down to your resort for 4 days starting on June 15th, 2008. We were so excited to go on this trip and talked another couple into coming with us. We had great experience last year when visiting the RIU Caribe and assumed that since this resort was rated higher, it would even be better. May I say our experience at the Sabor was not comparable in any way.
Let’s start with the room. I have attached pictures for your review. The room was so humid (even with the air conditioner running) that we literally had to lay out our passports once we got home so that they would dry out. There was mold growing on the lamp shade and pictures in the room, and the front of the dresser drawer was falling off of the dresser. Lastly, the beds did not even have bed spreads, only sheets and blankets. I also noticed that our bathrooms were not stocked with some of the everyday staples such as washcloths and conditioner.
As far as the restaurants – thank goodness we were able to get reservations at Roberto’s, Mosaique, and Vista Del Mar. We ate one evening at La Isla and the food was awful. I was unsure what half of the food was. There was no service at all. I had to actually walk around to find someone who would pour us water. I saw that there were some wine but could not get anyone to bring me a glass.
As far as the Mosaique – when we first got to the resort, we went there for lunch. We were given menus with several things on it but we were informed that only three entrees were available. We went the next day for breakfast and left because we could not get served. I will say that we did also go for dinner on that Monday night and I was more impressed with the service that evening so I thought things might be turning around. We did eat breakfast there on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday morning and the service and food were good.
On Tuesday, we had reservations at Roberto’s at 8:15 PM. We and several other groups were made to sit outside on the steps for 45 minutes before being seated. When looking in the windows, there were several open tables which made me come to the conclusion that they were short staffed. By the time we ordered, several menu items were no longer available. Also, several things we served were not as described on the menu. For example, I ordered tomatoes, basil and mozzarella cheese. I don’t know what the cheese was, but it was not mozzarella. Of course, by the end of the meal, most of the dessert choices were no longer available.
On Wednesday, we ate dinner at the Vista Del Mar, which was half way decent. I have no complaints with this restaurant. The food and service were good. Again – the restaurant was not very full. The reason I mention this is because I talked to several people staying at the Sabor and Wyndham Resort and Spa and they were unable to get reservations at any of the restaurants, except the Mosaique. I am not sure why since none the facilities were at half capacity at any time.
Now for the bars – this was supposed to be all-inclusive – including drinks, right? The bars were not stocked and in many instances, we were not able to get the drinks we requested. For example, my husband wanted sour mash whiskey (like Jack Daniels) and coke, which is not a very uncommon drink. On several occasions, he was told they did not have this and offered him scotch instead – please! I was told by one of the bartenders that this is not how it always was – he said two months ago, I would never have to tell you no. He said he did not know when they would get more supplies in. I spoke to one woman who was told they did not even have diet coke available when she ordered it. This is totally unacceptable.
At the main bar at the Wyndham Resort and Spa, it was even worse. About the only thing you could get there was a beer (if you were lucky) and you haad a ½ hour to stand in line for it. To top that off, a whole cruise ship of people came in on Tuesday and made it impossible to even get a drink or something to eat. Thank goodness we were staying at the Sabor so we could escape all the people. I felt sorry for the people stuck at the Wyndham Resort and Spa.
I will say that I observed the staff, and they were working very hard. I don’t believe the issues lie with them. The resort is so poorly staffed that they are constantly on the go. Their lack of customer service is not surprising. I know that if I was working that hard and all I heard were complaints, I would become less than accommodating and friendly.
Lastly, we were confronted on several occasions by people trying to get us to look at condos at your facility. I did not come on vacation to be sold to and quite frankly after my experience there, I would never consider buying or renting a condo there.
You have a real problem with this resort and it is greatly tarnishing the reputation of your organization. Some people spend years saving for a vacation like this. I know we had to save for quite a while to afford this. What a disappointment!
