Myself, Husband, 3 year old son, 2 cousins and cousins 5 year old daughter all just got back from a 4 day stay July 4-7 at the Wyndham. I will start from the beginning.
Check-in was pretty smooth, our rooms were not ready and we were told to come back in about 30 minutes, we were early being 2:00 so we went to the buffet to grab a bite to eat and then went to check back and get our rooms. They were ready. We booked the Oceanfront rooms and definitely were not disappointed with these! We walked right off the balcony to sand and then right to water, I definitely recommend upgrading and spending the little extra, it will be well worth your trip. Our room was clean, we never had any issues with the room. Water pressure and temperature of the water was fine unlike some of the reviews I had read. Everything worked fine and believe me the air worked great! Our room would be like an ice box when we would come in from swimming and also the room had a fan which was nice. Another nice thing was the toiletries were bath and body works, no big deal but a nice touch.
Now onto the food. IF you are bringing children, be prepared that they do not have much for them to eat. The snack bar has limited hours and if you are out and about you will miss them being open, same goes for the kids bar with milk shakes and smoothies and even if they are at the bar they never seem to have what they need to go ahead and make you what you want, The kids had to wait numerous times for things and then when the bar finally opened they would be swarmed cause of all the kids waiting. The buffet had awesome grilled chicken and steak (fajita type) with all the fixins', This definitely was good because we got our son to eat it and he just doesn't eat meat like that. However not much choice on the buffet for kids. Very tough to satisfy them. On our last night we went to Robertos. We made reservations as soon as we arrived to the hotel. Robertos was all we could get reservations for ( we were told all others were booked, as in other reviews we read). Robertos had great food, so much to choose from on the menu we ordered multiple entrees! They kinda looked at us like we hadnt eaten in weeks but gladly brought them to us. The food was marvelous. We got dessert , not so great. None of us even could finish that except for the ice cream the kids got. But all in all that was well worth it, it was great. Keep in mind even though the resort is all inclusive, if you want steak or lobster, you must pay for it at Robertos and from what I understand at the other restaraunts as well.
The hotel does not have a swim up bar, nor wait staff to bring your drinks, so each time you want a drink you must get out, wait in line and get your drink. That was a downside but not a vacation killer since we did have kids with us, we didn't drink a whole lot. The drinks were good and not good, depended who made them. Sometimes you couldn't even taste any alcohol.
The pools were nice and not ever super crowded, we even swam in the family pool for about 2 hours one day just us 6. That was really nice. But that pool never did really get crowded.
The ocean is rocky as stated by everyone else. We went to walmart and bought some cheap shoes to wear in the ocean which worked great. There were some really pretty fish right on the beach of the hotel but it definitely would be difficult to walk out without shoes. The water is gorgeous and the hotel has snorkel gear you can check out and use and also they have the hobie boats you can ride out and all of that is included.
All in all we had a great time. The hotel had some aspects that we have not been used to from other all inclusive reports. Some of the staff is on top of things and other could care less if you have a drink or not. But for the price and the length of the stay we had a great time. Oh also from driving into town and passing other hotels, it looked as if the Wyndham had the greatest beach of all the hotels. I could go on and on but I hope this helps.
