I haven't seen many reviews taking about the kids aspect of the resort, so here we go. We stayed for a week in April with our 3 year old and had a great time. The main activity pool has a volleyball net on one side for adults and teens to play and swim. On the other end it is a zero entry (like the beach) , so it is great for toddlers to play without being intimidating. There is also a great kids pool that is only 2.7 ' deep with a swim up smoothie bar (parents can get beer & drinks. too). The Bartender (Edwardo) there is great , and will make the kids smoothies, chocolate milk, soft drinks, etc. the also have popcorn and boxes of cereal for snacks. They have a kids club that looks nice, but our son turned into Nemo and would rather stay in the pool than check it out.
The food at the buffet was good and had a large variety, so we always found something for everyone. There is also a snack bar that is open from 11- 5? and has burgers, hot dogs, bbq.chicken, fries, nachos, etc.
The only problem we had with the resort at all was the room the put us in at first (1823) was noisy at night, but they were happy to move us the next day. They even took our luggage from the first room and moved it to the new room while we played at the pool.
I see a lot of complaints written about this place, but we didn't experience any. All I can say is to remember it is a 3 star, not a 5 Star resort. Overall we dad a great time and would go back.

We stayed at the Wyndham from March 24th-31st. There were five of us, and we paid for two oceanfront rooms, which are some of the most expensive on the resort. Now you would think one of the rooms would have two beds. Instead, they gave five of us two rooms with one king bed in each. The only solution they offered was a roll-away cot that was extremely uncomfortable. We asked for another room with two normal beds and were told that they were all booked. This is something that should have been taken care of when the trip was booked.

Overall, the hotel was okay. It was decorated very nicely and was pretty clean. The housekeeping staff was great and most of the employees seemed to enjoy their jobs. However, the service at the restaurants was awful. At the a la carte reservation restaurants, it took on average two hours to receive and finish your meal. The food was much better at these a la carte restaurants, but you have limited times to eat at them or have to be an "exlusive club member" to even walk in them. The main buffet restaurant was terrible; bad food, bad service, and you often had to wait in line 15-20 minutes just to get a table. Towards the end of our trip, we would simply walk in the restaurant, fill up a couple of plates of food, and take it back to our hotel. For lunch, nearly all of the resort has to rely on two cooks with one grill. They served the same lunch menu day in and day out which included burgers, nachos, and beans. We constantly had to wait for silverware and plates. At most of the basic bars, the drinks were awful and the glasses were dirty.

The entertainment at the hotel was limited. There are some provided non motorized watersports. My suggestion would be to bring your own snorkel gear and swim out about 50 yards from the beach. You can find plenty of fish just right in front of the hotel. The beach was very rocky and small. It was a dangerous adventure walking from the beach to the water, as there were numerous sharp rocks in the shallow water. One thing I did like was that there were no annoying beach vendors trying to sell you jewelry or t-shirts.

The nightly entertainment was very disappointing and extremely boring to watch. The resort does have a basketball court, tennis court, and a small workout gym. However, there really wasn't a whole lot to do outside of laying by the pool or on the beach.

One side of the resort smelled extremely rotten. Unsure why. My suggestion would either be to stay at the adults on section called "Sabor" where you have your own quiet pool, bar, and a decent but slow restaurant. It is a ways from the ocean though.

Great hotel our room was clean and very nice.Out our patio you could walk into the beauitful pool and meander over to the bar all inclusive stay room service all included. Staff was great and wi-fi internet was available at our room. We scuba dove everyday and did it through our package the dive shop which was ok if your an everyday diver. We are more advanced and would had perfered to dive with another company next time. The staff at the dive shop was great and they took care of your gear after each dive and cleaned it for you too. I would stay at this place again. One word of warning do not sign up in the airport for any dive trips or sight seeing tour because they will give them to you free or low cost but it comes with a very high pressure timesharing visit. Pay for any excursion trip away from the airport it is much cheaper!!!!

Three couples from different parts of the US stayed at the Sabor from April 12-19, 2008. Check-in was reasonably short but even though Expedia allows you to make room requests, this information was not in the Wyndham system. Eventually we all were at least housed in the same building, which was what the original request was for. If we had it to do over, we probably would have booked a lower floor room where the pool was right outside your room. All amenities at the Sabor were convenient. We came to sun, swim, eat and drink. We were able to do all of that in an area of 100 ft. diameter. Buffet eating was in the main Wyndham area where most of our meals were eaten. We all felt that the variety was good; quality was good and obviously quantity was never ending. The bars were conveniently located and if one ever felt short-changed on the alcohol in a particular drink, a simple request to add more was all that was needed. Whether it was a staffing issue or an equipment issue, we were disappointed that no drinks were served from the swim-up bar. If one wanted to sit in the water at the swim-up bar to enjoy a drink, they would have to get out of the pool, order the drink from the other side and then get back in. Not a real big deal but it would have been more enjoyable if the bar had been open. The Cacao Lounge/Bar near the Mosaique Restaurant had a bartender named Christian who by far was our favorite and one of the best bartenders there.

The beach area at the resort was not as good as we would have liked but we adjusted by staying at the pool most of the time. We ventured out one day and accidentally found a spectacular beach and some authentic local food with reasonable prices and a panoramic ocean front view. It was called Señor Iguana’s and was located on the SE part of the island.

There were a couple of gripes at the resort but too minor to mention. Basically, if you go into your vacation with an elitist attitude and want it perfect, you will be disappointed at the Sabor or anywhere else. We expected to have a good time with the adequate food & drink, friendly & helpful staff and clean rooms. We got all of that and more. Is it a 5-star? Probably not, but people who rate this place very low are probably never happy about many things whether it’s vacations, work or life in general.

  • Liked — The convenience of the pool, room, restaurant and bars.
  • Disliked — The beach area.

My wife and I just returned from a week at the Sabor and we had a wonderful, relaxing vacation. After reading all the positive and negative reviews I really didn't know what to expect, but I can tell you from our experiences the negative reviews are simply undeserved.

The Sabor is part of the Wyndham Resort & Spa, but is completely separated from the other parts of the resort. It has its own pool w/ swim-up bar, restaurant (Mosaique), outdoor lounge, management and concierge service. No children under 18 are allowed in this section of the resort, which helps to create a quieter and relaxed environment. You pay a little extra to get a room in this section of the resort, but it is worth every penny (or peso).

The grounds are beatifully landscaped. The buildings and rooms are clean and kept in excellent condition. The pool & pool area is very nice, which was great because that is where we spent a majority of our time. The resort management and employees were extremely friendly & professional.

The rooms are large and tastefully decorated. All rooms have either large balconies or terraces with hammocks facing the pool. The bathrooms were nice with plenty of water pressure and hot water... only once did we not have hot water and that was later in the day. Housekeeping did a good job of keeping our room clean and refreshed every day. Once they didn't have our room cleaned when we left for dinner at 6PM, so we asked mgmt about it.... it was clean by the time we returned about 2 hours later. Our room refridgerator was stocked daily with water (2 bottles), sodas (6 cans) and beer (2 cans). We were always able to get water or other drinks at the poolside bar without any waiting so I really don't understand all the negative reviews about not having water or having to wait to get drinks.

Some previous reviews complained about a sewage smell in parts of the resort. The only place we experience this was along the walkway near the main lobby of the resort.... but never in the Sabor section of the resort. The smell is noticeable, but not strong enough to make you loose your appetite or sick. Just a minor annoyance when walking to the rest of the resort.

The Mosaique restaurant was excellent and we ate all of our breakfasts, lunches and most of our dinners there. The grouper with garlic & thyme is not to be missed... the best grouper that I have ever had. The servers were extremely friendly and responsive. I don't remember my water or wine glass every becoming empty.

We did eat dinner at the other restaurants (Roberto's & Vista del Mar) at the resort. The food was good, not great and the service tended to be slower - another reason to spend the extra money for the Sabor section. We avoided the buffet as we were never in a hurry to eat. We didn't have any problems getting reservations at any of the restaurants - you just have to plan a day or two in advance.

I have read some reviews where people were complaining about food portions being small. I did not find this the case - on the contrary I would say the portions were about perfect. If I was really hungry, I had an appetizer, entree and dessert and was completely satisfied. I am 5'8" & 170 lbs and am very active for a reference point. It was actually kind of nice coming back from vacation and not feeling like I need to go on a diet.

The spa is very nice and luxurious... my wife and I both had massages and she also had a pedicure. This was my first ever professional massage so I have nothing to compare it to. But it was very relaxing... except for the parts where she was working on a tight muscle or two. The prices were reasonable... $75 for a 30 minute couples' massage and they run daily specials.

There were resort personnel in the lobby trying to sign people up for a timeshare presentation, but they weren't pushy at all. We decided to go through the presentation... eventually deciding that it wasn't for us....no high pressure sales pitch, just presenting what they offered & the benefits.

Towards the end of our stay I managed to injur my foot pretty bad, requiring stitches. The paramedic & doctor at the resort took excellent care of me and my wound... stitching it up right there in the first aid office. The paramedic changed the bandages daily and management was checking on me continually to see if I was comfortable and needed anything. I don't think I would have received better care at home.

Overall, we had a fabulous time here and will likely stay here again if and when we return to Cozumel.
