We stayed in the general (not Sabor) section of the resort.

Rooms: The rooms are a low-three-stars. Adequate, but not luxurious. Except for the Bliss Spa shampoo and lotion in the bathroom. The beds were as hard as rocks. Housekeeping always came in the afternoon...around 3pm. They did a nice job cleaning the rooms. Towels were replaced as needed. Sheets were changed every three days to preserve water and save the environment from soap.

Food: The Main Buffet area was open from 6-11am for breakfast, 12:30-4:30pm for lunch and 6-10pm for dinner. Variety wasn't that great, but quality was generally good, especially with the fresh fruits and veggies. Lunch and dinner always included a salad bar, fruit bar, bread bar, dessert bar, pasta bar, carved meat station, and a half-dozen Mexican dishes. From 11am-6pm, a snack bar featured hamburgers, hotdogs, nachos, pasta, fries, bbq chicken, salad, and rice. Most people ate lunch at the snack bar.

For dinner, you could also make reservations at the three specialty restaurants, which I would recommend. The food served at Robertos (steak) and Mosaique (Asian Fusion) were four star. The food at Vista Del Mar ("International") was about 3 star.

Drinks: The main section of the resort had one bar, where there was always a line. Drinks were not that strong, but plentiful. A second bar opened at night, where drinks were a big better. This bar got crowded after 10.

Spa: The spa staff was very attentive, and we enjoyed our spa treatments.

Pool: The adult pool area was clean. Get up early to get a lounger by the pool.

Children: A large children's pool, with a smoothie bar, kept the kids away from the adult pool. There is a playground and playroom with a bunch of toys for the young ones.

Beach: The beach was a disaster, thin and rough. There had been much erosion, exposing sharp rocks in and near the water. Bags of sand were used as the "beach" sand.

Service: All guest-facing employees were very proficient in English. The service in the restaurants ranged from average to very good. The service at the bars was average. The Guest Service Desk was very helpful and accommodating. The front desk was proficient.

Tours: You could book just about any type of tour from the hotel. Avoid tour providers at the airport.

  • Liked — Low pressure vacation with above average food and spa.
  • Disliked — Beach erosion.

Based on Tripadvisor reviews, we spent the little bit extra for Sabor. What GREAT advice! The main resort is loud and crowded. Sabor is fairly quiet (no children), the rooms are spacious and there's a good restaurant for breakfast and lunch just for Sabor guests. Sabor was apparently fully booked while we were there, but never felt crowded.

As others have noted, it is best to avoid the buffet -- make dinner reservations ASAP. The main resort's guest services desk handles reservations for all resort restaurants. Mosaique had the best food & service although it lacks ambience on a relative scale.

There are four buildings at Sabor. The first floor rooms all open out to shallow pools, some of which have water slides. With one exception, there is open access to the slides, so if you stay on the first floor, expect company. Note that there are no elevators if you want to avoid the first floor.

Bring bug spray & sturdy beach shoes (beach entry is very rocky). If you want a chair on the beach or at the pool, be sure to get there early.

It seems pretty clear that there are some administrative issues that are being worked out after the ownership change. Patience during check-in and at meals may be required.

My wife, adult son, and I just returned from a week stay at the Wyndham Coz Resort. What a wonderful week it was!!!!!!!! I cannot think of a single complaint. The grounds, rooms, food, and (especially) the staff exceeded our expectations. You may have to wait in line for a drink at times. But, what's the hurry??? You're on the beach in paradise. We found the wait staff to be very prompt and always with a smile. By far though, I was most impressed with the staff of Sand Dollar Sports. A very helpful, competent, courtious crew!!! Their diving and snorkling trips are top knotch. Thank you Wyndham / Sand Dollar staff for a wonderful time. We will see you all again soon!!!!!!!!

My husband and I stayed at the Sabor section of the Wyndham 2/27-2/29 before traveling to Playa del Carmen for the week. This was our first experience at an all inclusive so we had no expectations going in. Check-in took about 30 minutes as there were two couples ahead of us. We booked a Terrace Room with a slide down to the main pool which was totally worth the extra money. While the room was nice overall, there was a moldy smell and whoever stayed in the room before us got sick in the bathroom and housekeeping failed to wipe everything off the walls- pretty disgusting. I was also a bit turned off when I was told that we would have a mini fridge stocked daily with beer however this equated to two cans of Sol. Part of the appeal of having the Terrace Room is to relax on your hammock and take a dip in the pool when you want. It would have been nice to have enjoyed the perks of our room with more than one drink each. We even asked (and tipped) the concierge upon arrival for more Sol since we had none in our fridge however no one came to our room the entire day. It wasn’t a big deal but I still expected better service and to have our requests accommodated. We were unable to get dinner reservations the first night so we ended up going to the buffet. I thought the service was poor and the food inedible. We booked dinner at Mosaique the second night and the food was delicious and the waitstaff very attentive. We ate breakfast and lunch there as well and never had a bad meal. I would highly recommend Mosaique and wish we had time to check out some of the other restaurants at the resort. The beach was nice and there were beautiful sunsets. The only drawback would be the sharp pieces of coral in the sand. I stepped on a piece by accident and got a pretty bad cut on my foot. You just need to be extra vigilant when walking barefoot. Overall we enjoyed the experience but I don’t think we would return to the Wyndham.

  • Liked — terrace pools with waterslides and food at Mosaique
  • Disliked — main resort area and the buffet

First, this was our second trip to Cozumel. We have been to Mexico several times and other Carribean islands. We have always done "all inclusives". This was a fairly expensive hotel and for the money..... I know you can do better.

Where to start..... first you should know that this hotel has areas that are for "members only". There are pools and things in these areas that you can't use unless you join. I wish I had known this prior to booking.

Ok, if I remember right they advertise a "swim up bar". It should be noted this is located in the "children's area" and it does not serve alcohol. Just non alcoholic beverages. This may be great information for many of you. There is one bar open during the day and daily ,there was a "single-file-line" waiting for drinks. Now one day, we did tip a waiter who repeatedly came by our table and brought us drinks from this bar. During the evening there is a lobby bar open. Again, only one bartender there.

Restraunts... there is one buffet open for breakfast, lunch, dinner and late night snacks (I believe until 1AM). Three restraunts that require reservations we were able to dine at two of them and the food was typical of all inclusives of this calibur. Let me say though that the Service was so laughably slow that several patrons were getting up to get there own drinks and looking around at each other in amazment.

This place is nice. Nothing special and I know if you are not a "member" and don't wish to be a "member" that there are much nicer places to stay with MUCH better service. Staff was always nice. The service was just poor. I have to think they are just understaffed.

Oh, yeah. Two pools for non members, an Activity pool, that is busy all day and a children's area pool. The ocean.....there are nicer ocean front beaches in Cozumel.

If this is your first trip to Cozumel or your first all inclusive it is a nice place. If you have stayed at Palace resorts, the Melia or Riu this probably isn't the place for you. Unless you want to join their VIP club and stay in the Sabor portion of the resort which is very nice.

  • Liked — wasn't dirty and the food could have been worse, there could have been no beach at all
  • Disliked — Slow service
