My Daughter and I were guests at the Iberostar Cozumel 3/17- 3/24. I agree the resort property is very nice, the greenery, pathways and wildlife were alot of fun to watch. The Star friends were great ! The pool was nice and the views of the sunset were awesome, it was the highlight of my trip! I did snorkel from the pier and enjoyed that as well, lots to see.
I borrowed rubber shoes from the towel hut for the water, works fine if you don't own any, save the money and borrow . I also used a pair of the resorts goggles,as all I had was a snorkel..and be ready to pay the $2.00 per person every day you go into the water! Even if you want to take out a kayac, which I thought was unfair, it is considered complimentary with the room, right? So for the folks who have your own snorkel equiptment, you could probably walk right in to the water do your thing and leave, but for those needing to borrow they get your money then and give you the 1 day wristband.
The buffets were o.k. Could have used more variety, and less flies and birds, I saw one (bird ) land on the cookies one day and it grossed me out...( loved them little cookies)
We did take a cab to town to see what was all there...if you get a coupon from the desk where you make your dinner reservations you can get your $17.00 cab fare turned into food bucks at Senior Frogs or Carlos and Charlies. So we walked and didn't really like the shopping, the store owners are too agressive for us, I have trouble ignoring people and you really have to or you'll never get away! Carlos and Charlies was wild, if you get into the whole 'teenagers gone wild' drunkin' spring break scene you'll love it! They will serve anyone, as they tried to give my 15 yr. old booze..sorry, just for Mom :) the one drink ate up my $17.00 coupon by the way, so bring lots of money if you go there, it's expensive! I'm glad I went but wouldn't miss it if I never went back sort of place...like, I left the resort why?
We did lose the electric as was already mentioned, as well as the water for 2 other days...No warnings, No apologies..No excuses..just a shrug and a " I dunno". The bathrooms were very poorly maintained during those times and they didn't provide water to wash...it was really unsanitary. I understand enexpected problems can arrise but feel the resort did very little to ease the inconvieniences. The food at the buffet during these times was also a bit of a gamble...I chose wisely as foods could not be kept at safe temps...pretty much stuck to cheese pizza to avoid illness.
I was well aware of the sewage stench you've probably read about..it is all around the Spa, Theatre and Lobby areas. My room was by the pool luckily, and only smelt musty, which I guess is the norm for humid places, I would suggest housekeeping use a disinfectant spray to freshen it up a tad, I wished I had my Lysol.
You would be well advised to bring lots of meds, from tummy remedies to skin rashes, I needed both. I had a wierd red itchy rash on my ankle that spread a bit, had white blotches as well, was not fun, don't know what from, I wasn't really in contact with anything. So bring your own as the gift shop will get you good !
Oh, and lastly, there are 2 computers in the lobby to send E mails home as phoning is too expensive!! Cost of $2.00 for 15 minutes. My teen was forever begging to go on...we read if was free sometimes after 10p.m. but that was a myth , nothing is free!
Don't forget to stop by the spa for a hot tub soak, they take appointments but the sheet is empty, so enjoy it, you get a private room outdoors, very cool!
To sum it up I would not go back to this resort, for the stuff I did like I'm sure I could find it at other resorts without the problems..I am still put out that we had to fly all the way back home to take a shower as the water was off the day we left and we had to wash up with 2 dixie cups of wated from the Spa bubbler..Ah, refreshing..
For those of you already booked, cross your fingers and hope for the best , I tried to be positve during this vacation but was ultimately defeated.

Just returned from a week at the Iberostar Cozumel. The resort setting is very nice-loved all the creatures walking around. The service workers are very hard working and try to make sure you have a good time. However, they have severe infra-structure problems. 2nd day we had no electricity. This was a planned outage and they handled pretty well. However, both Fri and Sat there was no water-which meant no a/c and no toilet flushing. They did not explain what was going on or let us know when they estimated it would be fixed and there were no apologies. The 2nd day when we were without water for about 10 hours they could have made arrangements to have water available and buckets so you could flush your toilets occasionally at least. Because of the lack of water I was unable to get my massage-always a highlight of any vacation. I ate at the Mexican Restaurant one of the days we had no water most of the day and got food poisoning and was up all night being sick. I think the lack of water to wash their hands was probably a factor. If you do go, a couple of hints-bring hooks for over the door-the bathroom has only one hook for towels-the towel bar is low and only for your hand towels. Also bring air freshener or candles for the musty smell in the rooms and finally try to get a room near the pool, not the lobby. I think the complaint about odor comes from an on-site sewage treatment plant! Several folks I talked to who come every year to this resort-some were on their 5th or 6th time-said they will go elsewhere next year.

Stayed at the Iberostar March 15-22. There was 4 of us in our group. ALL 4 got sick with vomiting and diarrhea. We did not drink the water, only bottled water. Got there on thursday morning, got sick friday evening, husband got sick on saturday morning, father-in-law on sunday and mother-in-law on tuesday, Staff said they had not heard of anyone else being sick but the buffet and the theatre were almost empty on sunday night.
Saturday the water was turned off for 3 hours, tuesday the power to the whole resort was off for 4 hours. If you have not booked this resort yet, you may want to look at other options. If you have booked this resort, I hope you have better luck than we did.

My wife and I spent March 3-March 17 at the Iberostar Cozumel. It is a beautiful resort both day and night with a lot of lush foliage making its way back onto the grounds amidst a few relics of the terrible hurricanes of a couple of years ago. It was great seeing all of the iguanas and peacocks wandering around the grounds all of the time and the flamingos were neat to see (although their noise at times we could do without). After two weeks here, the buffet got real boring. I think they should try to do more theme nights like we've experienced at other resorts. The steak house we found to be quite good, but were very disappointed with the food at the Mexican restaurant. The following day after eating there was the one day I got the [----]. This is a great resort if you like to snorkel or dive
as they seem to have a real professional staff in the dive building. The pool area was real nice with an activity pool on one side of the swim-up bar and a relaxing pool on the other side for those who just want to chill or have a conversation with other guests. The other guests that we met there were all fantastic. We really enjoyed the company of all of the Canadians, other Wisconsinites and even the few
Bears fans we met there. I'd just like to give a shout-out to Kevin and Cindy (the dreaded Bears fans), Scott and Shannon, Joe and Leah (Burning), Doug and Stephanie (grlrocker--see earlier review) and all of the other friends that we shared time with. The bar, wait and entertainment staff were all very good. Everyone in the resort was very friendly, professional and hard-working. We'd like to give special props to our bartender extraordinare--Juan. He's a sweet guy with blinged-out front teeth. The entertainment staff we feel was hired more for the evening entertainment than the daily activites. Several of them were BRAND NEW and were whiter than we were. Ismael, Chewy, Alex, Leo and Josue were all great people but some lacked in their athletic pursuits somewhat. One warning about playing beach volleyball. Play at your own risk as there are several areas on the court where there are concrete/stone slabs under minimal sand and there were plenty of shredded knees and feet and some bloodshed due to this situation. As has been mentioned, town is a costly $17 +tip each way from the resort (a bit less if you can get a group together). This can make you think twice about venturing into town more than once or twice. We enjoyed our stay and would return here again if we were to return to Cozumel, but we would only stay a week next time unless we decided to snorkel more or learned how to scuba. Thanks again to our fellow travelers who helped make our stay here so enjoyable!!!---Dan and Debi

Hi I just returned home from staying here , Mar. 11 till the 18.
Over all it was pretty good. But improvement is greatly needed!!
first off... after traveling all day from another location..
our rooms weren't ready till 6 pm. we had to hang around, dirty and tired.. for 4 hours..!!! not happy..

When we did get to our rooms..which are pretty basic.
the whole time we had very little hot water. when it did come thru, we played the hot cold dance.

The pillows are really small and flat..
bed was comfortable though.
bathroom could use some hooks for hanging wet towels..and swim wear.

The Disco, is terrible... Hello. if you play decent music, the people will come, and dance..
The DJ wouldn't do requests either.. guite a few people got up and left due to the DJ..

Music around the pool, was good.. made you feel like joining in some of the games..etc..
The grounds and staff are good. Pool kept clean. short walk to beach area.. very nice..

We traveled with 2 other couples. all had the same complaints..
Also, its so far out, they don't even have a shuttle bus to town.
Taxi cost $20.00 us. each way.!!!

WE won't be staying there again..

We did do the snorkel tour, and jeep tour they were great!!!
highly recommend doing them..

  • Liked — the pool was great.. and beach only a short walk..
  • Disliked — the pillows, showers, disco.. and had to wait 4hrs as our rooms were not ready till 6pm.. not happy!!
