My Daughter and I were guests at the Iberostar Cozumel 3/17- 3/24. I agree the resort property is very nice, the greenery, pathways and wildlife were alot of fun to watch. The Star friends were great ! The pool was nice and the views of the sunset were awesome, it was the highlight of my trip! I did snorkel from the pier and enjoyed that as well, lots to see.
I borrowed rubber shoes from the towel hut for the water, works fine if you don't own any, save the money and borrow . I also used a pair of the resorts goggles,as all I had was a snorkel..and be ready to pay the $2.00 per person every day you go into the water! Even if you want to take out a kayac, which I thought was unfair, it is considered complimentary with the room, right? So for the folks who have your own snorkel equiptment, you could probably walk right in to the water do your thing and leave, but for those needing to borrow they get your money then and give you the 1 day wristband.
The buffets were o.k. Could have used more variety, and less flies and birds, I saw one (bird ) land on the cookies one day and it grossed me out...( loved them little cookies)
We did take a cab to town to see what was all there...if you get a coupon from the desk where you make your dinner reservations you can get your $17.00 cab fare turned into food bucks at Senior Frogs or Carlos and Charlies. So we walked and didn't really like the shopping, the store owners are too agressive for us, I have trouble ignoring people and you really have to or you'll never get away! Carlos and Charlies was wild, if you get into the whole 'teenagers gone wild' drunkin' spring break scene you'll love it! They will serve anyone, as they tried to give my 15 yr. old booze..sorry, just for Mom :) the one drink ate up my $17.00 coupon by the way, so bring lots of money if you go there, it's expensive! I'm glad I went but wouldn't miss it if I never went back sort of place...like, I left the resort why?
We did lose the electric as was already mentioned, as well as the water for 2 other days...No warnings, No apologies..No excuses..just a shrug and a " I dunno". The bathrooms were very poorly maintained during those times and they didn't provide water to wash...it was really unsanitary. I understand enexpected problems can arrise but feel the resort did very little to ease the inconvieniences. The food at the buffet during these times was also a bit of a gamble...I chose wisely as foods could not be kept at safe temps...pretty much stuck to cheese pizza to avoid illness.
I was well aware of the sewage stench you've probably read about..it is all around the Spa, Theatre and Lobby areas. My room was by the pool luckily, and only smelt musty, which I guess is the norm for humid places, I would suggest housekeeping use a disinfectant spray to freshen it up a tad, I wished I had my Lysol.
You would be well advised to bring lots of meds, from tummy remedies to skin rashes, I needed both. I had a wierd red itchy rash on my ankle that spread a bit, had white blotches as well, was not fun, don't know what from, I wasn't really in contact with anything. So bring your own as the gift shop will get you good !
Oh, and lastly, there are 2 computers in the lobby to send E mails home as phoning is too expensive!! Cost of $2.00 for 15 minutes. My teen was forever begging to go on...we read if was free sometimes after 10p.m. but that was a myth , nothing is free!
Don't forget to stop by the spa for a hot tub soak, they take appointments but the sheet is empty, so enjoy it, you get a private room outdoors, very cool!
To sum it up I would not go back to this resort, for the stuff I did like I'm sure I could find it at other resorts without the problems..I am still put out that we had to fly all the way back home to take a shower as the water was off the day we left and we had to wash up with 2 dixie cups of wated from the Spa bubbler..Ah, refreshing..
For those of you already booked, cross your fingers and hope for the best , I tried to be positve during this vacation but was ultimately defeated.
