My wife and I had a great time at the Iberostar Cozumel in 2004. We got our scuba certification from the very professional and well run Dressel Divers dive shop. We also rested and relaxed in the very peaceful setting of the resort. We had the opportunity to go on vacation again for a week. We wanted a well run all inclusive resort with great diving (we planned on doing 13 dives while on vacation). We thought about the Dominican Republic or even Jamaica, but we thought the diving might not be so great. We did want to stay with Iberostar if possible. Well along came a really great deal from Apple Vacation from Iberostar Cozumel ($849/person for 7 nights air and hotel) and despite our concerns about the recent huricanes and what happened specifically to the Iberostar Cozumel, we decided to go anyway because we had such a great time, love the diving and the price was outstanding.
We were **not** disappointed!!!! The Iberostar Cozumel is running on all cylinders. We saw much of the same staff memebers we met 2 years earlier. Everything was really great - the staff, the diving, the atmosphere. We again felt very peaceful and relaxed on this resort.
Our rooms were extremely clean, and the resort is in remarkable shape considering it went through a devestating huricane only 6-7 months earlier. There are a few minor things in the resort still being worked on but it didn't affect us at all. The only noticable affect I could see were the palm trees which had their leaves stripped off but were were in the process of growing back. My wife mentioned it actually opened up the view of the ocean which was nice!
We had requested a room with a closer view to the ocean and boom - we got it, no extra charge. They were not even charging to use the Internet kiosks this time which was very nice!
In filling out my review of our staff I pretty much gave everything the highest rating I could.
The only thing I would love to see a little improvement on would be the variety of food in the main dining room. Overall the food would get a 4 out of 5 stars for an all inclusive resort, which should be taken as very good overall.
I did notice I started losing my appetitve for breakfast and lunch especially toward the 5 day of my stay. Don't get me wrong, the food itself was good and there was plenty of it. It was just getting tiresome to see the same stuff day after day though. In 2004 there was more variety and I did miss that.
There was plenty of entertainment and the star friends worked tirelessly entertaining and getting guests involved with the many activities they had.
The bar was non-stop and everyday I was so full of cocktails that my stomach would get full before I felt any affects from the alchohol.
The service in this resort is simply top notch and very friendly.
The pool was always very clean.
If you are looking for diving and wonder how it is since the huricane, then don't worry. There are large amounts of sand blown over the more shallow reefs, but the color is there, the reefs and marine life in them are all alive and well. We saw lots of turtles, sting rays, eagle rays, nurse sharks, eels, lobsters, crabs, octopus, groupers, shools of many varieties of fish all over, and yes, we saw the splendid toadfish which is only in Cozumel. All of this within a 5-20 minutes boat ride from the resort. What else could you want from a dive resort?
Overall, definately a 5 star rating and we will most definately go back again for the super high value this resort provides: peaceful secluded setting, all inclusive, some of the worlds best diving.
