My husband and I went to Iberostar July 30 - August 2. Here is the real review of the real Iberostar. We went on a Funjet (Transmeriddian Airlines). The flight was great, boarding in Houston went very smooth as well as arrival in Cozumel. We arrived at the resort about 10a.m. Weather was VERY humid. Our room was not ready so we had to sit in the lobby area and wait and sweat and wait and sweat until our room was ready. Then we requested some daquiris which tasted like stawberry slushes. I had to ask for some rum so it would taste like a drink. We finally got our key, about 12 noon, was brought to our room. Much to my surprise it was nice....marble and stone floor, glass shower, stucco walls and ceiling. Our room had a 'normal' ceiling, not a thatched roof like some of the rooms. There was no musty odor, A/C was nice and cold. So far so good until I laid on the bed. The bed may as well have been plywood. It was so hard. If you plan on going bring a cushion for a king size bed or else you will not sleep. We were starving so we went to the buffet. There was something for everyone but Mexicans just can not cook American food. The first lunch buffet was NOT good at all. There is only a certain time in the a.m. and in the p.m. to make reservations at the two decent restaurants in the resort. By the time we went to make reservations everything was already booked at both restaurants for the next 3 days!!! Total frustration had set in. We decided to go to town to have a decent drink and meal. The cab ride was $17 one way!! The meals did get better. The dinner buffet was good, lots more to choose from and you can have wine with your meal. The breakfast buffet is the best. AS for mosquitos, they only come out at night so bring plenty of repellant (if you want to go). The pools are wonderful with swim-up bars, it is very relaxing to lay in the loungers under the thatch roofs on the beach...but...don't go near the water. It was full of seaweed and lots of rocks and was not safe. They have activities all day and entertainment at night which is pretty good. Of course our best entertainment was Zona Jones and Swingwest!!! After reading this review you probably think I hated the resort but not really. The grounds are breathtaking and well maintained. Don't expect perfection. After all...this is Mexico. Their 5 star hotels are NOT the same as American 5 star hotels. WE were treated very well. One warning. Do not trust Funjet personnel at the resort. They will try to get you to spend lots of money unnecessarily. They are there only to make mone for Funjet. Decide what you want to do before you go. Do NOT ask their opinion of things to do. Probably the only reason I would not go back to this particualr Iberostar is be distance from the mainland and the cost of the taxi. If you don't mind sweating, the beach, the pool, lots of walking because the place is huge, lizards, iguanas, flamingos, peacocks, parrots and don't mind paying a lot for a cab ride then you will certainly enjoy the Iberostar.

I cant believe the negitive comments about this resort. I guess there are those types of people that are never satisfied no mater what. I took my family to the Iberostar resort last March and had a great time. The food was great, the staff bent over backwards for every request. So far this is the nicest resort we've been to in Mexico. Were going back this March and we cant wait. Hola!!!

This was our second summer at the Iberostar and our fourth time to Cozumel. We absolutely love the resort and plan on staying there every year. The food is great. They have a wide variety to choose from every night. Lobster night is our favorite; the seafood is exceptional. The staff are so hard working; please tip them. They are so appreciative. We are a family of divers; our 23 year old daughter travels with us each year as well. We did not use the onsite dive shop, and the other operator picked us up at the pier every day. That was no problem. We rented scooters and went to the other side of the island one day. It is absolutely beautiful. Also, we took the ferry to Playa del Carmen one day. My husband and daughter dived in a cenote at Hidden Worlds and loved it. We went to the Tucan Quetzel Iberostar over there for the afternoon. It is a beautiful resort as well. We are sold on iberostar resorts. There is no comparison as far as we are concerned. The Iberostar at Cozumel will be a yearly trip for us. We are even thinking about going back before next summer. My daughter and I are both teachers and have a week off in March and we can't think of a better way to spend our time off. It amazed us that a lot of the staff remembered us from last year. We went to town two nights, one to look and shop, and the other to go to Carlos and Charlies. What a great time! Taxi is $17 from the Iberostar. Please feel free to email us if you have any questions. We wish we were back there right now and can't wait to return.

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed our week stay at the Iberostar July 21 - 28. We checked in on a Wednesday (which we recommend, not as busy and had no problems making reservations in the two restaurants)

The hotel grounds are beautiful! My husband thought the grounds were prettier than the Westin in Maui. Yes, you will see a few Iguanas and Geckos. You're in the jungle! You will also see flamingos, peacocks, parrots and the most colorful butterflies.

There were a few mosquitos - if you're from Houston or Dallas it's just like home! Use some Off and you're good to go.

The food was great - a good variety. The pickiest eater will find something. They served grilled lobster twice. We didn’t except it - just got lucky. I'm sure the chef orders it when he can get a good deal. (Best food we have had at an all inclusive hotel in Mexico)

Diving was awesome! Our dive master said Iberostar is the best resort for diving because you are close to all the dive sites. He was right! Not allot of time spent on the boat. We highly recommend Dive with Martin. Small groups of no more than 10. Friendly crew - made us feel comfortable. This is good for a group of new divers! No problems getting on the boat from the Iberostar pier.

I could go on and on about the hotel. They understand the meaning of Hospitality and trust me it's had to please a fellow hotelier. We did lose some luggage, but it arrived a few days later. Not the hotels fault. All you need is a swimsuit!

The Shows are fun not lame as one reviewer said. You're not going to see a Broadway show! It's fun. Relax a little!

On a last note... Please! Please! Tip you waiter or bartender. Where have you stayed that was all inclusive that had pool/beach drink service? All staff was friendly and worked hard to make our stay enjoyable.

We will come back! We were sad to leave.

We stayed at the Iberostar 7/22/04-7/29/04 It is far from a five star resort. We have stayed on Cozumel in the past at the El Cozumeleno and the Rivera Maya at the Bahia Principe both Akumal and Tulum those are 5 star resorts.

Our check in went well, which is unusual for Mexico, Hector was great and got us rooms in the same building all on the lower floor which was great. Vivian the person in charge of the nightly resturant meals was not friendly and never smiled, set us up with a night at the Mexican and a night at the steak resturant. We later found out she filled out the wrong night for the steak and they would not let us in. When we talked with the front desk area they said nothing they could do about it. Saw Vivian the next day, she took no credit for the mistake and told us the steak resturant was booked the rest of the time we were there but she would try to work it out. She came through though at 7:30PM for the night we could go to the steak resturant. By then though we had already eaten dinner. She was very rude. The waiters and bus boys in the buffet were either great or bad, no inbetween. We either got drinks or they never asked and we just got up and got our own. ( I tipped and it didn't make a difference) The food was poor but it is Mexico, we are used to that. There was something every night that you could find that you liked. Lunch however was miserable. Eat lots for breakfast.

We had 2 rooms, thank god because they were very small, half the size they are in normal resorts. You spend very little time in the room but there was not even a dresser, half the closet was little compartments to put your clothes. The shower drains in both rooms stopped up, so did the toilets. Our room maid was awesome, very nice and did a great job.

We dove with Emerald Dolphin, They were a class act dive group. Took great care of us and we had alot of fun diving with them. Small groups. We did not plan to dive with Iberostar's dive shop Dressler because of their large groups. We did however do one night dive with them. They had about 10 experienced people with and experienced dive master and 6 people including us, that had never been on a night dive with a divemaster that had never taken out a night dive. All of their flash lights, that we rented, quit working except for one. The divemaster kept running into everyone, my kids said it was a fiasco.

We normally don't complain, we are in Mexico on vacation and there to dive. We were under those circumstances able to blow off most of the problems. I hate though that we paid as much as we did and it was not a 5 star act. Would we go back there? No, we would stay at another hotel for sure. Any renovations they claim to have done in 2004 are not noticable. The place was very run down.
