My husband and I went to Iberostar July 30 - August 2. Here is the real review of the real Iberostar. We went on a Funjet (Transmeriddian Airlines). The flight was great, boarding in Houston went very smooth as well as arrival in Cozumel. We arrived at the resort about 10a.m. Weather was VERY humid. Our room was not ready so we had to sit in the lobby area and wait and sweat and wait and sweat until our room was ready. Then we requested some daquiris which tasted like stawberry slushes. I had to ask for some rum so it would taste like a drink. We finally got our key, about 12 noon, was brought to our room. Much to my surprise it was nice....marble and stone floor, glass shower, stucco walls and ceiling. Our room had a 'normal' ceiling, not a thatched roof like some of the rooms. There was no musty odor, A/C was nice and cold. So far so good until I laid on the bed. The bed may as well have been plywood. It was so hard. If you plan on going bring a cushion for a king size bed or else you will not sleep. We were starving so we went to the buffet. There was something for everyone but Mexicans just can not cook American food. The first lunch buffet was NOT good at all. There is only a certain time in the a.m. and in the p.m. to make reservations at the two decent restaurants in the resort. By the time we went to make reservations everything was already booked at both restaurants for the next 3 days!!! Total frustration had set in. We decided to go to town to have a decent drink and meal. The cab ride was $17 one way!! The meals did get better. The dinner buffet was good, lots more to choose from and you can have wine with your meal. The breakfast buffet is the best. AS for mosquitos, they only come out at night so bring plenty of repellant (if you want to go). The pools are wonderful with swim-up bars, it is very relaxing to lay in the loungers under the thatch roofs on the beach...but...don't go near the water. It was full of seaweed and lots of rocks and was not safe. They have activities all day and entertainment at night which is pretty good. Of course our best entertainment was Zona Jones and Swingwest!!! After reading this review you probably think I hated the resort but not really. The grounds are breathtaking and well maintained. Don't expect perfection. After all...this is Mexico. Their 5 star hotels are NOT the same as American 5 star hotels. WE were treated very well. One warning. Do not trust Funjet personnel at the resort. They will try to get you to spend lots of money unnecessarily. They are there only to make mone for Funjet. Decide what you want to do before you go. Do NOT ask their opinion of things to do. Probably the only reason I would not go back to this particualr Iberostar is be distance from the mainland and the cost of the taxi. If you don't mind sweating, the beach, the pool, lots of walking because the place is huge, lizards, iguanas, flamingos, peacocks, parrots and don't mind paying a lot for a cab ride then you will certainly enjoy the Iberostar.
