I can't believe that some of these reviewers stayed at the same resort, especially the person from Colarado who hated everything and said everyone was getting sick.

We stayed at the Iberostar from Feb. 25 to Mar. 3 and while we were there, met a ton of people. First of all, we felt that all of the 4 - 5 star reviews and comments were accurate and pretty much helped us get ready for the vacation. We were in one of the top floor rooms, which we loved. We knew to bring the candle and once we ran the air conditioning, the musty smell pretty much disappeared. It was never unbearable (as so many other reviewers have said - remember where you're going - the weather is conducive to creating this musty smell).
Everyone we talked to loved this place, including ourselves. Yes, you can get some geckos in your room - it's all part of the charm. We didn't hear any of our neighbours and we loved the hammock on our balcony. In addition, the maid always did an incredible job on our rooms and left trails of flower petals along the bed and different animals made out of our towels every day!

Yes, the beach is rocky - bring water shoes or get in the water off the pier and it's fine. We hung out around the pool, played tennis, water volleyball, pingpong etc. etc. I went with two of the world's pickiest eaters and they were amazed at the food and the selection. We did not find it to be repetitive - again, remember you're going to a Mexican resort where they are preparing large amounts of food for hundreds of people. The shrimp are the size of cucumbers and the steak was great - made to order omelettes for breakfast, french toast to die for - do I need to go on?

The staff at the Iberostar were always smiling and always bending over backwards to help out - again, we met a ton of people who all said the same thing. We did find a couple of people who for some reason were rude and miserable (not sure how you can be in this beautiful tropical setting) and perhaps they received treatment in return that matched their own .... oh well!

The Star Friends work 14 hour days, but they are always smiling and getting people involved. The shows were entertaining.

The grounds are beautiful and immaculate. We brought our kids along and they didn't want to leave. The kids club was fun, but they also love hanging with us around the pool. Sure, there were certain areas where you could smell the sewage treatment but we just avoided them - none of the main areas smelled. The pools are awesome - sure they're not heated and the only reason why they feel cool at first is because it is so darn hot outside!!!

We loved everything about the Iberostar and will not hesitate to return. We've been to many all-inclusive resorts (including others on Cozumel) and agreed after only a day there that the Iberostar Cozumel is superior to any of the others. If you go there expecting US 5-star, then you shouldn't be going to Mexico, but if you want a stress-free tropical hang out where you can swim up to the pool bar every now and then for a tasty beverage, then go for it! Thanks to all the previous TripAdvisor reviewers who steered us to the Iberostar!!!!!!!

I spent two weeks at the resort. Jan 31 - Feb 14, 2004. The grounds are beautiful and I loved the flamingos, peacocks and iguanas. The staff at the facility are wonderful. Hi Alberto, Victor, Manuel, and Eduardo. I loved the food but I ate too much. The paths around the cottages are all circular and I kept getting lost. My room had a thatched roof which I though was great. The guests were terrific and I made many new aquaintances. Hi Ryan and Russell, Patricia and Eric, Kathy and Doug and Debbie and Larry. You all helped to make my visit to Iberostar special. Thank you!!

We are definatly planning on returning to resort...don't listen to the people who say its not good....its great and you won't be disapointed with it one bit..I promise!! Make sure to get a dirty monkey and visit senor frogs in town, that was a lot of fun. Beautiful..beautiful resort and we are already planning our next visit!!!

4 of us went down Feb.16-22. Weather was sunny and hot minus 2 rainy days. Overall the resort is beautiful and the staff are so wonderful, especially Antonio & Victor. Gorgeous grounds! We knew the beachfront wasn't going to be a place we hung out at because of the rocky coral. We stuck to the pool. It was full capacity the week we went which meant you had to take your towels and snag pool chairs as early as 6-7 a.m. each morning or be stuck without. Highly recommend placing personal items (books, t-shirts, magazines etc.) on your chairs in addition to the towels because people will steal your seats otherwise. Weird but true as it happened to us. Better yet, bring your own beach towel so you can find it easily among the hotel blue ones. The food was good not exceptional. The mexican restaurant is not worth dining at. Its practically the same food you can get at the buffets. The steak restaurant was better. For awesome drinking order a Sombrero (like a white russian but with tequila) or get the Dirty Monkey and sip them at the pool bar.The rooms are really nice. The walls are a bit thin but turn your tv on to one of the music-only channels to drown your neighbours out if you must. Those complaining about the musty smell in the rooms need to chill out. This is the tropics not Canada or the U.S. We brought a scented candle & room spray but never felt the need to use them. The A/C works great. On 1-2 of the days the sewage could be smelled at times around the area our building was located in which wasn't nice but we survived.DO NOT dive with the Black Shark Dive operation (based in the town of San Miguel). It was so unprofessional. I guess that's why they are so cheap. If anyone wants details email me and I'll tell you why. The Dressel Diver operation at the resort is so much better. Great boats, briefings, equipment and instructors. It is very expensive but we decided that we'd rather pay more to have a good and safe experience than the one we had earlier in the week.We don't care for tours so we did our own thing. We highly recommend renting a Jeep for the day ($90 US incl. rental, insurance & taxes). Drive down to Punta Sur for shrimp quesadillas, nachos, guacamola (way better than the version at the resort) & corona and watch the waves crash onto the beach. Then move on to Playa Bonita where you can get into the water and walk out 100 feet in sand. It was heavenly. Continue up the coast to Coconuts. The view is spectacular while sipping on a Pina Colada. The place is so busy that service is ridiculously slow. The food wasn't worth the 45 mins. wait.Overall, we liked the resort but think we'll do an Adults Only next time or try the Occidental ones next door as they looked a lot nicer.

Iberostar Cozumel was a unique experience with the four unit quarters in a beautiful garden path with birds and lizards roaming freely. It was very clean with the the most freindly staff I have experienced. All of the entertainment staff was great (favorites were Eduardo and Miss Billy). They didn't force you on stage but asked with some humour and geniune interest. No I did not go on stage. The food was good to excellent but more excellent than good. Drinks were great and the bartenders are fast and freindly. It isn't a swinging night spot. More of a great relax spot. Very quiet usually. There is a disco we would go to and they played what you asked for or if there were no requests, tried to feel out the group. Snorkelling in front is O.K. by Cozumel standards but very good to excellent compared to most resorts I have been to. There are world class reefs on the island that are hard to compete with. I would like to have seen an outdoor bar at night and or a bar by the beach. The beach is beautiful on a bright day but is difficult to get in the water with the rocky coral. Take water shoes, to even walk the beach. I wore the soles of my feet in the wonderfully rough coral sand. The jungle jeep tour was fantastic. It allowed you to visit the natural rough, uninhabited side of the island were we snorkelled some beautiful reefs. The cabs are expensive and can not negotiable. There is no bus service. To go to town for two people was $34.00 US plus a tip. The town is beautiful but the cab cost made it a one trip affair. It is too bad because I think it hurts some of the Island business. I hope to return to Iberostar as it was a most memorable vacation and I highly recommend it based on this review.
