I stayed at the Iberostar in April because I received a refund from Iberostar properties on another trip I was unable to complete. I have stayed in Cozumel before, and have always enjoyed the Island; however, I have never before stayed at an all inclusive. Most simply, I recommend this hotel for people who are not leaving the property, and I discourage people who would like to explore the Island and San Miguel. First, unless you are on the property from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. you can not get dinner reservations, and must eat at the buffet (which is mediocre at best). Second, the hotel is very far from San Miguel, so taxis will be a significant cost. The hotel has a Thrifty rental car desk where I received possibly the best rental car I have ever had in Mexico. My friends who scuba dive suggested this was a good area to dive from (and many people were diving). The grounds were beautiful, and the rooms were very adequate. The rooms are arranged in 8 room buildings, which would be ideal for a group, and depending on the room one would have partial privacy on the small deck at the room entrance (depending-one might be on a major thoroughfare)-2nd floor is a nice option. Finally, the beach was a nice place to lay out on, though past the waters edge it was very rocky. They seemed to have enough chairs, Palapas, etc. The crowd was generally older (over 40 and many seniors) with a mix of couples and families with children in their teens.

Bring a copy of the reservation (not just the reservation number) as I had a copy and still had trouble checking in (they did not have enough rooms for my party) which was ultimately resolved, although with a fair amount of hassle when someone off sight was finally contacted.

In summation, if you plan to stay on the property and take advantage of the all inclusive nature-this property offers good bars, and average dinning. The lush, park setting is a good place to unwind, and the beach and pool are nice places to relax. If you like to adventure off siteto the rest of the Island, San Miguel and the Yucatan Penensula, or if you want a fast paced atmoshpere I would avoid this resort.

We went to Cozumel for a girls trip from April 30-May 4. We really liked the resort itself. The rooms were nice, the grounds are beautiful and well kept and the food was good. The main problem with the Iberostar is the beach/oceanfront. I had read that it was very rocky, but I didn't expect it to be as bad as it was. It is extremely difficult to enter the water from the beach because of the rocky/uneven entrance. The water was very choppy during our stay and there were fairly big waves (for Cozumel) so we didn't even try to enter the ocean from the beach (we had even brought water shoes). If you lose your balance and fall or a wave would knock you over you would really get cut up from the rocks. We met a lady who said she spent an hour picking out sharp rock from her feet after she walked on the rocks. This was a major bummer for us because we love to spend time in the ocean and we spent very little time in it on this trip. We went snorkeling with Chala (go next door to Albertos to find him). He has a small boat so he can only take small groups out. He knows where to find a lot of cool things that you won't see when you go on large group snorkeling trips. I would definitely recommend going snorkeling with him!!

The shows at night were fun. We especially liked the authentic Mexican dancers. Their costumes were very colorful and elaborate. Since we didn't have our families/kids with us we didn't have a lot of interaction with the Star Friends.

The food was good and there was a good variety. We especially enjoyed the Mexican restaurant. The shrimp dish was delicious!! We also ate at the Steak House and the rib eye was very good. One of our favorites was the flan....it was great.

The rooms are very nice and kept clean. I liked that there was a small refrigerator stocked with bottled water, beer and pop. We were disappointed that we got no towel art!! The bathroom was spacious and the tiled showers were very nice. The mattresses are hard, but the same as other resorts on the island. We didn't like the location of our room and they changed it to a better location right away. The front desk staff were very friendly and helpful.

The pools are beautiful and have a double sided swim up bar. We took the free scuba lesson in the pool that is offered every day. We brought our own floats ($1.99 from Wal-Mart). They cost $14.00 in the gift shop. We left them with another couple we met at the end of our trip.

So, if you want a beautiful sandy beach where you can play in the ocean, this is not the place to go. This is the reason we go to Cozumel, so we probably won't go back to the Iberostar. If you don't like going in the ocean and like hanging out around the pool, then I would highly recommend the Iberostar.

The best vacation we have been on as a family. The grounds were beautiful and the rooms were very comfortable. Very relaxing with a hammock on each patio. The beds were a little hard but better that then sagging in the middle. The beach is sandy but you do need water shoes if you plan on going into the ocean directly from the beach. You can go into the water from the pier to snorkle to avoid those rocks. Found lots of shells on the beach for soveniers. The staff was wonderful, especially the Star Friends, can't say enough good things about Pastor and Guga and Kait. Ronaldo at the pool bar made some very good drinks. There were plenty of activities for all ages, if you wanted to participate. Check out the ceramic painting by the beach/pool and say "hi" to Alberto and Lucero. The food was good, although by the end of the week, you did get a little tired of buffet food. Even my fussy brother-in-law found plenty to eat. We were very sad to leave and I can't wait to go back. My daughter is already planning a return trip in August.

I cannot say enough good things about the resort and wedding planners at the Iberostar Cozumel. We had a meeting with the planners one afternoon and chose everything from flowers to hair, meals at the reception, music, and decorations. It was SO simple, and the girls were super friendly. The wedding day was gorgeous, and everything went smoothly. The photographer on the resort was absolutely wonderful and our pictures are professional and beautiful. We were married in a small gazebo and the minister spoke english, so no translating. Overall it was our perfect wedding day.
The rest of the resort was great as well. We were never disappointed with the buffet food, there was always something great. Carmen in the morning makes a mean omelette! The Mexican restaurant is where we had our reception and the food was awesome. The steakhouse was not the greatest, but we weren't expecting wonderful steaks. The rockstar café was pretty good. I had the salmon which was pretty bland, but most people enjoyed what they had. The disco was a lot of fun, but we wished it opened a little earlier. None of us were interested in the star friends performances, but they were always busy, so I'm assuming they were good shows! The grounds were so beautiful, very well kept. The wildlife was awesome, we even got a wedding pic with a peacock in the background and all of his feathers. The pool floor is a bit jagged in places, so watershoes would be good, although it wasn't a big deal to us. The beach is nice, although rocky, so the pool is where we swam. We did some snorkeling, which was one of the excursions, sunset catamaran, with margaritas! It was awesome, I had never done it before and I had a great time, definitely do that if you go! We also did the VW bug tour around the island. This was a really fun way to actually get out and see the rest of the island. Our room was great, the towel art was creative, and our room was always clean. We were unhappy with our room when we got there because it was quite far from the rest of our group, so we went to the front desk, and she put us in a new room right away. Everyone was really friendly, drinks are great, you can't go thirsty! I'd recommend this resort to anyone looking for a fun getaway, destination wedding, or family fun. We had a blast and I want to go back!

We are in our 30's and selected the Iberostar Cozumel for our destination wedding. Most of our wedding party of 30+ were there for 5 days. The wedding part of our trip went smoothly and the onsite wedding coordinators made it easy to plan the whole wedding. We planned the flowers, minister, reception, reception dinner, DJ & music, beach layout, wedding cake flavors & design, and mariachis in about 2 hours time. We loved the fact that it was so easy to customize our wedding. The staff executed everything the way we requested. The beach layout looked awesome, the flowers were good quality and looked as nice as what you can get in the USA. We were really impressed with the wedding cake that was elaborately decorated and tasted wonderful. Our only complaint with the wedding portion of the review is that it was very difficult to get all of our wedding party seated together for dinner. It was painful to get reservations at any of the restaurants (a la carte or buffet) for all of our wedding party for a "rehersal dinner". It was only when we escalated to management did we get any traction. We only wanted to be seated in a common area, didn't have to have huge tables built for us.
Now for the dangerous part:
* The beach (part that is underwater) is rocky for 25 yards out to sea. We knew this and told everyone to bring aquasocks/water shoes. Several people in our party twisted their ankles in the water.
* Over half of our wedding party got sick at different times and on different days. We think it is from the food as everyone was instructed to use bottled water for brushing teeth and at dinner. Some were vomiting and most had diarrhea. As for myself, on our wedding day (2 days into our stay) started to feel loss of energy and during the reception couldn't eat and then started to get the shakes. I went to bed with chills, diarrea, and very high fever. The next day I was fine. After the trip, we have had reports from several people who were sick for two weeks after leaving.
The rooms are so so. They have a motion sensor in them so the Air conditioner will turn off when you leave the room. They will be warm when you return. We had lots of ants in our bathroom and saw several small roaches in the main rooms.

The steakhouse was sub par. Everyone's steak was overcooked. The buffet food seemed to blend together and all have the same flavor. After 2 days everyone was bored with the food. Cozumel was good for diving and snorkeling but we won't be returning to Iberostar Cozumel.

  • Liked — Excellent wedding services and very reasonably priced wedding packages
  • Disliked — Rocky beach and that many people got really sick
