I stayed at the Iberostar in April because I received a refund from Iberostar properties on another trip I was unable to complete. I have stayed in Cozumel before, and have always enjoyed the Island; however, I have never before stayed at an all inclusive. Most simply, I recommend this hotel for people who are not leaving the property, and I discourage people who would like to explore the Island and San Miguel. First, unless you are on the property from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. you can not get dinner reservations, and must eat at the buffet (which is mediocre at best). Second, the hotel is very far from San Miguel, so taxis will be a significant cost. The hotel has a Thrifty rental car desk where I received possibly the best rental car I have ever had in Mexico. My friends who scuba dive suggested this was a good area to dive from (and many people were diving). The grounds were beautiful, and the rooms were very adequate. The rooms are arranged in 8 room buildings, which would be ideal for a group, and depending on the room one would have partial privacy on the small deck at the room entrance (depending-one might be on a major thoroughfare)-2nd floor is a nice option. Finally, the beach was a nice place to lay out on, though past the waters edge it was very rocky. They seemed to have enough chairs, Palapas, etc. The crowd was generally older (over 40 and many seniors) with a mix of couples and families with children in their teens.
Bring a copy of the reservation (not just the reservation number) as I had a copy and still had trouble checking in (they did not have enough rooms for my party) which was ultimately resolved, although with a fair amount of hassle when someone off sight was finally contacted.
In summation, if you plan to stay on the property and take advantage of the all inclusive nature-this property offers good bars, and average dinning. The lush, park setting is a good place to unwind, and the beach and pool are nice places to relax. If you like to adventure off siteto the rest of the Island, San Miguel and the Yucatan Penensula, or if you want a fast paced atmoshpere I would avoid this resort.
