This was our first Family "Non-Theme Park" Vacation with two boys ages 10 and 12. We absolutely loved this resort. The flora and fauna were wonderful- lots of lizards, parrots, toads, iguanas , flowers ,scrubs, trees etc.. The boys had fun every day watching the flamingos and talking to the parrots. The room was adequate but rather small with four people and five suitcases( no storage space). We found the beds somewhat hard and we needed to order extra pillows ( they were very quickly brought to us) .I would highly recommend a flashlight to use with the safe in the closet to see the numbers and while we were there the power went out during a rainstorm and it was pitch dark!!! The boys tried many activities like archery, pool volleyball, beach volleyball, bocci ball, soccer, horseshoes, target shooting with an air rifle, movies after supper, mini disco etc. They also spent some time in the "mini-club" and".mini-disco". The Star Friends " staff were fun, friendly and patient with the boys. The snorkelling was really great by the dock and the boys enjoyed taking rolls from the dining room and feeding the fish. I do wish that we had brought an air mattress or blow up pool toy for them for the pool. Insulated mugs would have come in handy too, to keep those delicious drinks cold....If you tip the waiters a few bucks they will trip over themselves to wait on you. Even without tipping, the service was top notch. The staff were all very friendly and worked very hard. The food was the best that we have had on any of our vacations . There was so much to chose from ... Even our "picky" eater had lots of choices. Try the mangoes, they don't taste like that at home and also one of our favorite things was the homemade salsa ( we ate it at EVERY meal). The salsa at the poolside grill was not as tasty as at other eating areas. We rented a jeep for the day and toured the Island whcih was a blast. The jeep was very well used (no radio, engine light on periodically, no windows etc) but fun. We paid $99.00 US and had it for a 24 hour period. We rented it from noon one day to noon the next day which that allowed us two mornings with transportation and time to revisit places if you wanted to. I think that next time I would try to book the jeep online at home, as I heard it was cheaper to do it that way .We also went snorkelling at two different reefs. Amazing... our 10 year old was rather nervous though,as the water was very deep, you could not see shore, the boat was far away and you drifted with the current. Overall, this was our best family vaction yet and I am looking forward to another "Non-Theme-Park" vacation...

I'm not going to repeat what everybody else has already said, because it's pretty much all true. I'll just write something I haven't seen in the other reviews.

Before, I left, I read about the rocky beach, but I just thought I would walk over the rocks and that would be it, and then I would be on sandy bottom. That was not the case. The rocks go all the way out past the pier. They are smooth at the pier, for good snorkeling, but the other 2 couples we travel with, were very dissappointed with the rocky beach. So, if you love sandy beaches, you might not want to stay here, even though the rest of the resort is beautiful.

Also, nobody mentioned anything regarding the room keys. It took us about 25 swipes, each time we tried to open our door. Same with the 2 other couples. I got my key, re-activated because I couldn't take it anymore.

Third, nobody mentions horseback riding. I mentioned this last year, when I stayed at the Allegro. "Palmitas" is located about a mile north of the Iberostar, on the right side of the road. It's about 1/2 block north of the Allegro. You ride slow through the jungle on a rocky path, then stop at a little cenote cave, then go to the small square at El Cedral where you can shop and get a drink. There's also 1 very small fertility ruin and a cute small church and 2 large pavillons. You can ride for 1, 1 1/2 , 2, 3 or more hours. I forget the prices, but they were not expensive, compared to in the states.

I think these are the only things I haven't seen mentioned before, I hope it helps someone make a decision.

This place was great! The resort is nice and small and an interesting layout. I still kept getting lost after 7 days but that might have been the Miami Vice?

We had a nice upper room. Very clean! No big bugs. We had a nice view of the gardens where Louey the 7' iguana would sun himself each morning. The AC worked well! The cable package was a little spartan. 4 channels of soccer and then porn after 11:00 pm. Here's a hint: Plug your coffee maker in the bathroom. That way you won't have to unplug the clock radio. But don't waste your time drinking that coffee in the room. Order cappuccinos in the bar and restaurant!

The beach is nice and sandy. The water is rocky however. Wear your flippers or aqua socks. The star friends are wonderful hosts. We involved ourselves in just about every activity from bingo to water polo. 4 of the 5 of us were awarded t-shirts. We should have gotten one more if it wasn't for that darn Mitchell!

The shows are a stitch! Sometimes painful to watch! To see Frank lip sinc to Tom Jones will bring tears to your eyes. The star friends band ir pretty good to! They love playing ' Oye Como Va'.

The food is really good but becomes repetitive after a week. I wish someone would eat those green mussels! The steak house was great! The girls were having flashbacks to "Thunder from Down Under" due to the pleather aprons. They are more than happy to bring you a second bloomin onion or apple pie. My scale doesn't lie.

The disco is a lot of fun. Luis is more than happy to teach you the "Superman" or "Cha Cha Shuffle". Very little Mexican Accordion Techno being played which was nice! DJ Heavy D Donatello is more than happy to take requests. Show up after 11:30. By then he's done with the old folks set.

Angel and Berisi are excellent bartenders and Josefina was a wonderful waitress!

My husband, myself and our 21 year old daughter returned from Cozumel a week ago. We spent a glorious week at the Iberostar Cozumel. Let us begin by saying this is our third visit to Cozumel. Each time we have stayed at the Ib Coz. . .enough said! We love the place and highly recommend it. Now here’s our take on things:

Check-in/Check-out: A breeze. The front desk staff quickly and cheerfully handled all the details.

Grounds: Absolutely stunning. Lush and tropical. The walkways meander throughout the resort. There are peacocks, flamingoes and, of course, iguanas.

The Beach: Nice sandy area with many loungers. The entrance to the water is a bit rocky. This makes for better shore snorkeling right off the hotel beach or the pier. We did not snorkel off the hotel beach this trip, but have done so in the past. It’s fun and can be a real treat. There is a beach bar, but we did not utilize those services.

The Pools: The pools are great. We did notice them to be a bit chilly at the beginning of our trip, but they warmed up nicely within a day or two. We never had a problem finding a lounger to sit at the pool. The bartenders at the pool bar and friendly and work hard.

Bungalows: One of our favorite things about the Ib Cozumel is the fact that the rooms are bungalows. We love the quiet, private feeling of the bungalows. On each of our trips we stayed in the 8000 section. This time was stayed in a second story room. We weren’t sure about this at first, but it was great. Upon checking into our room we noticed a very strong smell of cigarette smoke. We called the front desk and the housekeeping staff promptly came to our room, aired it out and sprayed a deodorizer. The beds are firm, but by no means unbearable. The mirrors in the bathrooms could use replacing, but overall the rooms were great. Very quiet and immaculately clean.

Food: We found the food to be very good. And, yes, the buffet could get repetitive, but we tried to mix it up a bit and try new foods. We also ate at the Mexican restaurant, the steakhouse and the Rock Star Café. We’ve read mediocre reviews on the Mexican restaurant, but we found the food to be very good! Our suggestion is to go in with an open mind and don’t expect an Americanized version of Mexican food. We had the beef flambe (what a show our waiter put on!) and beef tacos. Wonderful. The Rock Star Café was great fun and the food good. At the steakhouse we each had the beef tenderloin, as recommended by our waiter. It was tasty and tender.

Star Friends: The Star Friends are the group of entertainers. By day they are teaching salsa, beach volleyball, water aerobics, pool games, bocce ball, etc. By night they are providing entertainment on the stage. Although not “professional” entertainers, they do a great job and put their heart into their performances. Some of the dancers are fantastic. It was refreshing to see that they changed some of the shows this year.

There are car rentals and tour bookings available near the hotel lobby. If you’d like some information about our car rental experiences, please contact us.

Overall, we think the Iberostar Cozumel is about as close to paradise as you’ll find anywhere!

It took awhile to get there but when we did we were greeted by a friendly staff. That night we found the sheets on the bed were dirty and had to be changed, other wise the resort was very clean. There was a half drank bottle of water in the mini bar. Bring a flash light for the safe and gym. Stay inside between 5 and 6pm because thats when they spray for bugs and its not good. I was bit up alittle on the beach but once I put spray on it was okay. You don't know you're getting bit untill days later. The food was okay, the service was great, alot of beautiful birds and other creatures that live there, you can not go in the water without water shoes. Chairs at the beach and pool are saved even though signs are posted not to. Very peaceful and quiet. Entertainment not very good but they try. Go to town for cheap shopping. We had to have the safe fixed twice and by the time we left the safe and refridge were both not working. Thats my review now here's my husbands: "Can't wait to go back next year!"
