We were at the Iberostar Cozumel for a week in August 2012.We read all the reviews about the resort, good and bad. We would like to comment on the bad first. Yes, the beds are hard. Request one of the foam toppers, it makes a world of difference. As for the sewage-like smell; their sprinkler system was on the day we arrived. The smell is sulfur water. I remember that smell from living in Florida, where many "home" wells contained sulfur water. If you don't like 4-legged animal life roaming the grounds, go to New York City. We enjoyed watching the iguanas, flamingos, peacocks, kitties, and birds as we traversed the paths throughout the grounds. After the first morning, my camera went to breakfast with me every day. Yes, the resort is quite a ways from town. We rented a car for the week; which gave us the freedom of going to town whenever we wanted. As for the food, almost everything I had was good. The main restaurants are buffets, with food available most of the day. The fruit was always fresh at breakfast. The salads and fixings were fresh at lunch and at dinner. The fresh-made guacamole was delicious and was available at the lunch and dinner buffets. The drinks were always good and made as I requested. The pool bar was sometimes manned by just one person, so you had to be patient. The bungalows are cute and cozy. Our room was very comfortable. The air conditioner worked almost too well at times. Coffee pots and stocked refrigerators in the rooms are a very nice touch. We both drink Diet Coke and the maid was very diligent about keeping it stocked; even going so far as to leave a few on the top of the refrig, so that we could replace the cold ones. The wait staff in the restaurants were very nice and went out of their way to provide all our needs. We are both divers and used the on-site Dive shop, Dressel Divers. All of the guides and dive masters were excellent. The boat crews were great. I had a headache one morning and decided to skip the first dive. I spent that time talking to the captain and first mate on the boat. We discussed so many different things. I taught them English words and they taught me some Spanish. All in all, I think our only complaint was that we had to leave. And we will definitely go back.
