Just returned from a week's vacation at the Iberostar Cozumel. Booked with Air Canada Vacations from Toronto. Flight with Air Canada was uneventful, check-in at Iberostar was speedy and
efficient. Unfortunately, when we arrived our room wasn't going to be ready for another 2 hours, so we found a washroom, hanged into our beach clothes and went looking around.

THE ROOM
The room was small, but adequate for 2 people. We were in room 7511, which is a 2nd floor room about equal distance from the pool or the lobby. The room has a mini-bar that is restocked every other day, however, if you run out of something they tell you to call Reception and they will bring you more. We had a room with a king size bed, so yes, they do exist. As other reviewers have said, the beds are very hard. The tv actually had quite a few channels (I know you're not supposed to watch tv while on vacation, but, we always turned it on while we were getting showered and dressed for dinner). Each room also has a patio or balcony with a hammock. Note: The rooms that are on the bottom floor only have 1 chair on the patio, while the upper rooms have 2 chairs on the balcony. Also, one lady who had a bottom floor room felt like she was in a fish bowl cause of the ability for people to look into her room via the window.

THE GROUNDS
The grounds were beautiful. Every day there were numerous gardeners and maintenance men pruning and fixing and cleaning all day long. There are tons of iguanas and geckos, as well as some flamingos, peacocks and parrots on the grounds.

THE FOOD
The buffet was absolutely amazing. Never have I been to an all inclusive that tasted so good! Breakfast tended to be the same choices every day, but there are plenty of choices. At lunch, the main buffet is closed and you eat from one of the a la cartes, that turn into buffets for lunch. The pool buffet is much better than the mexican buffet. Supper you can eat at the buffet, the Mexican or the Steakhouse. I highly, highly recommend the Steakhouse. It was good service and very good food. I had the ribs, and the meat just fell off the bone and melted in your mouth. Hubby got the tenderloin steak and enjoyed it as well. The Mexican left alot to be desired. Not much menu choices and just kinda boring all around...both ambience and taste. You also have the option of the buffet, which again, was really good with lots of choice at supper time.

TOURS
Hubby went on Scuba Dive. Decided to go with Dive with Martin because Dressel Divers (dive shop at resort) really packs their boats like sardines. Also, Dive with Martin prices include rental gear, Dressel charges addtl $15 for equipment. Dive was very enjoyable and the visibility was amazing. Also, went on catamaran snorkel tour with Manta. On return to resort, found a large group of dolphins which swam along the catamaran...very cool! Highly recommend this tour as well.

ACTIVITIES
The resort offers various activities throughout the day. Such things as water games (volleyball, polo, basketball) aerobics (water and land), spanish lessons, archery, yoga...and a whole bunch more. Some you even get a t-shirt as a prize if you win. Everything is organized by the Star Friends, who all speak good english and love to have fun!

ENTERTAINMENT
The nightly entertainment was pretty boring. It was quite repetitive, so after you'd watched the show for about 10 minutes, you could leave and not really feel that you missed anything. They try hard, but I wouldn't even say that it's typical resort entertainment...usually I enjoy the nightly entertainment...here we even skipped it a couple of nights. :(

WATERSPORTS
They offer such things are the resort as catamaran, snorkelling, kayaks...while they are "free" to borrow, you do actually have to pay $2 per day to pay a Marina Park fee.

SUMMARY
We had an awesome time at the Iberostar Cozumel. We highly recommend this resort and would definitely go back. We didn't have any troubles with flies or sand fleas at night, as some people have reported. At the end of our trip I said something that I've never said before...that I would return! I've always had the attitude of "it was great but there are so many different places to go why go to the same place." Well, I've changed...this place was so great that I would go there again.

Well another perfect Iberostar Cozumel Vacation!
Love the Iberostar!
The grounds , pool, food, the beach was groomed every morning and as always the friendliest people trying to please you in anyway they can! So many good things to say about this place, I dont want to stay anyplace else when i go to Cozumel.
The dive spots are only 5 minutes max by boat from the hotel. Dressel Divers have some new divemasters that were the best! and i mean the best! Debra and Fernando. I would hire them privately! We dove 12 tanks from this hotel .
The hotel is a few miles from town but its worth the drive. I cant find a better place to stay when i dive Cozumel.
I can think of only one negative, The beds need changed to hard!
We will be back next Carnivale but staying for 9 nights!
If anyone has questions before you book a hotel in Cozumel shoot me an email I have been to alot of the so called luxury hotels or all inclusives in Mexico. Occidental has nothing on Iberostar!!!

  • Liked — Clean rooms, Great food, Beautiful grounds,Wonderful staff, Great location for diving, Nice pool, etc, etc
  • Disliked — The hard king size beds were hard need replaced!

My husband and I stayed at the Iberostar Cozumel on January 19-26. It was beautiful! We arrived to Mexico and our luggage was lost at the airport, which was not making us happy. We went to the resort and told the hotel staff about our luggage and we got our luggage a couple of hours later. They were very helpful. Our room was not ready when we got there, so we went and had some lunch in the Mexican restaurant, I don't recommend it. Our room was ready 30 min later. Our room was beautiful and very clean. The maid is very good and cleaning the room. Leave her a tip and get a neat towel animal everyday! The rooms did keep our stuff a little damp but it drys off outside. The food in most of the restaurants on the resort was very good. Sometimes cold but the staff will heat it up for you. The entertainment at night with the Star Friends was so nice. They are very talented people who work very hard at what they do. There is so many wildlife to see on the resort, like parrots and a ton of Iguanas, Peacocks, flamingos. The pools are wonderful and you are so close to the beach. Staff is always refilling your drinks. My husband just loved the pool bar. The bartenders make awesome drinks. Tips are a little overwhelming, everyone wanted tips, so plan to tip. Overall our vacation was very nice and would recommend this hotel to anyone. We had a great time and would love to come back! Check out our pics!

Would like to share my experience at this resort.First off this is a very beautiful resort with lovely grounds. The beach is not great & swimming in the ocean with the coral is dangerous. Someone in our party stepped on a stingray close to shore & was severely stung on the foot right through his water shoes. He was in much pain for the rest of his vacation. Others were stung by Jelly fish..so not the perfect spot for ocean front activities. There are flies around at sunset which bite like mosquitos and cause much itching & discomfort. People upon returning home has to get strong medication for them. The sidewalks were very slippery when wet as well as all the restaurant floors, lobby etc. Many people fell some more serious than others. I was one that fell & broke my arm. We got ice for it from the bar in the lobby & then had the customer service rep. call a doctor for me to go see. We got excellent care in San Miguel Hospital but the management at the resort did not even acknowledge the fall. The day before we were leaving (6 days later)the General Manager finally said he had just been told about it, which of course would not be true as his staff knew immediately. Basically you are on your own there. The food was very good in the buffet & excellent in the Steak House.

  • Liked — For an all inclusive the food was ver good
  • Disliked — The slippery floors, small old rooms, biting insects & poor ocean front swimming

We travelled to the Iberostar in Cozumel on January 5th, 2008 with 52 family and friends for my sons wedding on the 11th. Everyone was very impressed with the resort. It was incredibly beautiful. Despite our numbers we were checked in quickly. The buffet restaurant was the best I've ever been to in Mexico. There were an abundance of choices and from the most simple foods to beautifully prepared specialties. The resort was very clean and the staff was most helpful. We had two age groups with us, 20-25 and 40-75, everyone had a great time. The beds are hard, as others report, but never had any trouble sleeping. The gym is well appointed and was used by several members of our group. The Steakhouse restaurant was very good, the Mexican restaurant was good but a bit stuffy. We never ate at the Star Rock Cafe. The nightime entertainment is typical of other resorts and was lots of fun. The younger crowd made good use of the disco, despite its small size. My son's wedding was absolutely wonderful. The wedding coordinator did an excellent job. We started our correspondance about 6 months before the wedding and exchanged many e-mails and pictures. The wedding turned out to be more than any of us could have imagined. We had a beautifully decorated sandy beach, and a romantic ceremony at 4pm. After champagne and pictures with a beautiful sunset, we had a private dinner at the open air Steakhouse restaurant. We had the restaurant from 6:30 unti 10pm. We had a delicious dinner, speeches, cake and dancing all in the privacy of the restaurant. Staff were vigilant about keeping other guests out of our party. After 10pm, those who still wanted to party headed to the disco to continue the fun. It really was a dream wedding and I would highly recommend this resort.

  • Liked — Not too large a resort with a very Mexican flavour.
  • Disliked — Too many smokers!
