My family and I and another couple and their children went to the Iberostar in Cozumel July 25-August 1. Our children range in age from 4 through 8. I can honestly say that this was the best vacation that I have had as an adult. First of all I was hesitant to go (I hate to fly). I was looking much more forward to going to Florida in our own vehicle. Had we done that, I would have missed out on a very special time with my family. When we arrived at the airport, Florida was looking even better. The humidity about knocked me over. Once we got to the resort I never thought of Florida again. My girls loved the staff, especially Nattie, Luis and Felix. I had read that there was a kid's program. I would never consider leaving my kids with people I don't know, much less in another country. However, by the end of our stay, I would not have hesitated leaving them in the care of Nattie. She is awesome. So if you have children and are hesitant don't worry. They post a schedule of activities and you can check on them at any time. They have a blast.Concerning the resort, the rooms are small, but were adequate for the four of us. Take your own hair dryer if drying your hair is a priority. Theirs are a little slow to do the job. Take 2-3 swimming suits as things don't dry out easily in the humidity. There are alot a very large frogs and iguanas on the grounds (which we loved). My youngest daughter always had a baby frog, lizard or hermit crab in her little hand. The food was wonderful. There was always quite a variety at the main buffet. I have two very picky eaters and they could always find something that they would eat. That's amazing. The tropical drinks were wonderful. What's even better is you don't have to worry about paying for them. That makes it easier to try new ones out.
You can lounge at the pool or on the beach and the waiters will take care of you.Speaking of beach, WEAR WATER SHOES. It is very rocky there. We had read reviews so we all had water shoes. The water was wonderful. There were quite alot of fish to see right there at the resort. We scheduled a couple of trips that took us away from the resort. We will not do that when we go back. The week flew by and there were plenty of events scheduled right there at the resort to keep us happy. The water volleyball, polo, aerobics, Spanish lessons, bingo etc. are fun. If you get a chance, they have a huge water balloon fight in the pool, participate. It is really fun. There are little pieces of paper in some of the balloons. If you find one break it and keep the paper. Each piece of paper can be redeemed for a prize. I can not say enough how wonderful Nattie and Luis and the rest of the staff are.
They are really personable and knew our children by name. In the evening, before the main show, there is a childrens mini disco. The kids really have fun and get to interact with the entertainers. The first couple of nights we had front row seats. As the week went on, the crowds grew and it was a little more difficult to get front row seats.
My children befriended some other children who had front row seats and sat with them in their chairs. We now have new friends from Mexico City and North Carolina. So not only is the staff wonderful but the atmosphere at the shows makes it easy to meet new people.I can not believe that anyone would have a bad review for this resort. Some of the things that they have been complaining about are petty. They need to go to a very popular theme park here in the U.S. for a reality check!!!! If you are looking for the perfect trip do not hesitate to stay at the Iberostar in Cozumel. It can be a relaxing trip, a fun filled trip, whatever you want it to be. For us it was like a dream.
This was the first time I can ever say that my kids and I totally enjoyed each other's company. Work did not enter my mind once. This was like a paradise. The only bad experience that you should prepare for is returning home to reality. There is always that let down after vacation but this time we haven't been able to stop talking about how we wish we were still there and how much we miss everyone. We can only hope that we will get the chance to return soon.

My husband and I just returned-Aug 13 thru the 20th. We enjoyed every minute of the trip. Room 1102 and 1103 are as close to the beach as you can get. Beautiful settings. The air wasn't working when we arrived and they worked very hard to get it going, even had to send for someone from Cancun to fix it. Our phone card didn't work calling out so didn't even go there. The staff is very hard working and happy, they only get one day off and work extremely long hours. Housekeepers get $5. a day.
Bartenders make alot, are like executives in the U.S. However, we tipped everyone. They were the kindest people. The main resturant has changed its hours, no longer serves lunch, but that may be for the fall time, don't know. So lunch is at the cafe at the pool, which has lots of food and very good food. Don't know why but we heard complaints about the food and weren't sure how anyone couldn't be pleased. Lots of new dishes to try out and they also tried to please the Americans with burgers and pizza and french fries. But there is no food between 4 and 6. Only hotdogs at the pool and icecream at the swim up bar. So if your plane gets in around 3 and you haven't eaten since 9 am like us then you better head for the cafe first before unpacking. The Mexican resturant was okay and so was the Steak place but the main resturant was our favorite. Always choices of steaks for them to grill for you and omlettes in the morning. Try the Coffee in the evening they make it special at a table at the entrance of the resturant, very good. Also if you like bananas try the Dirty Monkey, great drink!!!!!!! We went with Apple Vacations and Roberta at the resort was great, helped with everything and anything, something you needed in the room, she got it.
Yes it was hot and humid in Aug. Yes there are insects and lots of lizards. But how beautiful the setting was!!!!!!!!!!!! No clock in the room so pack a watch. Hair dryer is for thin hair, so pack a hair dryer if your hair takes forever to dry. Coffee in the morning is only at the main resturant up at the lobby, so its a good hike in the morning. But you eat all day so you really need the exercise. Snorkling was fun, went out to the reefs. My husband did a night snorkle, with flash lights on the reefs, guess it was quite exciting. The dive shop there is great. Yes rooms are small, but we weren't in them much. Pool was great and so was the beach. You can walk for miles if you so desire. We rented a car and went around the island, weren't impressed with that and it was expensive with insurance. Overall our stay was great- took pictures of all our new found friends at the Iberostar resort. Didn't go with the kids so don't know how they would of liked it, but for us 50 year olds it was great. Night life probably would of been boring for the 25 and 28 year olds. But hey we were in bed by the time they would of started partying. Oh and we had no problem with our locks and we put all money and cards in the safe.

My husband and I just returned from our stay at Iberostar, Cozumel yesterday. We had a really great time, the pool was nice and the beach was perfect. We especially loved being up in the shade of the trees but still having an unbelievable view of the ocean, you could take a nap out there it was so relaxing. The rooms are just right to me, not huge but not too small. There is a problem w/the water running out of the shower and all over the bathroom floor, you just need to make sure the showerhead isn't pointed towards the door. I really liked the fact of having a safe in the room, but it is kinda small. You definitely get your excercise each day w/all the walking. we were way in the back near the pool, so walking to the front three times a day to eat was a little tiresome, but hey we got some exercise. Our phone broke twice. the first time it broke we reported it that night, then again the next day and it was fixed that night. The next time it broke we didn't even bother reporting it, we used a phone in the lobby. Make sure you buy a prepaid calling card from home before you leave if you plan on making numerous calls. We forgot and had to buy one there, $11 for 12 minutes, and plus everytime you make a 1-800 call you're billed $3 to your room.
We liked seeing the different wildlife, never had anything come in our room that we knew of. We rented a car and went into town one day and in the evening ate at Pepe's Bar & Grill, very nice. Also thought the souvenier shop in the lobby's prices were reasonable, they had a good selection and just about the same prices that were in town, but they don't have prepaid calling cards. Just a few things here and there we could've done with out, but all in all a lovely place and very nice staff. Also the snorkeling off the beach is great, beautiful fish, and it's free!

Most of these reviews do a great job of telling about the Iberostar Cozumel. The rooms are not the high point of this resort, but we truly enjoyed the staff, the food, the drinks :) and the facilities. Please do remember to TIP the staff. I have no idea how much they get paid, but I do know a large percentage of their income is from tips. Remember folks, this is a tropical island off the coast of Mexico. Everything will not always run as smoothly as the US, but staying at the Iberostar Cozumel was a very relaxing experience. Our visit was Aug 11-15, 2003.
My husband and I were joined by our 7 and 4 year old sons. There was an excellent mix of young people, families, and older couples. After a day or so, you can actually feel yourself slow down and enjoy. Hope you have fun too!
