My husband and I just returned from our stay at Iberostar, Cozumel yesterday. We had a really great time, the pool was nice and the beach was perfect. We especially loved being up in the shade of the trees but still having an unbelievable view of the ocean, you could take a nap out there it was so relaxing. The rooms are just right to me, not huge but not too small. There is a problem w/the water running out of the shower and all over the bathroom floor, you just need to make sure the showerhead isn't pointed towards the door. I really liked the fact of having a safe in the room, but it is kinda small. You definitely get your excercise each day w/all the walking. we were way in the back near the pool, so walking to the front three times a day to eat was a little tiresome, but hey we got some exercise. Our phone broke twice. the first time it broke we reported it that night, then again the next day and it was fixed that night. The next time it broke we didn't even bother reporting it, we used a phone in the lobby. Make sure you buy a prepaid calling card from home before you leave if you plan on making numerous calls. We forgot and had to buy one there, $11 for 12 minutes, and plus everytime you make a 1-800 call you're billed $3 to your room.
We liked seeing the different wildlife, never had anything come in our room that we knew of. We rented a car and went into town one day and in the evening ate at Pepe's Bar & Grill, very nice. Also thought the souvenier shop in the lobby's prices were reasonable, they had a good selection and just about the same prices that were in town, but they don't have prepaid calling cards. Just a few things here and there we could've done with out, but all in all a lovely place and very nice staff. Also the snorkeling off the beach is great, beautiful fish, and it's free!

Most of these reviews do a great job of telling about the Iberostar Cozumel. The rooms are not the high point of this resort, but we truly enjoyed the staff, the food, the drinks :) and the facilities. Please do remember to TIP the staff. I have no idea how much they get paid, but I do know a large percentage of their income is from tips. Remember folks, this is a tropical island off the coast of Mexico. Everything will not always run as smoothly as the US, but staying at the Iberostar Cozumel was a very relaxing experience. Our visit was Aug 11-15, 2003.
My husband and I were joined by our 7 and 4 year old sons. There was an excellent mix of young people, families, and older couples. After a day or so, you can actually feel yourself slow down and enjoy. Hope you have fun too!

My family and I just returned yesterday 08/15/03 from the Iberostar Cozumel. We stayed 7 days and really did enjoy it overall. This was our third stay at an Iberostar resort. Comparing this stay to the other stays on a scale from 1 to 10, 10 being the best I would rate this a 6.
There were things that we liked and also things that we didn't like about each resort, but at the Cozumel location there were more items that were inadequate than at the others.

The service and the people are top notch at each location. They are very attentive and very kind. The rooms are very small and very dated in comparison to the other location. There are problems with the entries to the rooms. The doors to the rooms would not lock appropriately. I do recommend that you not bring any valuables that will not fit into your safe. This was a problem with our room, and I had to call the front desk numerous times before someone came to look at it. It still was not remedied. This did make our stay a little less uncomfortable because we were constantly concerned that someone might get into our room while we were not there.

The space in our room was very limited and was half the size of the rooms at the Quetzal/Tucan and Paraiso in Playa del Carmen. The were very dated, but were still O.K. I happened to not mind the"hut" feel of the room, and thought it was really neat to come in and have a lizard run out. The wildlife does not bother you at all, and it is supposed to be a part of "natural environment". If this sort of thing would bother you, stay on the lower level of the 2 story huts.

The pool was also very small in comparison to the other resorts, and I did not like the fact that they kick you out of the pool at 8:00 p.m.
When your on vacation I feel that you should have access the pool 24 hours if you like.

I also did not appreciate the fact that my children could not accompany me to the disco after the main show in the evenings. I can understand that the staff may have encountered problems in the past with children being present in the disco and alcohol being served to minors and their behavior deteriorated due to that fact. I feel that the hotel has the responsibility to educate and put policies in place for the staff to control this issue. A better solution would be to not allow minor children into the club without their parents present at all times, have a guard posted inside the club and a guard posted outside the club to monitor the actions inside the club at all times. I also feel that if it important to keep children under the age of 18 out of the disco that staff should be required to see proof of age from all guests before the bracelets are given to the guests. There were many children under 18 that had the adult bacelets on.

The food was mediocre as it is at most of the resorts in Mexico. I was very pleased that everything at this resort was very convenient to our room, and all of the rooms in general. The other 2 resorts I felt were entirely too large and you had walk great distances to everything. I did like the rooms, the sizes of the pools, and the security of the rooms at the other locations alot better. I was more confident in the abilities and competency of the staff at the other 2 locations. I do not feel the Cozumel location is great enough to receive a 5 star rating, I feel that until the resort is updated a little the rating should be lowered as I am sure that it was 5 star material at one time.
We did have a wonderful time overall. The biggest reason this location is popular is clearly only because of the diving. I would have to stay that my absolute favorite location is the Iberostar Quetzal/Tucan in Playa del Carmen, my second favorite is the Iberostar Paraiso in Playa and my least favorite is the Iberostar Cozumel. If it were the diving that I wanted out of my entire trip I would be willing to stay at the Quetzal and ferry over to the island to scuba.

My husband and I spent a week at the Iberostar, Cozumel in Febuary of 2003. The staff are very pleasant and helpful, the grounds are maintained beautifully and everything you could want is accessable. We felt safe and secure at all times and due to the enthusiasm of the activity directers made new friends and were entertained every night.
The food is 5 star and the restuarant service was awesome even if you aren't a big tipper. The maid service was right on and when we found out that these maids only make approx. 9$ US per day we would leave a few peso's and found that there were always extra water and beer in the fridge. Considering how much better standard of living we Americans/Canadians have compared to most Mexicans, we felt warmly received and well taken care of. The only thing I found hard to cope with occasionally is that the hotel has its own septic system and depending on which way the breeze was blowing you got a whiff every now and then!! But I'd rather they have a lagoon then pump our refuse into the ocean! You have to keep in mind that you are on a tropical island, you are going to see tree frogs and lizards and Iguana's adding to the ambience. All in all we were treated wonderfully there. And definately would go back.
