Just returned from 4 nights in the HSM's Magnolia Suite (2nd flr; 1 qn bed /1 single bed). Hmmm...how to reconcile peace of courtyard garden, convenient-yet-quiet charm of location, tasty brkfst brought to room each morning with a little card bearing inspirational quote and daily forecast, talavera lamps and bath sink, solid wood furniture, cold frig and a/c untis, cable tv and hairdryer with (UGH) horrible overhead flourescent lights, the worst board-like mattresses i have ever had in a hotel, ratty ugly linens and moody desk help? The bed situation was truly grim- a honeymooning couple would be in serious pain, if you get my drift. Staff would be charming and helpful one day, and dismissive the next, as if they did not know who you were after 3 days of occupancy. Made a face when I asked to check out at 12:45 instead of noon (and this after we waited for OUR room to be ready on time). The pity is that with a bit of upgrades in the easy area of decor, the charm quotient could go way up. I wish that i had peeked in other rooms, as occupants sat on their porches and smiled hello. Clientele was very nice- quiet adults. If i were to go back, a possibility due to price and location, i would demand a better bed (or bring an eggshell foam topper!).
