“My second stay at Blue Angel”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2014

I just got home from Cozumel and already miss it.

Amazing staff at the hotel, restaurant and the dive shop. Clean room, great people (mostly divers) around, great food and one of the best places in the world for diving. Would you ask for more to recharge your batteries?

Highly recommended.

The snorkeling just feet away from the resort was amazing! We saw lobsters, crabs, manatees, and so many colorful fish. The resort is right next to the 'swim with the manta rays' attraction, so you are able to swim around their fenced enclosure. For some reason a lot of beautiful fish on the outside are attracted to that fence, so it becomes very fun to explore! With the snorkeling so safe and convenient, we usually went in twice per day. There is an outdoor shower and a place to rinse off your gear. Sitting near the water under the palapas, watching the crabs scuttle by was amazing.

We found the open air lobby to be a very nice place to hang out & play our games, while watching the ocean. The restaurant is also open air and directly above the ocean -- incredible location! We appreciated having breakfast included in the price of our room. I usually had Mexican entrees each morning, and the food was good and plenty enough. Down the hall from our room, or in the lobby, they have water coolers with purified water >> we filled up our large water bottles several times a day and took them everywhere with us. This cold water was a huge asset!

The big down-side to this resort is the guest rooms; definitely a taste of Old Mexico. There are many signs in the bathroom that tell you to not put toilet paper down the toilet, it must go into the trash can. I understand there are many places in Mexico that are like this, but the other Mexican hotels I've stayed in have better plumbing systems that can handle TP. The beds were less than comfortable. There were two straight back chairs, but they were not comfortable enough to enjoy sitting and reading in. The lighting in the room was not good for reading either. We had major problems with ants. If you have ANY food that is not totally sealed up (they can even get into ziploc bags), be sure to put it in the mini-fridge, or you will be inundated with ants. On the positive side, the air conditioning worked well, the power never went out, the outlets did not need adapters for US appliances. The view of the ocean & having your own deck were quite wonderful. We also enjoyed being in a hotel in which most everyone was interested in snorkeling or diving.

This resort is between the two major tourist areas, where the cruise ships come in. Since I have bad knees we never walked the entire way to either of those areas. But we were still able to find great restaurants within easy walking distance. We loved eating where the locals did, and the prices in those locations was very reasonable.

The staff at Blue Angel were pleasant and very helpful.

If you enjoy snorkeling, we would highly suggest going over to the mainland to Xel-Ha >> definitely one of the most fun things we have ever done! I have written an extensive review on that.

In Cozumel you can get away with using US dollars. They say the exchange rate might not be as good, but we were quite pleased with how it worked for us. Although I speak a little Spanish, this was the easiest place I have seen in Mexico for a non-Spanish speaking tourist to go. The entire island is built around tourism -- so the local families make sure you feel welcome & safe. We found they were glad to see us & anxious to help you in any way they could. If you would like to strike up an interesting conversation, ask a local if they went through Hurricane Wilma in 2005. The locals will appreciate your interest.

The Blue Angel Resort is a wonderful place to stay. It is a short taxi ride from the Playa Del Carmen ferry pier. It is clean, comfortable and has a very warm and courteous staff. Everyone that works there is fantastic and friendly. The food and drinks are delicious, which can be enjoyed while perched over an ocean view with a cool breeze. I did not dive here, but I did snorkel from their pier and lounge by the pool in the evenings. Thank you Blue Angel!

Room Tip: All of the rooms are ocean view with a patio. There are four stories.

After a short taxi ride from the ferry terminal at San Miguel, we arrived at the Blue Angel resort with a warm welcome by the reception staff. Our first impression was that the staff were knowledgeable, friendly and I’m glad to say that this was a lasting impression throughout our stay. Our room was a decent size, very clean and we had a great view of the ocean. Hearty breakfast was included in the room rate. From bacon and eggs to pancakes and fruit. Plenty of choice to have a different breakfast each day. We loved the restaurant which served a great selection of Mexican and International cuisine. We ate there every night and the food was excellent not to mention their margaritas and tequilas. Live acoustic music was provided every evening. The musicians were excellent and the chilled out music was a wonderful accompaniment to the fine food and ocean view. Being keen scuba divers, one of our main reasons for booking with Blue Angel was its diving facilities. We went diving on most days and were well looked after by very experienced, very capable and funny staff who took us to some of Cozumel’s most spectacular sites during the course of our stay.We didn't want to leave this place. It is the atmosphere of the place, friendly and attentive staff in the restaurant and diving shop, funny dive masters and smiling house-keeping and front desk staff who made our stay a very memorable one. We had a wonderful stay and will definitely return hopefully in not to distant future.

Our trip was for nine divers for three nights and two days of diving. We had four rooms on the first floor close to the dock and pool. The rooms are spacious with a patio where you can dry gear. The resort is on the beach with a spectacular view of the ocean.
We had a private boat with two dive masters who were excellent, Tony and Jose. The boat was large and had a head there is also very good beach diving!
The resort staff is also wonderful, especially Witt, who handled our package arrangements. The location is good, not far from town, a sis dollar cab ride. Thus is the perfect place for divers who want great service, nice facilities at a budget price.
The restaurant was very good and had happy hour every day from 4-630, with half price drinks and appetizers. There was also live music and beautiful sunsets! Breakfast from the menu was included (not a buffet).
I really loved this place and will tell all my diver friends about it!

Big rooms, warm blankets, nice people, very clean! We couldn't ask for a more comfortable place to stay for a week of diving! Seriously warm blankets in a warm climate? Absolutely necessary when my spouse gets to control the air conditioner!! We will be back and in the mean time I will be raving about how well I slept and how the staff were so kind and accommodating.

We loved everything about the room, from the mosaic seahorse on the concrete floor to the orange curtains, which gave a beautiful, romantic glow to the room. The housekeeper was so sweet and the front desk was always helpful. The weather was not favorable when we were there due to an "el norte" - this was during thanksgiving break 2013, but the guys in the dive shop did everything they could to help us, even calling across to Playa del Carmen to see if we could dive there (which we did- Bull Shark diving!!!) But we only got to dive off Coz one morning, so we have unfinished business there. We can't wait to return!

Room Tip: Ask for a high floor! The view is lovely.
