We had a great couple of days at the Flamingo, a neat little boutique type hotel in the heart of San Miguel. Short walk to the ferry station and all points downtown as well as easy access to taxis for other areas ......clean, spacious room with excellent air conditioning was a welcome relief from the heat. The wireless internet was a great way for us to stay connected with family in the states. The best part of our stay was the friendly and personal attention from the entire staff, from the front desk ladies, to our new buddy Ivan at the bar, to the owner of the property itself....they really made my son and I feel at home....and the fishing charter they booked for us worked out like a champ...

Do not believe this website. It is a 15 minute DRIVE to the beach... not walking. There are no blowdryers or mosquito nets in the rooms. There was no safe to lock our belongings in. The complimentary breakfast is 1.5 pieces of bread with some cut up fruit.
The best part of this hotel was the formations the maid folded our towels into - swans, elephants, flowers, and hearts.
Had the hotel been advertised as a safe, comfortable hostel, then I would have been delighted... but as a luxurious escape? No.
If you do stay, tip Elizabeth and Ivan. They were delightful despite the false advertising.

I think what we have here is a young person who wanted to stay at a luxury resort on the beach on a very tight budget. We promote ourselves as a unique boutique hotel located downtown, a half block from the waterfront. Our room rates are reasonable. We have very good staff and a full service hotel with a restaurant and bar. We do have rooms that have safes, blowdryers, and mosquito nets in them, but there are 5 of them and you pay a little more for these rooms. If it was an issue at the time and they brought it up, we would have been glad to upgrade them to one of these rooms. We are always open to doing whatever it takes to make the customer happy. There are beaches that are 5 mintues away by taxi up in the north, that is a fact. I think they should be realistic in their expecatations and if the luxury resort on the beach is what they want, they need to book this and pay more.

My wife and I found the hotel staff very nice and helpful. Being a couple of minutes walk from town restaurants, bars, stores, and the main street where we could hail a taxi allowed us more time to enjoy the people and culture of San Miguel. Having traveled extensively throughout Africa and Asia, we understand the value of a good night's sleep. It was nice to be able to retire to our room, turn on the AC, and rest peacefully. Hurricane Wilma caused considerable damage to the coral reefs, buildings, and tourism. As a result, the hotel manager indicated that they are still in the process of replacing hotel furnishings, including mattresses. As a result, our room had one excellent mattress and one in terrible condition.

My wife and I decided to fly back to Mexico for 9 days with our backpacks and travel around to various cities on the Yucatan. After doing some research and looking at this hotels web site we decided to reserve rooms there. Specifically a room with a queen bed and assumed that it looked like the pictures on the internet...in fact after looking closer at the pictures on the internet I believe I stayed in the exact room - just it was definately not like the pictures. As well this was no queen bed, it was a pretty uncomfortable double.

I showed the receptionist that the pictures on the web site clearly didn't match the hotel at all, and being they had no queen beds in the entire hotel, obviously it is misleading. Regardless she would not figure out how to not charge me money since I made the reservation online. I send fine, I will stay one night but I am giving you 24hr notice so do not charge me for tomorrow since I will check out. I was told I could talk to a manager on Thursday, it was Monday.

Checking my statement when I returned from Mexico, I see that I was charged for 2 nights, even though I stayed once.

Anyways, the hotel is acceptable - however there are many other options that are not nearly as misleading in Cozumel.

If you stay here, be aware that you will get a very much economy hotel with a double bed. I included some pictures just so it was more clear of what the place is like. The place is acceptable however just don't be fooled by their advertising, and don't use their website to book ahead.

There was a mistake and the guest was put in a room that had been closed off for repairs. The hotel was booked and unfortunately was not around on those days. We do have 5 rooms that have queen beds, but these were all occupied. These appear on our web site. In the unlikely event of an overbooking, we put the guest in a comparable hotel. This is how it should have been handled, but the person we had at the front desk was new and instead put in a closed room with out explaining the situation properly. We would not charge for the nights, but this is how expedia handles it.
