We were in Cozumel for more diving again this year in early April. We met Tom, the owner of this hotel on our dive boat - Sergio Sandoval's Aquatic Sports. (We stay at hotel El Presidente....).
Tom told us about his new chef and his efforts at getting some interesting dining happening at the hotel - so we thought we'd check it out. What a lovely evening we had!! His new chef is from Chile and they are offering some very good and creative dishes. We began with the Japanese ceviche - with soy and ginger. We then had the grilled lobster and a spicy coconut infused medley of seafood - all really excellent!
The dining area is adjacent to the bar/lounge. By about 10PM live Cuban music began - which was hard to resist! We aren't much into "night life" anymore, but the feeling in the room was "local," social, and FUN!
We cannot speak about the rooms at The Flamingo, having not seen them. But the reviews here speak positively - and we *can* tell you that Tom is "good people" and will certainly do whatever he can to make your stay enjoyable. Let him know what you want!! We can also tell you that he uses what is, to our mind, the best dive operator on the island: a small boat operator taking small groups out diving - one trip per day. None of the usual back-by-noon-no-matter-what "cattle car" so typical on the island.
So, all in all, we would definitely recommend The Flamingo....
