We just got back from 5 wonderfully relaxing days at Club Cozumel Caribe. We rented a nicely furnished 2 bedroom condo on the 10th floor with GORGEOUS OCEAN VIEWS and every amenity we would want (#1053). From the inside, all our needs were met -- the staff were friendly and responsive, and the property was clean, comfortable, pleasantly decorated, and quiet. The fridge, microwave, and all kitchen wear were new and worked great.
I do agree with the others that the balcony is not safe for kids (or adults who have been drinking). If your kids are too young to listen and stay off the balcony, this isn't the condo for you (the sliding doors do lock). My daughter is 8 and it was no problem at all, if she was out there, she was sitting with us.
The shocker was driving up to the property -- we were not prepared for construction zone adjacent to the hotel or the overall condition of the property. The bottom floors have a handful of full-time apartment residents, and the top (2?) floors are luxury condos -- in the middle, the place is a wreck! Broken windows, exposed construction, total disrepair. That said -- once inside, all was very comfortable, extremely clean and nicely furnished. (We will come back for sure.)
The two pools are small by US standards, but since there aren't many people staying on the property, we had it all to ourselves. The beach club had wonderful food -- on the expensive side for the island -- but worth it for the quality and view.
The snorkeling was superb right out in front of the property. They have made an artificial reef inside protected buoys and thousands of colorful fish call it home. It was an easy 10-15 minute snorkel run from one side of the property to the other. You can rent snorkel gear on site ($4) -- Pancho and his team were very helpful. My 8 yr old loved it as much as we did. The current was a bit rough and made it a tad difficult getting out on the beach on one day, but we managed. We also enjoyed walking north of the property to collect shells. You will see some abandoned properties and some under repair from Wilma -- others, like Club Melia, are fully rehabbed and populated. There are large stretches of sandy beaches north of the property -- when we were there, the current was not safe for kids.
We didn't rent a car and never needed one for our short stay (5 days). It's just a $6 cab ride to town and cabs run up and down the main road all the time. We even walked to town one day (about 50 minutes). The San Francisco supermarket is on the north side of town and has all the essentials (breakfast, beer, fruit, etc.). Cafe' Dennis (go to their back patio) was our favorite local Mexican restaurant ($30 for 3), and I recommend Poncho's Backyard for more upscale dining ($65 for 3).
Bottom line, don’t judge this book by its cover. If you want a quiet getaway with beautiful views and instant access to snorkeling – you will love the condos at Club Cozumel Caribe.
