We are a group of 4 new to scuba diving and all met up for a 7 night stay in Cozumel to dive from April 25th through May 02,2007. We selected this hotel based on reviews we found here and would like to add our own. We found a great rate on this hotel and thought we would give it a chance. Now we can't wait to go back. 2 of us stayed with the basic room for the great price. It was a nice stroll through the beautiful gardens in the far back. 2 double beds and plenty of room. Understand this back unit has no glass windows on the rooms, simple screens with wooden type shutters. closed it kept the room at a nice temperature with the air conditioner. The bathroom had a large tiled shower and you had to wait awhile for the hot water to reach back there. Our other friends paid the $15 per night for an upgrade. it was located on the second floor with a nice little balcony over looking the pool and beach area. It was a very large room with a living room setting as well as a bedroom. We found the staff to be helpful and friendly at all times, and arranged for a rental car for us for a day trip. The grounds are beautiful, from the tennis court to the gardens to the pool area. We loved having Papa Hogs next door for afternoon meals and great happy hour deals. We then would take advantage of the having the entire hot tub all to ourselves. Since there were 4 of us, the $4 dollar cab ride from town and back was not an issue. We loved heading to town each night for a nice dinner. We loved Casa Denis found near the town square, we ate there 3 evenings. Give it a try, you will love it too.

If you want a nice hotel placed just far enough from all the traffic of town but right across the street from the beach and don't expect nothing fancy, than you have found the place.

  • Liked — price and location for scuba diving trips

After a lot of research we decided to book the first part of our vacation at Villa Blanca. It had been recommended by Papa Hog's Dive Shop which is right across the street from the hotel.
Villa Blanca's service was excellent - rooms made up before we returned in the afternoon for happy hour at the Papa Hog's restaurant 2:00 - 4:00 pm 2 for one beers and margueritas. We originally booked for 2 people and needed to upgrade to accommodate our son. We didn't mind at $12.00 per night because it was worth it. The room was very spacious - the king size bed was firm and we had lots of pillows. I know people have complained about how worn the comforters are. Big deal - how much time do you spend in your room anyways. Or go to the giant grocery store/department store down the road and buy a $20.00 comforter and leave it there. Our suite was adjacent to the pool. It was very quiet at this villa because they don't have 1,000 rooms like those giant resorts. Nicely landscaped with lots of shade from the sun. Big bathroom and big shower. Lots of people complain about no water pressure. You have to remember where you are - on an island. The water pressure is good but not like the Marriott because it isn't the Marriott. You can get a safety deposit box in the lobby for the reasonable price of $5.00 for your entire stay.

One thing we really liked about the Villa Blanca is the location. Across the street from Papa Hogs. Very good snorkelling trips available. Within walking distance to Ernesto's restaurant which has the best guacamole in town (a little more expensive but you get tons and it is awesome!) Best fajitas and incredible staff.

Across the street from Ernesto's is a resort that has a great breakfast buffet for $7.00. I would not recommend the restaurant at Villa Blanca only because it is way too expensive - Coffee $2.00 example.

We will definitely go back to Villa Blanca.

Luggage was lost for two days, so lost out on dive days (we will never forget to pack our contacts in the carry on again). Snorkeling gear and sunglasses stolen from our luggage when we finally got it from customs.
Went to Chedraui (which we dubbed "Mexican Target") for bathing suits and toiletries.
Shampoo and soap at hotel were harsh and sticky. Breakfast and dinner at restaurant were okay. Had a great lunch there though.
Linens were haggard, but clean. Pool was too cold. Air conditioner worked but was super loud. Fan was spastic, try level 5. We did see a tarantula on the first floor hallway wall. Lots of geckos on the hallway ceilings at night too. Gardens were really pretty.
Spent most of our time at Fiesta Americana hotel (our friends stayed there). Had a better beach and good all-inclusive day pass plan (35$/day -til 5pm). Saw lots of fish snorkeling there, but the water was rough. Would recommend staying there instead. They gave our friends extra toiletries since the luggage was missing. When I asked for toothbrush/paste at VBlanca, they looked at me like I was from space.
Villablanca is good if you just want a place to sleep and dive and save money.

We just returned from 10 days at the Villablanca. The service was incredible. The people who work at the hotel are very nice and helpful. They helped us book a car and a couple of day trips. We highly recommend using Best Car Rental if you need a vehicle. They were very nice, helpful and did not take advantage at all (I think that they were offended when we took pictures of our car when we rented it). We booked two rooms - one with a queen and 2 twins and one with 2 queens. Both rooms were adequate (we were hardly there). They were clean with no little critters. The maids changed the linen everyday. The pool area is nice (cleaned everyday) but could have been a little warmer. The hot tub was just the right temperature as the days were very warm. They take phenomenal care of the garden area. It is so beautiful. We at breakfast at Nemos a few times - good service, basic food, reasonable prices. We highly recommend having lunch at Papa Hoggs next door - fantastic!!! The only complaint I might have is that if you want to sleep in do not book room A2 as it is close to the linen room. The maids arrive at about 7:00 a.m. and are a noisy bunch. They were nice and did quiet down when we asked. Overall, it was an excellent value for the money paid and I would stay there again.

  • Liked — It was a quiet hotel that was approximately 3 kms from downtown. We had the best of both worlds as were able to relax and unwind after enjoying Carnaval Festivities downtown.

2 Adults stayed early Jan 2007 for two weeks.
Ideal hotel if you are on Cozumel just for the scuba diving.

45 minutes walk from town, or $4 by taxi.
Quiet, very few families with children.

Best rooms are the superior, very spacious, Standard rooms are a bit on the small size. Aircon fierce but worked. Ceiling fan manic. Rooms clean. Showers worked, hot water all day. Fridge and TV provided.
Breakfast bar was reasonable quality and price. Never ate in resturant. Menu looked ok, nothing special though.

Office staff are friendly if rather disorganised.

Across the road from the hotel entrance is a jetty where dive boats stop to pick up. Very convenient.
Dived with Dive Paradise. They have an office at the base of the jetty and well as in town. They were good and we would go with them again.

Best resturant in town is Guidos, on the promenade, 4 blocks north of the plaza. Expensive but excellent food. Ideal if you are tired of burritos, fajitas etc.
