I do not recommend this hotel.

In Late May(a week and a half ago), I was attacked in my room while sleeping. It was my fourth stay at Villa Blanca. I stayed in a pretty nice room near the pool and was attacked in the dark while sleeping at 4:30am.

I have a police report, xrays and had to stay extra days to allow the swelling in my head and neck to become safe to travel.

I was hit multiple times in the back of the head/neck and once in the front...ya while sleeping face down.

I never saw my attacker or attackers and don't know how they got into my room. There is no security patrol at the hotel.

I probably will never stay there again. If they had a security patrol this might not have happened.

The manager never met me in person and gave me a 10$ discount per day for my extra 5 days, wow. I had just got my cash and drivers license stolen...robbed and beaten...they moved me to a real crappy room. I complained and was moved again. I saw 3 rooms. One I got attacked in, the second flooded with rain & A/C overflow water the third smelled bad.

I probably will also not get married in Cozumel now. I have done 17+ scuba trips to Cozumel (200+ dives in cozumel) and numerous family trips since 1983. The charm of this island finally wore off on this trip. Oh yea, DAN has a great staff of Drs.

  • Liked — location with a diving pier, nice reasteraunt away from town
  • Disliked — getting attacked in my sleep and robbed

The lobby was a little scary, but the Superior Room was very nice. Spacious, clean, a nice mattress on a box spring. Air conditioner was excellent. No ceiling fans, though. Big refrig and a real freezer. Hot water never an issue.

For diving, you had a pedestrian crosswalk in front of the hotel, so getting to the dive boats (either Dive Paradise with big slow but covered boats or Papa Hog with fast small and uncovered boats) is easy.

Night dives off their dock were great. Octopuses, eels, squid and nudibranchs. Even watched two yellow rays do the nasty!

The restaurant left a lot to be desired. Very limited menu. Doesn't take credit cards.

Papa Hog has a nice little restaurant next door. Breakfast and lunch only. Good food, good prices.

There's a 7/11 type store next to that, so if you need a coke or an ice cream cone, it's right there.

You can walk into town. It's a long walk, but doable. The best food will be found there. And they take credit cards.

When we return to Cozumel we will definitely consider Villablanca again.

  • Liked — Great bed and air conditioning, and convenience to dive boats.
  • Disliked — A long walk to town.

My recent four night stay at VillaBlanca in Cozumel was fantastic. Me and my travel partner were greeted by a very friendly front desk agent who checked us in promptly and had a bellhop put our bags on a dolly and direct us to our room. Our room was situated just behind the very clean swimming pool on the first floor. There were french doors that opened to our patio and the pool and hot tub courtyard area was just footsteps outside. There were never any screaming kids out by the pool which I was very happy about. The pool scene was very relaxed and mature with much book reading, journaling and quiet conversation by the other guests.

The hotel restaurant and bar was just next to the pool and had nightly specials at 12.00 USD a plate. I had the Mexican style beef tips with rice and crab salad. It was followed by the most delicious locally made chocolate ice cream. We dined in the open air up the spiral stairs on the roof overlooking the grounds. Very professional service and knowledgeable waiter answered many of our questions about the island.

The very kind front desk agent arranged for a local scooter rental company to deliver scooters to the hotel for us to explore the island on. Very reasonable at 25.00 USD a day. (24 hours)

The superior room was air conditioned, very clean, and had a large bathroom. The tub was tiled and the shower ran hot.

Mary, the housekeeper cleaned every day meticulously and folded the towels like swans and the washcloths like sitting ducks. She even took the time to fold a piece of tissue into the shape of a swan and paint eyes and a beak on. So cute.

The beach club across the street had great food and drinks with a boat dock for diving boats and snorkeling right there.

The hotel was about 1.5 miles south of downtown. It was a 4.00 USD dollar taxi ride or about a 30 minute walk. I liked that it was a little bit out of the way but close enough to get anywhere with no problem.

Papa hogs dive shop and restaurant next door made strong coffee and had a good breakfast menu. Two eggs with potatoes and toast for just 4.00 USD!

I cant wait to go back. Check out the photos.

We loved this hotel. We stayed in a superior king near the pool. The front desk staff was beyond fantastic. The house keeping service was outstanding. Our housekeeper made little swans and left them about our room after we tipped her 50 pesos (5.00 US).

The proximity to scuba diving right off shore was great. I rented gear from the dive shop next door and had a great experience.

The bathroom was huge.. the deep roman style tub and shower tiled with travertine was pretty cool.

The only issue we had was with the scooter rental company (explora) the hotel recommended and arranged for us. Don't do it! Absolutely avoid using this rental company. They are looking to bilk unsuspecting tourists. Find another company. If you purchase the insurance they recommend be aware that it only covers damage over $500 US. We left a credit card imprint with the company as requested.. They stated that they would not charge the card for any reason because of the 15% fee assessed in Mexico and wanted us to pay cash for our rental. As it turns out they attempted to charge my card $250 US the second they returned to their office. When we turned the scooters in they then insisted we pay another $250 in US for a preexisting scratch. When we refused to hand over the $250 in US dollars they threatened to call the Mexican police and stated that we would be locked up in a Mexican jail until we paid what they were asking. It was a very scary situation. Blatant extortion. BE AWARE!

  • Liked — The Staff. The solid safe and secure feeling of the hotel. Will definetly stay again.
  • Disliked — Overall.. It was a really great place to stay.

This was a great place to stay if you are not planning on spending your entire vacation inside the hotel room or at a swim up pool bar. If you are a diver, this is a great location to stay as Dive Paradise is across the street and Papa Hogs is next door. Fantastic location for access to the boat docks to be picked up in the morning. Again not the place to stay if you want waited on hand and foot or an All Inclusive hotel for the obvious cheap price of this hotel. We'll definitely be back as we like to dive not sit in our rooms, which were still very nice, cool and clean and we were in the older part of the hotel.
