Caribe Blu is my proverbial home away from home. My dad discovered this gem in 1981 (it was La Perla then), and my family has been staying there at least once a year ever since. We love the size (very small), the slightly rustic atmosphere, the location (close enough to town to walk or for a cheap cab ride, but far enough away so the the cruise ship crowds aren't a factor), the personal attention given by the personable and competent staff, and the convenience of the onsite dive op (Blue Angel), boat dock, and restaurant.

The rooms are clean and spacious, the beds are comfortable, the pool is well maintained, and the unobscured sunset views from the patio and balconies are stunning. The rooms have televisions (we never turn ours on) and telephones, and most (possibly all by now) have mini-fridges.

I wouldn't consider staying anywhere else on Cozumel.

My wife and I just returned from our third stay at Caribe Blu (we previously visited in Nov 06 and May 07). Upon arrival we found that many of the friendly staff members were still there and we were greeted very warmly.

This is a great destination for scuba divers that provides convenience to an excellent dive operation. The rooms are austere but are large and functional. Each room now includes a small refrigerator and a TV with about a dozen English channels including CNN Headline News. All rooms have patios or balconies overlooking the water. Good snorkeling is available in front of the dive shop.

We dove six days with Blue Angel, the dive shop affiliated with the hotel. Each morning we boarded a small boat with a total of 6 to 8 divers. The boats are very fast and we quickly reached the dive sites. The surface interval was often done at a pier. Dive masters accompanied each dive and they are very competent and very safety conscious. Boat captains did a great job of following our drift dives and we had very short waits for pickup at the conclusion of the dives.

We generally returned to the hotel about 12:30, rinsed gear, then cleaned up a bit for lunch. The small restaurant above the dive shop serves freshly prepared and tasty lunch fare like club sandwiches and burritos. Many of the divers congregated at the pool after lunch and it was interesting to share stories with divers from different parts of the country.

We were part of a loosely organized group from San Jose that included some nondiving spouses. I was initially concerned that the nondivers would be bored but they enjoyed walks into town to explore and to get exercise.

A few of the other reviewers have commented on street noise. We found that closing the bathroom door reduced the noise level and helped to keep the room cooler during the day.

This hotel should satisfy anyone going in with the proper expectations. This is not a luxury resort. But it provides a large clean oceanfront hotel room with a balcony and refrigerator for less than $100 per night.

I know I may not be popular by saying this, but I picked this hotel based on what people here were saying. I didn't like this place at all and we checked out after a couple of days. It is SO noisy that I didn't sleep a good night's sleep for the entire stay. We dove with Blue Angel. They were OK but nothing special. Once again most of what I read online was a bunch of hype. It may be good for people who can't afford a nicer dive resort, but I will never return.

we just love caribe blu, we had been to cozumel in jan 06 just after the hurricane and stayed at a different hotel . we had checked out caribe blu then and had wished we were there instead. In 06 the island of cozumel was in very bad shape and we had decided after our visit not to go back until they had a chance to rebuild. this trip was an unplanned one, we had been on the yucatan mainland and were in tulum , the wind prevented us from pretty much doing anything in the water , we had wanted to dive and snorkel and were very disappointed.. we talked to a dive guide in tulum and he said the only place they were going out was cozumel..the island protects from the wind so we decided to go back and give it another chance and the first place i thought of that i wanted to stay was caribe blu. we took the car ferry over and drove around a bit to see if there were possibly other places that we may have wanted to stay. nothing compared to caribe blu for location , convience and comfort.. there rooms are awesome ,great bathrooms, the beds super comfy ,clean, friendly, views great, really good snorkeling right off the beach , the reefs in cozumel are starting to recover from the hurricane in 05, definately saw signs of new corral and the fish are awesome.. we did not eat at the restuarant at caribe blu , we have another favorite , the rock java cafe that opens at 7 . we just love cozumel and would definately go back , they have done an amazing job pulling that town back together , you almost dont know how devastated it was just 2 years ago. caribe blu will always be part of our plans in the future, the pricing was reasonable and would have even been more so if we had booked online , they have great package deals , i usually find booking online a bit scarey when traveling in mexico , you never know what you will get and then if its bad or the bed is horrible your locked in. At caribe blu you can feel totally comfortable booking ahead , you will not be disappointed with any aspect of your stay, do try to get 3rd floor for best views , but if you cant its all good , each room has its own charm.. one last thing the dive guides are really great , lots of fun , and very knowledgeable.. thanks for a great trip blu caribe, we will be back

My wife and I just returned from a week at Caribe Blu. I guess we expected more after reading the other reviews. Problem number one - we arrived at around 2:30 and were ignored for awhile and then were told our room wasn't ready. A half hour later, we tried again and were ignored again. We were finally given a room on the top floor on the far end. When I initially booked our room, I had requested a lower floor because my wife has knee trouble. We were told this was the only room left. Problem number two - the traffic noise is terrible( I guess they don't sell mufflers in Cozumel). There are speed bumps in front of the hotel, so the traffic slows and then accelerates as loudly as possible. Problem number 3 - moldy air conditioner. It also dripped water onto the floor. Problem number 4 - I took my laptop down because they advertised free wireless internet in the lobby. They have to give you a security code to access their router - the code didn't work. I had to use their laptop which was very slow because they were downloading music. Other than all this, we had a decent time.
