We stayed at the Playa Azul on Thanksgiving and the following day before transferring over to the Melia on a timeshare trade. We loved staying at the Playa Azul. The front desk staff was very helpful and friendly. Maid service was excellent, they left towel creatures and flower petals to decorate our room. We had a king bed that could have been a bit softer, but I have found most beds in Mexico to be a bit on the hard side. The snoreling at the hotel was ok, nothing to right home about. If you plan on going into the water there, it is easier to exit the water to the far left of the pier. The bartenders were nice and very accomodating.

  • Liked — Friendliness of staff.
  • Disliked — Room could have used a fridge.

I thought this was going to be a 5 star hotel like it's ranked and we really liked the idea of the garden house since there was 6 of us all ranging from various ages coming from Maryland, Alaska, Indiana and Utah and we all agreed the house was awful. It had bugs, I posted a pic of my husband’s leg after one night, I got 17 bites on one foot and 9 on another after one night in the bed. I've been back 4 days and I'm still suffering from but bites. I've literally stayed in motel 6's that would be great to stay in compared to this. It was like they built this house in one week with no measuring tools no quality products and built it in the maintenance yard, my view was tools and a flat tire. This was embarrassing, especially since I picked the place to have my family stay here. I would rate it 1/2 star and I've stayed in some shady places in the Caribbean before and did not mind but this house was bad I mean really bad. I don’t know how the actual rooms were but avoid the garden house at all costs. There is no beach, so if you want a safe place away from the rocks for your children this is not the place, they guy at the front showed me a picture of how it use to be and I think that’s the picture of what they use as their advertisement. The breakfast was really good and I will not complain about the staff because they were great and friendly. The spa was relaxing and I had a great massage there, they give you 10% discount if you pay cash at the spa. I’m just complaining about the state of the garden house and beach. We did go to diner at the Presidente Cozumel Resort and ate at Alfredo Di Roma Restaurant inside the resort, the hotel was extremely nice from what I could tell, if you eat there please try the Mushroom soup and Fettuccini Alfredo both dishes melt in your mouth, I mean you will not find better that cost us $350.00 for 6, I thought that was cheep with how nice the restaurant was. We also ate at Pepe’s, that was great $250.00 for 6. An Italian girl that takes under water pictures for tourist and has been living there recommended Guido’s restaurant, they put us in the garden room and we saw cockroaches all over, a cat dish with cat food in the corner and we were eaten alive by ants while trying to dine there, that fine dining experience cost us $150.00 for 6 and tasted like they use zero spices, Mormon’s cook better than that and their food is very plain. To eat at the hotel Playa Azul cost us $200.00 for 6, the food was ok, no complaints. I understand one man’s idea of nice is different then another’s, good luck with planning your trip. We did stay at Sol Melia in Cancun for 2 nights and that was ranked a 4 star and I would have given that a 5 star, no bugs and awesome room, however we did get the upgraded room with ocean view, great ocean for kids.

Beware - this hotel is a smelly old hotel. It may have once been nice, but it is not anymore.

We thought we were making reservations in a luxary hotel, but the place had an odor of mold and good days gone by. A daycare for children for hotel employees was loosely held on the premises, which meant bad kids running around. The "guards" at night were loud and drunk.

The beach is gone, and the dive shop never opened.

Housekeeping left our room door wide open one day.

We used on credit card here -- the only place in Cozumel -- and shortly thereafter fraudulent charges started appearing from Cozumel.

The front desk staff was very nice, but could not provide any help.

I would not consider staying here under any circumstances.

OH Playa Azul!! How we miss you!! My boyfriend and I were there almost 2 years ago on our first time on a romantic getaway. we chose this hotel based on a "good feeling" that we had about it. We could not have been happier with our choice! Everyone was very professional and kind. Our room and all the grounds were maintained perfectly. It was quiet and peaceful, and i had a wonderful sleep EVERY SINGLE NITE. We had an oceanview room, and could listen to the ocean as we fell asleep. We loved coming home from our excursions to find a note on the bed inviting us to the next nights buffet. We looked forward to the breakfast buffet with all the guys serving it up with a smile and a brief spanish lesson. The staff made our trip soooo special; we will NEVER book a trip anywhere else in Cozumel.

My wife and I stayed at the beautiful Playa Azul for 10 days - this is probably Cozumels best kept secret. The Hotel is quiet and simply beautiful, we will come back for sure.

One of the best attractions there is the dive shop Pro Dive located at the Hotel. They take you in the morning right from the hotels dock in front of your room scuba diving for two dives. Return is around 3 in the afternoon, and you never see the same reef twice. Cozumel has some of the worlds best diving, we dived Palancar, Columbia, Paraiso, Dalila and Paso de Cedral reefs. So much fish, and such incredible reef formation.

The dive instructors from Pro Dive all speak fluent English, and they are very professional and know their job. They even have instructor training in Cozumel. I have dived in Cozumel before with other outfits, but none has come to the level of their service. We will come back next year to go diving again with Pro Dive, and will bring 6 other friends with us. I highly recommmend the Playa Azul and the excellent dive shop.
