Wonderful hotel, beautiful view from 2nd floor corner ocean view suite. Complimentary breakfast was delicious great variety of delights. All the staff were extremely helpful and we were always treated like special guests. Front desk staff went out of their way to get any information we requested and met all our needs. Free wireless internet made making arrangements and sending picture e-postcards fun and easy. Small quiet facility so never felt crowded. Pool is a little small but with the ocean right there seemed to be hardly every used. Only problem encountered was room door needed double checking for closure and maid left it open slightly a couple of times, needed a new door knob. You have to feed the turtles out front, they come out of all their hiding places swarming to the watermelon. The spa facility was nice and clean with a lovely woman who makes you feel comfortable and relaxed. Enjoyed 2 massages, a facial, hair treatment, manicure and pedicure---A must visit. The restaurant was very good, excellent service and the food was good.

The dive shop (Pro Dive) was awesome, went on a dive trip and a whale shark excursion with them. Very attentive and their online customer service can't be beat. The on sight staff was superb, great guides for a dive or snorkle excursion.

Will definately stay there again on our return to Cozumel.

  • Liked — Best deal for room with seperate sleeping facility for teen and parents. Breakfast
  • Disliked — No activities for 19 yr old son at night - not many teens at hotel to socialize with.

Stayed with a group of 6 friends at the garden house at Playa Azul from 6/25-6/29. On arrival to the hotel we were impressed by the lobby and friendly staff. The view of the pool and the beach were impressive, but as we were escorted to the "garden house" we were disappointed as the house actually appears to be a converted trailer near the parking lot with a view of the back of the property. The inside of the "house" was clean and spacious, but the shower water was consistently cold and the location was awful. We enjoyed the breakfasts, snorkeling and the friendliness of the staff. The tiki beach bar served great drinks and we took advantage of the snorkeling from the dock. We ended up having a good time and from other reviews, it appears that the rooms may be a better option and I would avoid the garden house if I were to stay here again.

  • Liked — the friendliness of the staff
  • Disliked — location of the garden house

When researching for a hotel to stay for our vacation to Cozumel Mexico, I consulted with Trip Advisor and my father's recommendation and decided on the Playa Azul Resort. We were both very happy with our stay at the hotel. The location was a few miles from the downtown which was nice to avoid the cruise ship crowds. The staff were very friendly and the check in and out were both smooth.

I appreciated that the hotel was on the smaller side. All of the rooms faced the ocean and our room had a beautiful view of the sunrises and sunsets. It was wonderful to wake up to the sound of chirping birds every morning. The room was extremely clean and well taken care of. All of the furnishings were nice as well.

The beach access is very nice. Some of the beach had washed away during the Hurricane a few years ago, but it is still enjoyable to swim in the ocean. There were plenty of chairs and umbrellas to relax under. The only downside was the pool, which I never saw anyone swim in. I thought that it was cold comparably to the ocean; although I don't know why you would swim there when the ocean was so wonderful.

The restaurant was delicious and I loved everything that we ordered. The breakfast buffet that came with the reservation was great. It was nice being able to wake up in the morning and not have to worry about where we were going to eat. The menu rotated so there was enough variety to not be monotonous after six days. I enjoyed the plantains and chorizo the best. The drinks and the lunch options were excellent as well. The nachos were the best that we had on the island!

I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone.

Also, the bonus of staying here is that The Lobster House is across the street, which has some of the best Lobster I've ever had!

Nice hotel - clean, good view, nice sunset, fun little lagoon, pool. Service, food & location not so great. Nobody wanted to help with our bags (even though we paid for bellhop service in advance). We had to wait a couple of hours for them to "prepare" our room, only to walk into a flooded one. Nothing was within walking distance. Front desk clerk sold me internet service even though he knew the internet was down. Then they refused to refund my money until I'd bugged them over hours of time. Patti at the spa was a wonderful person. Security guard was great - gave us a 5am wake up call even though we never asked for one. He was correct though...we were running late. I probably would not stay there again.

  • Liked — Bed - extremely comfortable
  • Disliked — Staff seemed annoyed with guests

Playa Azul is a wonderful small resort. Most guests are middle-aged couples or young honeymooners looking for a quiet, relaxing vacation. This is the perfect place for it. The rooms are spacious and attractive (and our bed was very comfortable). Every room has an amazing ocean view. The beach area is beautiful and smartly divided into smoking and non-smoking areas. There is good snorkeling over the rocky bottom just a few feet into the water in front of the hotel. If you prefer more sandy bottom for swimming or bobbing around, there is a great spot along the stretch of beach just to the south of the hotel, which is also where jet skis can be rented. The water is amazingly clear and clean and, unlike many tropical places, refreshingly cool (around 75 degrees I'd say). In fact the ocean water is so great, we never went in the hotel pool. The dive shop at the Playa Azul Beach Club next door rents snorkeling equipment, though as a guest of the hotel you can get equipment for an hour per day free. Fishing boats, parasail boats, dive boats and tour boats will pick you up at the hotel's pier. Taxis are always waiting out in front of the hotel to take you into town (it's an eight minute, $5 trip). The free breakfast buffet is served on a large covered terrace that looks out on the water. There is a wide variety of food and it's all good. My wife and I particularly enjoyed the Mexican breakfast casseroles, which were new to us. Lunch can be eaten here or at the outdoor Palapa Bar on the beach (the nachos rock), or you can eat under the huge palapa at the beach club next door. That beach club seems to be a favorite of the locals. The food is good (try the tomato salad, the guacamole and the club sandwich), the margaritas are strong and the wait staff is very friendly. The hotel staff at Playa Azul likewise is friendly, gracious and helpful. These folks are Mayan and courtesy is important in their culture. If you bother to greet them with "Hola, como esta usted?" and leave a small tip for the maid each day, they really appreciate it and will go out of their way to make you feel at home. My wife and I enjoyed our experince here so much that we've already booked another trip.

  • Liked — Quiet atmosphere with almost no children, exeptionally friendly staff, large room with ocean view, beautifil beach area, free breakfast byuffet
  • Disliked — a wedding party made it seem crowded for a couple of days.
