My fiance and I just got back from a great week in Cozumel at the Coral Princess. Enjoyed it so much, and gained so much from this site, felt obligated to share.

First of all, at the advice of some folks on this site, emailed the property in advance to get an ocean view room with a fridge. Both requests were accomodated. Had an Ocean View room on the 6th floor, and it was perfect. Balcony is pretty small (for a standard), but the view cannot be beat. Staff at the hotel were beyond friendly, and have nothing but nice things to say about all of them.

Room had a huge king bed, and a TV with a good number of channels in English believe it or not. You will come to know the words "Prime Time Warner Channel" while there, trust me...:) Fridge was big enough to stick drinks and snacks in if you needed to. You were typically given a big bottle of water at each maid cleaning (to brush teeth and what not).

You are given tickets for a free continental breakfast each morning (Toast/Pastries--awesome, Fruit, Juice, Coffee). For another $2.20 you can upgrade to the American which gets you eggs and bacon, sausage or ham. Word of advice, stay away from the sausage. It's just kind of like an undercooked hot dog. Overall though, the breakfast food was very, very good. We had a number of lunches and one dinner at the hotel. Overall found the hotel food to be above average. Also, happy hour outside at the palapa bars is from 5-6 each day and gets you 2 for 1 drinks. They have a band that plays also which is alot of fun. We found out the first day that during happy hour if you order a Dos Equis and a Pina Colada, that means they bring you 2 of each at once! Fun though.

Beach area is relatively small, but if you want a chair, some sun, and beautiful sights, it works out just fine. Never once had to fight for a chair. The snorkeling right off the hotel is amazing. Just hop right in and you see a TON of fish! We rented snorkeling gear right at the hotel for $7/each I think which gave us the equipment for 24 hours. Pool was small, but perfect to cool off in. Overall, our weather could not have been better. One day of rain, and even though it was warm, the breeze was awesome, and we never felt HOT!

We went on a snorkeling trip through Cozumel sailing, and it was by far our best day. Captain Dan runs a great trip. We left at 10 and were back at 4:30. Boat is really nice, and Dan and the crew were very cool. Got some great snorkeling in, a trip to a deserted beach, some spinnaker rides (like parasailing, but not as high), and some sun time on the boat. Trip included, beer, mixed drinks, soda, water, and a delicious lunch. They have two charcoal grills right on the boat and made up some steak tacos, chicken wings, pasta salad, fresh guacamole and pico de gallo. Trip was limited to 16 people which was perfect. Cost was $70 each, and I can't say enough about how nice this was.

Also rented a car for the day from JE rentals who have a booth right in the lobby at the CP. Cost for a 4 door Geo Tracker was $55 (included comp insurance), and then $6 for the gas I used. Driving here is easy! There are two main roads, and it is impossible to get lost. Went to the East side of the Island for a day to Bob Marleys and Coconuts. If you have ever seen the Corona commercials, it is alot like that. Just little places to grab a bite and some drinks and take in some amazing scenery right on the water. You DEFINITELY have to do this while in Cozumel. No power on that side of the island, and just very relaxing and cool.

Ok this is getting long. Real quick, we hit the following restaurants:

Lobster House- Best lobster I have ever had. Pick your own tail, and the ambience is very nice. In a large thatched hut, and candles everywhere. Lobster, veggies, bread, dessert, and a couple drinks for $75 total. One thing in Cozumel, got good bang for the buck (or peso!)

Guido's- Had lunch here one day, and liked it so much went back for dinner. Lasagna and the garlic bread they serve was delicious. Pizzas are also very good, was a nice break to get Italian food.

Carlos N Charlies-Fun for drinking and more drinking, although kinda pricey if you end up drinking a fair amount. You'll enjoy yourself more with a few in you for sure. Food was decent though.

Casa Denis-Unbelievably spicy pico de gallo! Very good though. Had the Shrimp Diablo which was tasty. Good spot to people watch.

Pancho's Backyard-Verrry romantic. Nice setting (part indoor/part outdoor. Try the enchiladas con como. Sauce is interesting, but very, very good. Make sure you only have one margarita, or else you will be stumbling home.

Tried to go to La Veranda but there was a wedding reception taking place...

Anyway, to summarize, Cozumel was incredible. You have to try the food, and do some strollin around San Miguel. People, scenery, weather and food were all perfect. We will be back. Thanks again to everyone for their input and advice.

We just returned from Cozumel and the Coral Princess hotel was amazing. It was just the two of us girls, and yet we felt completely safe on the island. We did get a handful of offers for a Mexican boyfriend. All in good fun =)
At checkin, we were greeted with tropical drinks and was escorted us to our room on the 8th floor. When the shades were drawn, we saw the most spectacular ocean view and perfect view of the pool area/diving off spot. There's not a lot of activity in the water near the hotel so rarely you'll hear loud buzzing from boats/wave runners.

I emailed the hotel with some requests beforehand: non-smoking ocean view room w/double beds and a fridge. Everything was accomodated for and it was a very relaxing trip. The hotel staff was very nice and helpful. Since the hotel was close to town, it didn't cost much to take a taxi ($3 dollars). If you stay at the hotels in the south, the taxi fare is a lot more. The walk to town isn't even that bad if you've got time to spare.

The only meals we had at the hotel was breakfast and we paid $4.40 more for 2 American breakfasts as opposed to the Continental option. That included eggs, toast, fruit plate, oj, and bacon. Every other meal we had in town and personally I think this option better than staying at an AI hotel. Part of the fun in a vacation is finding places, such as restaurants.

The pool area was always occupied but there were always lawn chairs available (just not the ones with the thatched umbrellas). Snorkeling near the hotel was nice, but I highly recommend going to the lagoon down on the south side.

Only small tidbit I'd share is bring a plug-in air freshener. It eliminated that Mexican odor from the bathroom. It never bothered us once the Glade was working. Also. the walls seem to be thin. There was a family next door and we woke up each morning to hear cooing sounds the dad made when talking to his kid. Quite amusing and far better than hearing a horny couple.

All in all, couldn't have asked for a better trip!

THe COral Princess was beautiful and the people working and staying there were all nice.
My Room faced the Ocean and was on the 8th floor. THe room was clean and the shower was big . BOttle of shampoo and lotion. THey have a in room safe. and small refrigerator that was not working but was replace in 20 minutes. THey greated me with a cold drink and cool towel while I was checking in . this was a nice touch.
Breakfast in the morning which was inclued in the price of the room.
Your choices were Juice or Fruit. THrees pieces of toast or Muffin.
Coffee . It was served out side which at times was a little windy and the birds would swope down.
THe burgers for lunch are very big comes with lots of French fries, and is only $7.00. Drinks are expensive.

THe snokerling right outside the hotel. Is nice, again it was conveient and free. Save some bread from breakfast .

Also single ladies, beware of late night knocks on the door.
Since the phones do not work. and there is no peep hole.

THe hotel was clean, friendly and I will stay there again.

Stayed at the Coral Princess for a week during spring break. I will tell you the pros and cons of this hotel.
For the most part, it is a good, clean, friendly hotel on the water. No sandy beach to walk on, although the lawnchairs are in white sand. There is a rocky reef barrier between the chairs and water. If you're an experience diver or snorkelor, you will be disappointed. If you don't dive and don't snorkel, this site is great, especially if you have kids. What I'm saying is there is a small amount to look at that seemed to satisfy people. I, on the other hand, have seen much better.

Two pools, outside bar, good service. There is a restaurant at the Coral that is decent, casual.

Beware of the LOUD ice machine on the 3rd / 4th floor. It will keep you awake at night. For some reason, people need ice 24/7. I tried to unplug it to sleep but it is hardwired in, can't unplug it.

Oh, there is no coffee pot in the rooms as they advertised. I brought Starbucks with me but they had no coffee pots. The hotel coffee is instant. So I went out a bought a coffee pot. It was a hard find, apparently the Mexicans do not appreciate coffee because finding a coffee maker was HARD. I eventually found one at an electronic store.

For the most part, the Coral was a pleasant stay. Friendly staff who spoke English.

My husband and I recently got back from Cozumel in the end of March. Frankly, I was VERY nervous staying at the Coral Princess because of the recent negative reviews. I have to say we were pleasantly surprised and will definitely go back again to stay there again. Here are the helpful tips I have for any of you staying at the Coral Princess:

1.We stayed in room 216. Great room with view, clean, air conditioner worked great. Most of the people we heard complaining were in the larger rooms and the time-share people. I am not aware of any complaints on our floor.
2.There is a distinct “Mexico smell” in the bathroom, but remember you are in MEXICO. It is not offensive and you get used to it.
3.Bring your own beach towels. If you lose a beach towel or your towel card you will pay dearly. Just don’t mess with it and take your own.
4.Utilize the concierges. We tipped well and he made our days much easier (I believe the great one is named Pedro, but they are all nice).
5.Rent your jeeps BEFORE you get here. You will get a better rate. We rented a Jeep from Alamo for approx $90/day with full coverage. We almost went with “Executive” but we found quite a few hidden costs and the guy at the rental place would not honor what the agent at the hotel told us.
6.The hotel provides a complementary breakfast but for $2 more, you can get the American Breakfast. It was good and came with eggs, bacon, and hash brown patty along with the rest of the continental breakfast.
7.Rise early to get a spot on the beach. I tried to resist this nonsense but after a couple of days I too was up at 6:00 to “mark my chairs” on the beach. If we decided to not stick around we would pick up our stuff but at least we had a place to lay out if we needed it.
8.Snorkel, right into the water. A fellow traveler gave us some cheese in a can. The fish LOVED it and it was fun. The dive shop provides rental if you need it.
9.MUST go to the Lobster house! THE BEST LOBSTER I have ever had.
10.If you want quiet time in Cozumel ships do not dock or only a couple on Sat/Sun. The massive droves of ships come peak Wed/Thurs.
11.You can call the hotel directly and try to reserve an ocean view room. They will not guarantee (first come basis) but if they have it as one of your request they will try to accommodate. Ask for a room with a fridge, although it is small, it helps keep the water cold! We bought our water, beer, snacks from the local supermarket. VERY cheap!!
12.Take time to go to other beaches such as the ones on the East coast (great for seashell hunters) and Chankanaab is a MUST. We had a great time snorkeling and the dolphin swim is worth the money.
13.One thing I would not attend again was the “Mexican Fiesta” at the hotel. It is expensive for what you get and unorganized. That was the only real thing was not worth it.

This is an economy hotel but it has personal service, nice location, and adequate rooms and worth a second look. When we go back to Cozumel we will return to the Coral Princess. Have a GREAT TRIP!!
