My husband and I recently got back from Cozumel in the end of March. Frankly, I was VERY nervous staying at the Coral Princess because of the recent negative reviews. I have to say we were pleasantly surprised and will definitely go back again to stay there again. Here are the helpful tips I have for any of you staying at the Coral Princess:

1.We stayed in room 216. Great room with view, clean, air conditioner worked great. Most of the people we heard complaining were in the larger rooms and the time-share people. I am not aware of any complaints on our floor.
2.There is a distinct “Mexico smell” in the bathroom, but remember you are in MEXICO. It is not offensive and you get used to it.
3.Bring your own beach towels. If you lose a beach towel or your towel card you will pay dearly. Just don’t mess with it and take your own.
4.Utilize the concierges. We tipped well and he made our days much easier (I believe the great one is named Pedro, but they are all nice).
5.Rent your jeeps BEFORE you get here. You will get a better rate. We rented a Jeep from Alamo for approx $90/day with full coverage. We almost went with “Executive” but we found quite a few hidden costs and the guy at the rental place would not honor what the agent at the hotel told us.
6.The hotel provides a complementary breakfast but for $2 more, you can get the American Breakfast. It was good and came with eggs, bacon, and hash brown patty along with the rest of the continental breakfast.
7.Rise early to get a spot on the beach. I tried to resist this nonsense but after a couple of days I too was up at 6:00 to “mark my chairs” on the beach. If we decided to not stick around we would pick up our stuff but at least we had a place to lay out if we needed it.
8.Snorkel, right into the water. A fellow traveler gave us some cheese in a can. The fish LOVED it and it was fun. The dive shop provides rental if you need it.
9.MUST go to the Lobster house! THE BEST LOBSTER I have ever had.
10.If you want quiet time in Cozumel ships do not dock or only a couple on Sat/Sun. The massive droves of ships come peak Wed/Thurs.
11.You can call the hotel directly and try to reserve an ocean view room. They will not guarantee (first come basis) but if they have it as one of your request they will try to accommodate. Ask for a room with a fridge, although it is small, it helps keep the water cold! We bought our water, beer, snacks from the local supermarket. VERY cheap!!
12.Take time to go to other beaches such as the ones on the East coast (great for seashell hunters) and Chankanaab is a MUST. We had a great time snorkeling and the dolphin swim is worth the money.
13.One thing I would not attend again was the “Mexican Fiesta” at the hotel. It is expensive for what you get and unorganized. That was the only real thing was not worth it.

This is an economy hotel but it has personal service, nice location, and adequate rooms and worth a second look. When we go back to Cozumel we will return to the Coral Princess. Have a GREAT TRIP!!

After reading all the reviews prior to getting to the Coral Princess, I was freaking out that the hotel would be bug ridden, water logged and musty smelling. We had never been to Mexico before and typically we stay at Starwood type hotels (Shearton, Westin, W, etc) It was NOTHING described poorly by the other reviewers. The hotel staff was MORE than friendly. They were not only very accomodating to any questions, they offered to help in anyway possible. The hotel room was nice, not a Westing or W, but a nice shore hotel. We had a standard room facing the "jungle" (which was just trees and the street). We've been to the Bahamas and Hawaii and the diving here was AMAZING!! Pepe Scuba and his staff were great. We dove with Abdias and Socrates the 8 dives while we were there. The dive masters pointed out everything to us. Frank ran the shop and he gave us a lot of information. We did not do all inclusive and would consider it next time, but we ate in town and we didn't get sick. (Pancho's Backyard and La Mission were my husband's favorite). The man-made beach was fine, there were ants, but not an over abundant amount like you would see in the grass. I would definitely stay there again.

We stayed at the Coral Princess from 4/11 to 4/16. Had a very nice time, although the hotel was not up to the standards of some other hotels we have stayed at. Very basic, but nice. Regarding service of the staff, for the most part, everyone was attentive and personable. The maid did a great job each day ($2/day tip provided incentive); waiters and bartenders were very good, although the wait for breakfast and lunch could be rather long. I think it was more indicative of their kitchen's output than laziness on the waiter's part. We ate all of our dinners in town but one: went to the Mexican Night and was disappointed with the food, although entertainment was very good.

Food was good at breakfast and lunch, but not great. We were disappointed that there was no breakfast buffet, and the breakfast menu was somewhat limited. The room was fine. It was clean and adequate, we had only one real complaint: there were only blinds on the windows and no draperies, which made for a rather bright room and difficult sleeping early in the morning. The hotel itself was also kept clean and was in good repair.

The beach area was very small with no direct contact with the ocean. The coral surrounding what would be the beach area made for excellent snorkeling, but not wading into the water from the beach.

In defense of the hotel, we got an excellent price, (5 nights from Chicago for under $1,200 for 2, including tax), and we were sorry to leave. We got what we paid for, and all in all, we had a very nice time.

We arrived on Wed March 30th in Cozumel. Tried to get a taxi from the airport to our hotel, but soon found out this is not allowed. So, we got 2 tickets for the shuttle 78 pesos apiece. Gotta love the Mexican transit system, 13 people in a van designed to hold 10. ;-) I do have to say the airport in Cozumel is one of the easiest to get in and out of.

Upon arriving at the Coral Princess we were given a room on the 3rd floor in the "new" building with an ocean view. I emailed Beatriz at the hotel before arriving and requested the ocean view in the newer building. She was very quick to return my requests and accommodate them as well. The rooms are not exquisite at this hotel. They are very modest, but kept fairly clean. If you were looking for a 5 star hotel then you would not want to stay here. Being right on the water, having an awesome view, and having great staff more than make up for the standard accommodations.

We stayed at the Coral Princess and enjoyed every minute of our stay there. The staff was attentive, very kind and quite helpful. They offer some great deals at the bar and restaurants. 2 for 1 happy hours at both bars and the meals in the restaurant were as good or better than those in town and cost less.

I tried the Fajitas in both pork and chicken varieties and thought they were great and a good value. Cost was 65 pesos for the pork and 80 for the chicken. On certain nights they had a BBQ set up out by the outdoor bar. The meat was excellent, but a little thin by US standards. The chicken was 2 breasts, but on the menu it was described as a 1/2 chicken. Great meal, but a little different than what you expect. Only bad thing we could say about the service was after some meals we had to wait 15 minutes or so and then ask for our bill. I guess they though we wanted to stay all night in the restaurant.
The EP plan there is pretty good. You get Continental Breakfast free or for a few dollars more you can get the American breakfast with eggs and bacon, sausage or ham. The ham is the better choice IMO. The sausage looked and tasted a lot like a spicy hot dog and the bacon was mostly fat.

Overall we had a very enjoyable stay, and would return to stay at the CP based on the snorkeling quality.

Just returned from an 8 day 'vacation' at the Coral Princess Hotel and Resort. Generally speaking, the staff was not pleasant, although there were several (4) who were wonderful. The front desk staff was not helpful, refused to take credit cards, travelers cheques, or to change American currency for American currency although they had a drawer full of American money for all to see. Only Pesos could be given in exchange.

The suite was okay but the bathroom were moldy, standing water was always on the bathroom floor, with there were no ceiling fans to vent the air. The cleaning service, however, was great and did all they could to help us.

The food service was equally inadequate. Staff was unfriendly and the food bland. The best thing on the menu was a cheese burger and fries. Eggs were runny with no seasoning and little taste. The hotel put on a 'special night' of entertainment which was very good, but it was also advertised as all you can eat and drink. The drinks contained little alcohol and trying to get a waiter to bring you a second beverage of any kind was almost impossible.

I and my fellow travelers would not recommend this resort especially for the amount of money that was charged and especially with the attitude of the staff. If you wish to go on a vacation where you are treated with disrespect, have cheese burgers and fries, can't spend money unless it is American currency and feel like you are an inconvenence then this is the place for you. As for me, I definitely won't be returning nor will my American money.
