What a nightmare! I was ready leave after the 1st night. I traded one of my timeshare weeks (a "Red" week at a 5 star resort) for this dump. What a mistake!

Upon arrival, we were assigned to a room on the 3rd floor overlooking a dumpster and taxi stand. We asked for a room with a view of the ocean - it cost us an additional $10.00 (plus taxes) per night.

The hotel staff was relatively pleasant. They certainly appreciate tips. I got some form of food poisoning the 1st night when we ate at the onsite restaurant. (Do NOT order the shrimp cocktail!)

Due to my extreme 'flu-like' symptoms, I was holed up in the 'studio' for 3 days. I got very little rest due to hotel employees literally beating on exposed exterior plumbing pipes with sledgehammers.

Our ocean-view 'studio' at a $premium$ was comparable to a Turkish prison cell. It wasn't a 'studio'. It was a crappy motel room. The bedding was horrible. The room smelled terrible. The T.V. was worthless with only one channel. Plus, whenever there was any dialog, you got an ear full of static. I turned off the volume and read lips. The lavatory sink area was filthy. Glue was used to mount the lavatory sink faucet to the countertop. A sewage odor emanated from the shower drain.

* The Coral Princess had a couple of redeeming qualities. The view of the ocean from the room (that cost $10 more per night) was beautiful and definitely worth an additional $10 per night. The on-site snorkeling was very good and just inches from the pool area. The massage therapists were excellent and right on the beach in a private tent. I had Jesus and my husband had his sister.

Good Luck Amigos...

Just returned from a week at the coral princess. For the money we paid it was a good deal. The hotel is clean and the rooms are comfortable. We did not get an ocean view room. Our room faced the street and jungle, we had a balcony though. The traffic was not bothersome. We could hardly hear it at night. The rooms were older but very clean, the maids do a good job. It is a little damp though. THe restaurant at the hotel is average. They claim to give a free continental breakast every morning, which they do, but it is not a buffet style. The waiters bring you two pastries, coffe and a juice. We don't know if they would charge for an extra pastry or not. The food is okay for lunch. I would never eat there at supper time, seeing that San Miguel has so many nice restaurants. Try the French Quarter, Guido's and Prima's... EXCELLENT! I would suggest renting a car for the week. Taxi's were 3.00 one way into town. Not bad, I guess. We went to the other side of the island one day, that was very nice. But, I got sick from eating at Coconuts.

The snorkeling in front of the hotel is great, one of the nicer spots on the island. The water is about 18 ft. deep, so you just jump in. They have a ladder to get out of the water. The dive shop, Pepe's, is also good. Overall, I don't know if I would stay at the Coral Princess again or not. Depends if I got a special deal. We used this resort as a home base and didn't spend that much time there, so, for that it was pretty good. One more thing, there is NO night life...One bar is open with no one in it. Everyone goes into town at night to shop, eat and hang out...

Got to the hotel on 18Feb05 and left on 21Feb05. Had a great time, but am wishing I could have stayed longer.

Scenery was breathtaking. Convenitently located just north of town. The food was outstanding and trustworthy. The service was nothing less than the best and in English. Had a blast snorkelling with the wife, just outside the backdoor of the hotel. At night the band on the patio sang beautifully while we enjoyed our melas and drinks.

Can't wait to go back

My husband and I just returned home after our wonderful week at the Coral Princess Hotel. Although this was our first stay at this hotel we have visited Cozumel every March for the past 3 years. We grew fonder of this little gem every day! Initially our room was a garden view on the 7th floor but within 2 days we were moved over to an ocean view room on the 6th floor. The people at the front desk were extrememely courteous and seemed to do their best to accomodate us. Our room was very clean and had a small frig for us to use. We don't go on vacation to watch TV so we didn't mind having only 1-2 English speaking stations. The a/c worked great and the view was amazing! We found the snorkeling to be some of the best on the island and enjoyed the quiet beach area (which is really an elevated area with nice sand, a clean pool, palapas and a little bar) We enjoyed eating at some of the many enticing restaraunts in town so we only had breakfast and some snacks at the hotel but found them to be reasonably priced and tasty. Overall this is an excellant place for anyone looking for a stay close to the water and a little less hectic than the larger resorts. The location is great for a walk into town. Most of the staff have worked there for years and are friendly and welcoming. Remember to tip these hard working people and give them the respect they deserve and it all comes back to you! My husband is a diver and found the local dive op to be great also. We plan to return next year and stay in one of the wonderful 2 bedroom suites with the rest of our family. Cozumel is a laid back place to visit and cannot be compared to the glitsy resort communities at other destinations. It is a very safe and friendly island with charming people!

My wife and I stayed at the CP 1/29-2/04. Upon arrival we were made to stand in line with about 15 other people at check in, what a joke. Only one employee to check in all these people!!! Oh well I’ll tolerate it, hey I’m on vacation not at work. After checking in at 1PM we were told to come back around 4PM and our room would be ready. Continental Airlines was nice enough to forward my golf clubs but not my suit case so I got to stroll around in jeans.

The hotel is really showing its age, the elevator is half the size of a standard elevator so only three maybe four people can fit inside it at once. Our room was large and had a full kitchen and large refrigerator.

Complaints:
Check in procedure is terrible.
Very small and slow elevators
The tub backed up and would slowly drain water so I got my feet soaked for free.
No ventilation in the bathrooms
It is a time share complex so don’t expect too much as far as service.
The front desk was always slow to acknowledge your presence.
Sand fleas and mosquito’s are abundant so bring some repellant
“Happy Hour” 2X1 drinks, only one bartender so don’t expect too many two fer’s
Waiters were extremely slow taking orders. I saw many people get up and leave because they were not waited on in a timely manner 5+ minutes was not uncommon.
TV’s sometimes got CNN other times did not
Note this resort has no beach not really a complaint but if you didn’t do your home work you wouldn’t know this.

Positive notes:
Snorkeling on premises allows you to see many wonderful saltwater fish
Large covered balconies
Clean pools
On site dive shop
Continental Breakfast was included and for 22 pesos (about $2.20US) you could also get two eggs, bacon or sausage or ham, and a hash brown.
Maid service did a wonderful job of cleaning and organizing the room each day.
A/C worked fine
Food was good but not world class.

Would I stay there again? No, in fact it will be a while before we head back to Cozumel. I’m a golfer not a diver. So I’ll be looking at Cabo again or the Virgin Islands for my next trip. The CP didn’t ruin my vacation it just didn’t live up to my expectations of what I am accustom to.
