“Same management, same staff, still wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 6, 2009

Not sure what happened during the previous posters stay at the Coral Princess, but we were there during the same time frame (Feb 2009) for an entire month. This was our 16th year at the Coral Princess. First, I was in the pool and hot tub every day and they were not only warm, but hot like a bath most days. And the staff is the same as its been for the last 15 years with very few exceptions. All the same waiters, same dive masters, same front of house staff. No new management, very little staff turnover. As for low pay -- well, yes, the economy and lack of tourists has effected everyone and tips (which is a big part of any staff income) is in short supply.

However, we found the resort to be maintaining its high standards even in the face of hard economic times. The rooms and furnishings have all been refreshed since last year. Pepe's Dive - the on site dive operation - is better than ever, with larger, improved boats and dive masters with advance safety training. The beach is raked and cleaned every single day. Any little item that required repair (which will happen with so many people through a facility) was handled within an hour of reporting the problem. The house reef is making a wonderful come back after hurricane Wilma. The spa has enhanced their list of services and the one hour massage continues to be a bargain at $59. They also offer a 1/2 hour back and neck massage that is wonderful and really cheap. The restaurant food is really good and convenient for breakfast and lunch. Yes, that 3 piece band is gone from Happy Hour -- no more hearing the same songs over and over every single night. Now new friends can converse. Those of us who stay longer than a few days, love it. I still HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Coral Princess as an excellent, family friendly resort.

Loved the Coral Princess! Went with a small group of 10 + baby that stayed in a 2 and 3 bedroom. This was my 5th visit to Cozumel. I've stayed in numerous places in Mexico from hotel to 5 star all inclusive. The rooms were very clean which if I have a complaint they over cleaned and took abouth 2-3 hour to finish the rooms up. We ended eating at the resort more than expected. We thought the food at the restaurant was very reasonable in price and quality.! Just as good as going into town. And the wait staff and bartenders were excellent!! We did not need to get up early to get chairs. Our group snorkeled and used Pepe's dive shop...which was wonderful. We first had an issue on changing our room and which they did with no problem. Which in Mexico can be a challenge. The check in desk was VERY friendly and helpful when we asked questions. We traveled with a baby and they had the crib and highchair already waiting in the room. They did approach us a few times about timeshares which part of our group said no thank you which they left them alone after that. This resort is not for the person that wants tons of activity or designer rooms. The location is nice and very close to town. The ocean view rooms are worth the extra price! Island are the same rooms just different views. And we were also amazed at how nice the beds were. We are planning again on returning next year. My ONLY complaint are the elevators...they are way to small for me. So next time I would request a lower floor so that it would be easier to walk the stairs.

This was my 5th stay with this hotel/resort and I can't say enough good about this property. I work for an airline and travel a lot so I have a pretty good level of experience to base my recommendation on. The staff throughout the property is so attentive, they remembered us from the previous visits and welcomed us so warmly back. The location is very nice, it is away from the hustle and bustle of San Miguel but a short taxi ride if you want a trip to town. The location also makes for perfect diving and snokeling and just being in the water. It is a wall so if you plan on wading in the water that's not an option. The rooms are always clean and the staff is very good about taking very good care to make sure they are ready for you. This isn't a 5 start resort so if that's what you're looking for then move on, but this in my mind is better than any 5 star resort that I've ever stayed at. I hope you consider and have a wonderful vacation.

  • Liked — The staff made the week!
  • Disliked — The building could use a little face lift.

We have stayed here 4 times in the past 10 years. Things have changed and not so much for the better.

True enough, the views from the rooms are simply breathtaking! They have redecorated, I assume after the hurricane. Pretty basic, nothing fancy. Really good snorkeling out in front, which is one reason we always stayed here, watch out for changing currents. Massages on beach fantastic although not cheap.

Things we didn't like this last time versus our first visit::
Reserved a one bedroom ocean view suite. Room seemed clean, however the utensil drawer in the kitchen was full of water and all silverware submersed. Yuk! Made me wonder how water got in there and how thoroughly room had been cleaned. Called front desk and they sent someone to clean it up. Bathroom fan did not work for the first two days, they fixed it. Requested King bed, had two doubles which made for smaller room space, they could not move us to another unit. Hot tub did not work. Pools were cold. The 3 piece marachi group that used to play during happy hour. Gone. A few employees we recognized. Our one waiter who had been there all this time, mentioned new management and low pay the reason so many of the regulars over the years had left. Such a shame! We always had the best service, the friendliest faces. Now, the help all seem unhappy. Timeshare presentation horrible. Even though you get some decent things (free car rental for a day), the pressure and humiliation was not worth it. Food is ok. Better in town. I am so sad because we really liked this little place - when cruise ships only came to the island twice a week. It has changed and we will try another hotel when we go back to Cozumel.

we just got back from the Coral Princess we had a great time some of the best snorkeling we did in are 7 days stay was right there at the hotel. We went to Chankanab park, Xcaret, and Passion island (stay away from Passsion Island its a ripoff). The hotel has great food, not much of a swimming pool and probably not much for little kids to do, but the price was right and they are really freindly, I was snorkeling and startled by a sea snake then suprised by a big wave that pushing me up against the coral and had my wedding band fall off in the sea. It was found by another snorkeler several days later in 12 feet of water and returned to me, alot of honest people stay here. We had a great time.

We stayed at the Coral Princess in early November and enjoyed our visit. Our room was on the 8th floor and we opted for upgrading (140USD per week) to a Ocean View. This was well worth the money as the rooms are simple but the view was spectacular! We loved watching the sunset in the evening and the cruise ships coming in in the morning. There is no beach, but we brought our snorkle gear and enjoyed snorkeling off the hotel. The pools were nice but we only went in them once. Drinks were expensive, but happy hour makes it worth it. The resturant was good, the mexican food on the menu was quite nice. The prices were reasonable and when you added a 5 dollar cab ride (3 or 4 dollars plus tip) it was usually a better deal then going into town. We ate at the hotel 1/3 of the time, went out 1/3 and bought groceries and filled our fridge for light breakfasts and lunches. We rented scooters from the hotel conceirge and enjoy a couple of days going around finding beaches and cute little places to have a drink on the beach. Very nice island!

Overall, the stay was nice. Room was decent, bathroom was dated and bed was comfortable. I would probably rather stay somewhere closer to the rest of the town/attractions. I also think I may like all-inclusive better just because you don't have to worry about bringing money everywhere with you

  • Liked — Our view and the concierge was wonderful helping out with finding local dinner spots and finding things to do.
  • Disliked — too far off the main strip, no beach, only one resturant and one bar.

This is a great hotel with great staff. I stayed here for a week with my Mom and we had a great time. Cozumel in general is pretty laid back and this hotel is a great place to relax. They have a daily happy hour by the pool which is great and massages on the beach. A taxi ride into town was about $5. We took part in the time share thing that was there and although it was painful we did get a 1 day car rental for taking an hour out of our morning during breakfast. The rooms are not huge but are clean. All in all I would recommend this as a great family or low key destination.
