Ok, I gotta tell you, for my hard earned money, this place was just OK. Stayed here 3rd week in Feb '08 and read many of the glowing reviews before booking...sorry, I don't get it. Booked with Worry-Free (NWA), one room on street side (room 709) for about $750 for the week with air, with breakfast included. Here's my take on this place. It's a place for hard core scuba divers/snorkling and older crowd. I'm 55 and I was one of the younger patrons. There is NO beach. They have a man made area of sand and umbrella's, but the only way to get into the ocean is a ladder from a concreate slab into 25ft deep water. The "pools" are a joke. There are two seperate "pools" , one colder, one warmer, both are about 3 feet deep max. More like oversized wading pools. The "hot tub" was cold and the "jets" are no more powerful than a squirt bottle (why would a hotel offer such wimpy pools and whirlpool?). Rooms are clean, but just OK, "jungle" view is actually on the street side (main highway-traffic noise in room) and "jungle" is just the undeveloped land on the other side of the road. Pedro will hussle you for a time-share showing and offer a free days worth of Jeep rental or some cash...it's all so old RCI stuff. Place is actually kind of boring, not much to do, you can only go to "town" so many times, and after seven days, I'm ready to go. Staff is friendly but SO SLOW...someone needs to light a fire under these guys, drinks are essentially vigin, overpriced: BYOB and spike all drinks. I've stayed in a couple of other areas in this locale (Playa del Carman, and Maya area) and this place just isn't worth it. Warning: I rented a jeep for a day from the inhouse lease guy, and my Jeep had: No spare tire, no rear view mirror, nor a working horn (dog in the road almost found this out the hard way), bald tires and no floor mats-floor gets HOT from engine. I bought all the extra insurance and then was informed that if the Jeep was stolen, I had no coverage for theft!. Finally, the contract you sign on the back of the page was all in Spanish...so unless you are fluent, who knows what you are agreeing to??Check your deductables with VISA or whatever card you use FIRST. If you can, go to the other side to see the unspoiled oceanic world of this island. Wild surf, vast expanses of sand and virtually no people. A couple of small bars along the coast, really neat. Visited one of the maya "ruins" which was the size of a single car garage...luckily it was free. OK, you decide. Reveiws just seems overly glowing for what I saw.
