This hotel is very nice. We arrived at the hotel and were given fruit drinks with pineapple and watermelon adornments and lots of ice. You are given cards for towels and you have to get the towels from the pool area and trade them in when needed, but you have to end up with the exact amount of either cards or towels at the end of your stay or pay handsomely for the "lost" towels. The staff is very nice, and most speak English and understand English well. You can convert money in the lobby at the front desk, but you have to watch a worker named Erika, who will try to give you too little money. BRING A CALCULATOR and figure your conversion amount before you go down to exchange money. Don't be afraid to confront them if you receive too little money. The staff can also give you great advice on where to eat, and sometimes give you coupons for free drinks. The cleaning staff is wonderful. A big issue with us at this hotel was the electricity. In a suite (we had three bedrooms, three bathrooms, a kitchen and a sitting area - plus three balconies), you only get a "hot plate" to cook on. It's not really a stove. No oven. There are dishes and tableware and a nice refrigerator and a microwave. The microwave was not very powerful. Really we figured out that cooking in the suite wasn't going to work well, although we did have one good meal "at home". Electricity is tricky. You have to insert one of your room cards into this thing to allow electricity to be turned on. The breaker flipped several times when we were cooking with the microwave and had on the a/c. The last day we couldn't get the TV on. BUT, amidst all these negatives is a MAJOR POSITIVE. The restaurant is wonderful, and the REEF OUTSIDE THE HOTEL is just incredible. It was worth it for the snorkeling right there at our door! The little issues were resolved, and all in all it was a fantastic trip. You do have to watch for the salespeople in the lobby who will offer you free drinks, free diving, etc to get you to take a tour of property. Ignore them. We did not get sick from food or water until the last night - we ate at Ernestos and my husband and I got sick. Ugh. But the memories of Coral Princess are good ones.

  • Liked — The reef right out the door!
  • Disliked — The electricity issue.

I stayed at this property three years ago in the one bedroom suite, and thought of it again when planning a get-away to Cozumel. We contacted the Coral Princess via e-mail to inquire about the chances of getting an ocean view studio room for a week in November and the reservationist was very helpful and prompt.
Upon arrival, we were surprised that they were able to check in at Noon (I'm sure this is due to our stay being during low-season) - we anticipating having to wait and initially asked the front desk to store our bags until 3pm check in time. When our bags were delivered to our room they were accompanied by a couple of rum punches - yum!
Our room was on the seventh floor - small but clean and comfortable with a sizable restroom and plenty of drawers and closet space. Air conditioning is operated by remote control, and a safety deposit box is available at no extra charge. We did not have a balcony, but we did have a floor-to-ceiling sliding glass door with a railing so we could get fresh air. The view was outstanding - we called the bed nearest the window the 'infinity bed' because from it all you could see was turquoise ocean - it was just beautiful.
The grounds are well kept and clean, with a minimum of day-trippers from the cruise ships using the beach and pool area. The pool was split - half heated, half not, and the swim-up bar area provided food and drink at very reasonable prices - their fish tacos were as good as any we found elsewhere on the island. There are plenty of lounge chairs and umbrellas, as well as spa treatments and a jacuzzi on the beach.
Snorkeling along shore is easy and fun with plenty to see - we saw two different kinds of eel, several rays and flounder, and a myriad of colorful reef fish along the rocky shoreline. The on-site dive shop gave clear and friendly instruction in the pool to anyone curious about scuba diving.
We ate most breakfasts at the hotel, as well as several lunches, with absolutely no ill affects from doing so. Food was well-prepared and service was quick and friendly.
The hotel does have a vacation club, and the people that staff the small desk are very friendly and very understanding if you are not interested. We were approached our first day, and after some conversation, we made it clear that we weren't interested at this time - for the rest of the week we were greeted with smiles, and sales pitch was non-existent.
Check-out was quick and painless and our bill was clear and accurate with all back-up documentation at our fingertips in case of discrepancy.
I travel to Cozumel frequently and usually stay with friends, but when I need a beach-side treat, I'll definitely consider the Coral Princess again!

  • Liked — Clean, comfortable
  • Disliked — Rooms could be a bit more colorful - hotel is going for the 'spa' look - not my favorite!

Nov 26, 2007 | Trip type: Couples

We stayed at the Coral Princess from Nov 3 - Nov 10, 2007. We had booked it as a time-share exchange through RCI, but after reading some reviewer's comments wondered if we had done the right thing.
We had absolutely no problems at all - our stay exceeded our expectations on every level.
The staff were very friendly and personable, even after we passed on a time-share purchase.
Food at the restaurant was excellent, wonderful service. Have the Mayan coffee - Aleandro was great - what a show!

Our rooms on the timeshare side were huge. We had traded a hotel unit and recieved a large 1 bedroom unit that could have easily accomodated another couple.
Large bedroom with it's own separate balcony, and second patio door to the large covered patio off living room.
Standard size bathroom - loved the huge tub - twice the size of the American standard. Vanity and sink were outside the bathroom itself - much nicer than in - and the entire area was fronted by a mirror wall.
Kitchen area was well equipped for 6, with average size fridge, microwave, toaster oven, blender , toaster, etc. Pass through arch from kitchen to dining room which had glass-topped rattan dining table with upholstered seating for six.
Living room with sleeper couch, chairs , tables, area rug, and a fabulous view out the window wall/patio door to the main patio. Patio was much larger than standard - 2 padded loungers and full outdoor dining set. Hooks set into wall for drying dive gear, rash guards and swim wear are a nice touch.
All furnishings were above average, lots of white so everything looks extra crisp and clean. Marble floors and counters, huge louvered closet area in bedroom, 2 TVs, in room safe, hairdryer, iron and ironing board, complimentary shampoo, lotion etc.
Maid service was excellent, unit kept very clean, little towel sculptures left nearly every day. We tipped the maid a few $ every day - but she did awonderful job. We had no maintenance problems.

Personal notes to help others: If you are the type of person that must have a large crowd and constant activities this may not be the place for you. It is a relatively small intimate resort with a lot of low-key personal attention. There is a swim up bar - Isidro the bartender does an excellent job and knows your name and favorite drinks in less than a day. There is also a goodsized Jacuzzi, 2 standard sized pools, a second poolbar,/snackbar and a massage area. This hotel is frequented by a lot of divers and snorkelers who make use of the on-site diveshop. There are concrete steps into the water for snorkeling and it is quite good right off the resort. We went nearly every day and saw lots of fish, including a cowfish, flounders, rays, an eel and even a sea snake.
The public areas of the hotel are very nice: Quiet elegance rather than the flamboyance of some of the larger resorts, which to me personally was very appealing. We are the type of travelers that truly enjoy getting out and exploring a lot of the area, always rent a car for at least a few days, and enjoy trying different local restaurants. This resort was excellent for that as it wasn't too far from town ($3 cab fare) as opposed to a lot of the huge all inclusives which are further out and much more expensive to travel from.
In conclusion, the Coral Princess is a beautiful resort. It is close to town, has great snorkeling right there, wonderful freindly staff, good food and drinks, and fantastic suites with wonderful ocean views. When we go back to Cozumel - we will go home to the Coral Princess.

My sister and I stayed at the Coral Princess for one night in cozumel and really enjoyed the hotel. The room was clean and comfortable. We booked through Orbitz and got a good rate. The hotel is very close to the downtown area and about a $3-5 cab ride depending on who you ask. You can always bargain with them.

One more thing, make sure you bring enough toiletries and other necessities beforehand. We ran out of toothpaste and ended up paying $8 (USD) for a tube of Colgate at the hotel gift shop. Scary.

My husband and I stayed here 10/23/07 - 10/30/07 and didn't want to leave to come home! Booked online with expedia and had an ocean view room with king sized bed. Room was spot-less, no bugs (as referred to in some other reviews). Had a mini-fridge in the room for soda and juice - a safe in the closet for valuables. The staff was just the best - can't say enough about the doorman Pedro, concierge Choncita and tour planner Andres. They were all wonderful and catered to our every need. Great snorkeling right in front of the hotel (be careful of the currents). We went there primarily to scuba dive but the weather at the start of our week was too rough to dive in so only dove 2 days at the end of our week with Pepe Scuba which is right at the hotel. They were great - Abdias was a fabulous dive master - pointed out lots of little things we might have missed on our own. The diving is the best ever - water is warm (85 degrees) and the visiblity is at least 100 ft. Definately rent a car or jeep and drive to the other side to the island - the beaches are pristine. Coconuts was fun for lunch. Had great quesadillas at Los Otates in town. San Gervasio ruins are interesting and worth a visit. Also took the ferry to the mainland and toured Chichen Itza (a long all day tour but worth it). Caves at Aktun Chen on the mainland are interesting to see also. We've taken alot of vacations but this was without a doubt the best. We've already made our plans to return in May for our anniversary.
