At the end of May we went to Cozumel and stayed at Hotel Cozumel and Resort. We were greated with cold drinks and wash cloths. Our stay was very relaxing, the pool was great, the staff very attentive, espec. when you would tip. Don't get me wrong, they treated you great either way. Tipping was included in our package, but we tip here in the U.S. and they make more here per day then in Mexico.
We were with our son and his two boys, both of whom made use of the pool and snack bar. That made me glad we had gone all-inclusive. The rooms were kept clean, in fact, it seemed like the place was being cleaned and taken care of 24 hours a day. Towels were folded into shape of ships or swans, flower petals placed on newlymade beds. My son did his first scuba dive, taught by a man named Jordan, who made sure he completely understood everything. Snorkling was good, and the view of the ocean at lunch was great. We could see cruise ships coming and going, also, dive boats. The tunnel under the road was well lit and had large pictures of fish/ we also saw a few small anoles on the upper walls near the gardens. This hotel is only a little way from town, and taxi's were always ready. It was about 4-6 dollars to town, depending on where you wanted to go, and that was for 5 people. Not bad. Shopping really was better off the main road about a couple of blocks off and at their market near the center of town. It was really hot by mid-day and was great to go back to the hotel, and sit by the pool where a member of the staff would get you what you wanted to drink if you were too tired to do it yourself.
The night show were pretty good, although they seemed to have the same rythmn, but the dancers gave it everything they had. The staff that played with the children were great.
You don't have to dress-up for dinner, but men have to have a t-shirt or shirt with sleeves on, or you get sent back to change, my son did, but it didn't bother him. He said no problem, this is their country and rules. They were very curteous/attentive even though it was buffet style. At the beach club across the street at night we could have ordered off the menu, but we found with the kids there was more then enough. This hotel can help you rent jeeps, moped heads. They have bikes you can use for free. If you like driving on one lane with people weaving in and out all the time, ok, but taxi's were just fine. I would recommend this hotel to people, but remind you that they are still fixing up their beach area.
They have a sandy area where you can sit, have something to drink and watch the sunset, but then steps go into the ocean and you can walk out about to your waist, then it drops off some, but great snorkling. All in all, it was a very relaxing vaction for myself, my husband and our son and his two boys. It was hard to pack the last night and realize that it was over. Would we go back? You bet, we cannot replace the memories of our son doing his first dive, of grandchildren swimming, snorkling, hitting up the snack bar, or the friendliness of the staff and how welcome they made you feel. By the way, check out the museum in town, it is very interesting and they have a mayan hut set up. Anyway, I hope you have a great time at this hotel. It was filled also with a lot of divers, and we learned a llot about dive sites, met some great people, enjoyed a wonderful country and culture. One word of warning. Due to the set up of their bathroom system, when shopping downtown, they don't want toliet paper thrown into the toliet. The few from the beaches or the Mc Donalds, or the Museum resturant are nice. Hope you have as great a time as we did. Can' t wait to go back.
