We stayed at Hotel Cozumel for 6 nights during a dive trip.
Pros-
All employees at the hotel were very courteous and aimed to please.
They have activities just about all day and night around the pool.
The buffet style meals were great for buffet style meals.
Food from the menu was good, albeit slow.
Close to the beach (someone was thinking about the drunks when they built the tunnel under the road to the beach)
For the money this is a great hotel

Cons-
Older amenities, but kept.
The drinks are weak until you throw a $5 in the tip jar
The entertainment is weak

Really, if you think about were you're staying and what you're paying, there are no cons.

We had a great time. Rafael, Martin, Esther and Estria all did a good job making a laugh around the pool with their activities.

I repeat, Mexico is NOT the U.S.! So if you are expecting US style accomodations across the board, I recommend vacationing IN the U.S.! I laugh as I read reviews, people complaining about bugs, rain, etc. Cozumel is a TROPIC location--there are bugs and rain in the tropics~hello?!?!?

This was the second time I have been to Cozumel, and this hotel was a good middle of the road place to stay. They were doing construction after the hurricane, but it was not particularly noticeable, as it was on the far roof, and pretty quiet. I thought actually that Expedia should have mentioned this since we booked through them!

The food was pretty good, as long as you understand that Mexican foods/ingredients taste a bit different than at home. Pan Dulce doesn't taste like Krispy Kremes! And, there is enough variety at the buffet that you can skip the stuff you don't know/care for and stick to the familiars. Breakfast has an omelette bar, and eggs, beans, etc. It is a buffet, which is always a culinary compromise I think...The portions at dinner off the menu were rather small, but the teeny seafood kabob was tasty. I steered clear of the Chinese themed night (when in Rome, eat spaghetti!). The servers were charming and very attentive, no dirty plate sat for more than a minute! Since it was rainy season, the restaurant was never even close to full.

Our room was fine, the beds are a bit hard, and (as I just now read in another post,) the AC does leak if you turn it off...we thought it was from the rain and requested another room, which they transferred us to promptly.

The pool is awesome and large...the desk people were nice...the maid I met spoke no English, but hey, we are in Mexico, right? There are always taxis waiting outside. The concierge was very friendly too.

This is a good hotel if you:
-are not someone who holes up in your room all day. It is serviceable but not luxurious.
-don't mind a short walk into town
-aren't looking for pearly white wade in beaches. There is a dive dock, a pretty gazebo right over the water, and a sandy area with chairs but it is not a pearly white spread.
-are here to scubadive or just party or are on a bit of a budget.
-love to crank the AC in your room-they've got it!
-can appreciate a lot of spanish tile, palms and plants, and a great big pool!
-forgot to bring a travel candle (I did forget but there was no funky smell, to my relief).

This is not a good hotel (or island to visit) if you:
-freak out about a few bug bites (got a couple on my ankles when sitting at the computer by an open window)
-demand piping hot food with loads of variety (Mexicans aren't as in love with fusion cusine, microwaves and heating lamps as we are)
-blame your hotel for weather, humidity, heat, or acts of God
-can't walk across the street to get to the beach
-get upset when you go to another country and not everyone speaks the language you do
-you are put out by thin walls (you can hear people talking in the hallway).
-need fast computer service--it is dial up.

I am getting married in Cozumel next year and will be staying in a more luxurious hotel because it is a special occasion. But, if I were coming here to dive with some pals and kick back--this place would be just fine!

We just returned from our 4th stay.We have always been very happy with this little place. The morning meals and lunch are very nice, great assortment.Every one is very gracious.Always greeted with a smile and a kind word. The pool is large and really nice. Nice pool bar and snack area. The rooms are nice ,everything worked. Our room faces the street and the views are great .However, it is not a sand beach property. They do have that great tunnel to a beach club area. There is some sand, and a great tanning area.Pool, bar and food area. Water entry is made from a series of stairs, wooden and stone. There is a great dive shop.People are all very warm and friendly.Every thing from snorkel to boat dives.Resort is within walking distance to town.Great location. Can't say enough about this place. One of the best 2star hotels around.I think it deserves more credit.

Hotel Cozumel Resort is the best all around resort. I have been coming to Cozumel for seven years. I decided to stay at Hotel Cozumel due to the recent renovation at Plaza Las Glorias now called Cozumel Palace. Hotel Cozumel is within walking distance to town. This allows you the feedom to access town without the high taxi fares. A grocery store is within two blocks that has everything your could ever need while on vacation. The resort is not on the beach but has easy access with the underground tunel or simply crossing the street. Dive Paradise is on site providing all of your diving if you choose. The food is the biggest complaint in Mexico. We have to understand that processing of food is different in Mexico. However, the food at Los Arcos was the best I have ever had in Mexico. The all inclusive option is great but keep in mind town is just a short walk or $4 taxi ride not $20 from the southern hotels. I was impressed by the on-site gym, it actually has free wights. The staff was wonderful and the rooms were clean. Get use to different smells you are in Mexico. Enjoy your trip

We just returned from Cozumel. We couldn't have asked for more perfect weather. The food at the Hotel was very good. Take note, there are nights that they rotate the food selection, so read the menu before choosing which restaurant to dine at in the evening. The breakfast is good with a variety of choices each day. The pool is nice in that it is never too crowded as it is so big. The rooms were average. Be sure to not turn off the AC as this will cause a huge pool of condensation on the floor! The staff was very friendly and courteous. Be sure and be extra special nice to the bartender at the pool, he makes one mean MANGO MARGARITA - Oh Baby!!!! **Bring a large plastic cup with lid for your drinks, as they only give you 6 oz glasses at a time. They will gladly fill your cup full, if you have one.

My one and only complaint is that this in NOT beachfront property. There is no beach to speak of near this hotel. If you are a diver, this is the perfect place for you. However, if you are wanting to lay out at the beach close to your hotel, this is not the place for you! There is a public beach within 3 miles of the hotel, but you must ride a taxi or rent a car to get there.
