We just returned from a week long trip to Club Cozumel with our two college age kids. Since we all dive, we wanted an all inclusive resort and liked the idea it was walking distance to town with an onsite dive operator. We all enjoyed this feature and it really negates the need of a car. Overall, our stay at the Club Cozumel didn't let us down. Location is great (about 1/2 mile into town), the all inclusive food is better than average with the choice of two restuarants, two pool side bars with the larger including a nice snack bar. Don't expect upper end, in-town restaurant quality food, but it comes at a great price and we opted for the inclusive beverage which made it a better value. In town eating can really add up in Cozumel, so be prepared. I would definitely recommend going with at least the meal option and eating in town when you need a switch.
All the rooms are nice and clean with some of the best air conditioning I've experienced in Mexico. Most rooms surround the large main pool. Since the main hotel is on the left side of the street, there isn't much in the way of ocean view so don't get hung up on this when making a reservation, but most have a nice patio and chairs looking over the pool. One main complaint is our room location near the spa and pool bar which became rather noisy by late night activity. I would ask for a room away from this area the next time.
Since we all dive, we opted for the onsite diving facility of Dive Paradise. The small dock across the street from the main hotel was a nice convenience. *If you want to dive with smaller diving groups, ask for the smaller, fast boats, but this is geared for more advanced divers. We also heard great things about Dive with Martin which will also pick you up at the hotel dock.
Beaches are a premium in Cozmel, particularly close to town, but the hotel did have a nice iron shore beach with chairs and some cover with good access to snorkeling and swimming. This area also had a small pool which was great for late afternoon sunsets while enjoying a libation or two. This is also the main lunch and dinner location if you want to sit in a more outdoor setting. *We thought the food was better in the main hotel restaurant.
One word of caution. The Club Cozumel is doing a nice job of creating a lot of daily activities around the main pool. Volleyball, music, etc. It can be a little distracting if you want total piece and quiet, but it keeps things busy and most of the people seem to enjoy it. The small beach at the water is much more quiet and laid back!
We think it's one of the best values in Cozumel with a very good location, solid overall quality and a nice, friendly staff. (the in room towel work is great)
*If you don't mind being a little north of town and want to golf, check out the Playa Azul. Hotel looks great and the Nicklaus designed course looks very good, but not an ideal for diving. Would not recommend for older kids since it's pretty laid back. Seemed to be geared for adults.
