We just spent a week at Hotel Cozumel and really enjoyed ourselves. We had second floor/poolside rooms. The rooms are nice. Typical size for a hotel. Not too noisy (from the people poolside). Nice to be there with the air off and the doorwall open! All rooms had balconies with towel bars and posts to hang up your wet suits and such. The food varied from great to okay. We were doing the all-inclusive and by the end of the week, well, let's just say there were no surprises on the menu. We did find that the ocean side restaurant had a better lunch buffet than pool side. Also, we were told you had to have a reservation for ocean side dinners, but tried it one night and there was open seating.
We didn't rent a car, but did walk into San Miguel. A quick and comfortable walk. The town was nice. There were a couple of cruise ships in, but it didn't seem too crowded. The people working all tried to get you to shop at their shops, but I didn't find any to be too pushy. There is a grocery store just about 5 minutes from the Hotel, so be sure to check it out. One thing I should have done was buy hot sauces or other specialty foods there because they are very expensive at Duty Free.
We took a taxi (prices are negotiable) to San Francisco Beach. Very nice. Sandy beach, activities, bar and food. Snorkeling there was so-so only because there were few fish to see.
The pool is very nice. The young people working the area (activities, shows, bar) were the best! Everyone of them was very friendly and eager to please. I also found the staff at the Hotel to be very friendly. There are bikes to use (which we did, twice) and free, wireless internet. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will probable return sometime in the future.
