We just spent a week at Hotel Cozumel and really enjoyed ourselves. We had second floor/poolside rooms. The rooms are nice. Typical size for a hotel. Not too noisy (from the people poolside). Nice to be there with the air off and the doorwall open! All rooms had balconies with towel bars and posts to hang up your wet suits and such. The food varied from great to okay. We were doing the all-inclusive and by the end of the week, well, let's just say there were no surprises on the menu. We did find that the ocean side restaurant had a better lunch buffet than pool side. Also, we were told you had to have a reservation for ocean side dinners, but tried it one night and there was open seating.

We didn't rent a car, but did walk into San Miguel. A quick and comfortable walk. The town was nice. There were a couple of cruise ships in, but it didn't seem too crowded. The people working all tried to get you to shop at their shops, but I didn't find any to be too pushy. There is a grocery store just about 5 minutes from the Hotel, so be sure to check it out. One thing I should have done was buy hot sauces or other specialty foods there because they are very expensive at Duty Free.

We took a taxi (prices are negotiable) to San Francisco Beach. Very nice. Sandy beach, activities, bar and food. Snorkeling there was so-so only because there were few fish to see.

The pool is very nice. The young people working the area (activities, shows, bar) were the best! Everyone of them was very friendly and eager to please. I also found the staff at the Hotel to be very friendly. There are bikes to use (which we did, twice) and free, wireless internet. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves and will probable return sometime in the future.

I arrived on a Monday afternoon for a six night stay. Check-in had no record of my reservation. I was glad I had my confirmation paper work with me. Hotel Cozumel staff is excellent It is a beautiful facility with all guest rooms facing a beautiful, spacious inside court yard and swimming pool, except for maybe ten rooms per floor that face the front street. They put me in a ground floor room that faced the street. The road traffic noise kept me awake most of the night and woke me by five a.m. not feeling rested at all. (I don’t know if the second and third floor rooms facing the street have the same noise problem). I complained to the front desk and with a lot of persistence on my part was moved Wednesday morning to an inside ground floor room. This room was perfect. The hotel is great, the activities are terrific. But, I wouldn’t stay there again unless I knew I would have an inside guest room. Second issue, if you use Dive Paradise (the hotel concession) for your scuba boat dives, check your dive weights poundage very carefully to insure it is what you asked for. I know it’s the divers responsibility to check but they realy had a lot of trouble with it and I will use another dive service provider on my next visit.

Well, maybe they were having a bad week the week that I was there....but....

...I just got back last week from 9 days at this resort. Here's the short list to things that were just ridiculously unacceptable for someone who paid good money to stay here:

1) Our beds were NEVER made prior to 4:00 PM....NEVER ONCE. Since we were there to dive...to come back to your hotel room after diving all morning and not have the beds made is just ridiculous....SO, as such...there were no clean towels. But it's not like we were going to wait for our room to be made to take a shower so we'd call to have towels brought up to the room. NEVER did they arrive sooner than 1 hr....EVER....despite multiple phone calls.

2) They only have coffee out in the morning so other times during the day, you have to order it from the resturant. I walked into the restaurant one evening for a cup of coffee. I wait at the bar, waiting for the bartender to finish drying his glasses (for 5 minutes...there's noone else at the bar). He finally asks me what I want...I tell him coffee. He puts the styrofoam cup under the electric machine...it pours the coffee within 1 minute and the guy lets it just sit there...mind you, THERE IS NOONE ELSE AT THE BAR. After literally 4 minutes, I say "Hey Sir, do you think that coffee is still warm?" He says, "Oh, it was done, just sitting there" I say, "Were you expecting me to walk behind your bar to get it?" He hands me the coffee. I ask him for sugar and milk. He hands me packets of sugar......no milk, nothing to stir it with. He walks away. I sit there for 2 more minutes, thinking the guy is going to squeeze milk from a cow in the back or something. Finally, disgusted, I walk through the lobby to the elevator. Next thing, the guy taps me on the shoulder and asks me for $2 for the dixie cup full of cold coffee with no milk. I told him he can have his frigging coffee back considering I had waited 15 minutes at this point and he didn't give me the milk or anything to stir the sugar with!! I also told the resturant manager what abysmal service this was...as if he cared.

3) We were getting ready to get on our dive boat one morning and went to get some beach towels (by the pool)...apparently, the guy wasn't there at the moment so we went to the front desk to see if someone other than the towel czar could get us 2 towels, as we had a boat to catch. They said "No, the towels are available whenever the guy gets back"....this was about a 50 yard walk to the towel booth. Some service, eh?

4) Next was the CONSTANT screw ups with the dive boat operators....we had PREPAID and pre signed up for all our dives the entire 9 days....they NEVER got it right. We ended up missing 2 dives because they didn't have our names on the list....despite making sure we were signed up the previous night. When confronting them the next day, they made it seem like we hadn't talked to anyone...even though we were talking to the same person in MANY cases...it was almost like they got a rise out of screwing with you in this passive-agressive fashion. Utterly ridiculous. This goes into WAY more detail and I really should document how incompetent this operation really was...but let's say I had to end up talking to the OWNER of the entire company to get my money back for the dives not taken.

We just returned from a 4-night stay with our two kids, ages 10 and 5. We all loved it! The pool is incredible, and tons of shallow areas for the kids. There are poolside activities and games they can play, as well as the adults. The hotel is very clean, staff is very helpful, food was better than what I expected from the reviews. We enjoyed the breakfasts, ate burgers at the poolside or beachside grill for lunch, and had our dinners in town. I would suggest renting a jeep for a day to drive to the other side of the island where the sandy beaches are. Mr. Sancho's beach is free to get in, has a neat cabana bar where you sit on swings, they have a full menu, and a pool. You can also ride horses or do an ATV jungle tour. There's a Reggae restaurant a little further down from Mr. Sancho's, and their ceviche and shrimp tacos are awesome! It's right on the beach, too. It's $60 to rent a jeep for 24 hours...but well worth it. You can take it town that evening for dinner. I felt very safe in Cozumel, and at this resort, with the kids. We spent a day in town shopping...don't forget to bargain with the shop owners for lower prices! This was a great vacation, and I am extremely pleased with the hotel and all they had to offer. I would go back here without hesitation.

Stayed at hotel cozumel the first week in Nov. The rooms was,not the greatest, but was clean. The hotel grounds was very nice, the food was great. I know some people write about how awful the food was,but my group of 15 divers all agree that the food was fine. But our last day at the hotel , we had our last lunch , that was awful. I think, it really depends on who is doing the cooking. Now about the drinks, well I could not believe that the hotel carryed jim beam, my drink, top shelf. After 7 nights of 4 hard core JIM BEAM drinkers the hotel went thru several cases. also the hotel is in walking distance to town. Taxis is only 3 dollars each way.
