I hope this review of the "NEW" Hotel Cozumel & Resort will give it a deserved boost in its ratings.
I had never stayed at this hotel prior this visit. We have been to Cozumel 10 times over the past eight years. We arrived on Wed. July 14th and stayed until Sat. July 17th.
I would like to address some complaints voiced by some of the other reviewers. First lets remember we are in Mexico, not the United States or Canada.
To apply the same standards to food and accommodations in Mexico to more developed
nations is truly unfair.
1. Our room was cleaned spotless every day by 11:am. O.K. now I will let you in on the secret.
Use the door hanger during your entire visit. When you are in your room display the do DO NOT DISTURB side and when you leave the PLEASE CLEAN MY ROOM side. The cleaning staff is not psychic and this will help them to know you are not in your room and they will clean it first.
2. Many of the foods they serve are native to the island. We are on a island with no grain fed beef so don’t be upset if the beef tastes weird. Stick to sea food , it is fresh and always a good choice. Be open minded and adventurous try something new, you may be pleasantly surprised. Its all inclusive, if you don’t like it request something else from the kitchen. If you treat the wait staff with patience and kindness they will do everything to meet your needs. Breakfast was always great, and the lunch buffet at the beach club featured a good selection for everyone, and the al-carte menu for dinner was fantastic.
3. The best drink we found was the Mango Daiquiri. Stick with the sweet drinks or Beer. All inclusive use cheap local booze. This is the way they all do it in Mexico so don’t feel like the resort or hotel down the street is pouring the good stuff because they aren’t. They have a limited selection of top shelf booze but it will cost you extra.
4. All the grounds were perfectly manicured and constantly being cared for. The pool was large, lots of activities. If you are worried about the noise request a room on the south side, away from the main source of noise.
5. You are a $3us cab ride from the town square, and walking distance to the local grocery store "Chedraui". Buy all your grocery and personal care items here but you will need Pesos. This place is where the locals shop, prices are set and you will get the best price on the island.
6. The on property dive shop is Dive Paradise. I have dove with many of the islands dive operations and have found them to be the best. Their boats will pick you up at the pier in front of the beach club and they have trips to meet the needs of all levels of divers. They have large lockers by the beach so there is no need to keep all your heavy dive equipment in your room. A key for your locker can be had from the front desk when you check in. As an experienced diver I pay a little more for the small fast boats and the E.D.P experienced diver program. This garanties no more than six divers on the boat, no novice divers, and trips to the best dive sites. Dive computers are required for all E.D.P. dives. One can be rented from the shop for $10us.
My wife and I both agreed that this was our best trip to cozumel. For the money you will not find a resort that offers so much for so little. I am already planing my next trip to cozumel and I will stay with Hotel Cozumel & Resort.
