I hope this review of the "NEW" Hotel Cozumel & Resort will give it a deserved boost in its ratings.

I had never stayed at this hotel prior this visit. We have been to Cozumel 10 times over the past eight years. We arrived on Wed. July 14th and stayed until Sat. July 17th.

I would like to address some complaints voiced by some of the other reviewers. First lets remember we are in Mexico, not the United States or Canada.
To apply the same standards to food and accommodations in Mexico to more developed
nations is truly unfair.

1. Our room was cleaned spotless every day by 11:am. O.K. now I will let you in on the secret.
Use the door hanger during your entire visit. When you are in your room display the do DO NOT DISTURB side and when you leave the PLEASE CLEAN MY ROOM side. The cleaning staff is not psychic and this will help them to know you are not in your room and they will clean it first.

2. Many of the foods they serve are native to the island. We are on a island with no grain fed beef so don’t be upset if the beef tastes weird. Stick to sea food , it is fresh and always a good choice. Be open minded and adventurous try something new, you may be pleasantly surprised. Its all inclusive, if you don’t like it request something else from the kitchen. If you treat the wait staff with patience and kindness they will do everything to meet your needs. Breakfast was always great, and the lunch buffet at the beach club featured a good selection for everyone, and the al-carte menu for dinner was fantastic.

3. The best drink we found was the Mango Daiquiri. Stick with the sweet drinks or Beer. All inclusive use cheap local booze. This is the way they all do it in Mexico so don’t feel like the resort or hotel down the street is pouring the good stuff because they aren’t. They have a limited selection of top shelf booze but it will cost you extra.

4. All the grounds were perfectly manicured and constantly being cared for. The pool was large, lots of activities. If you are worried about the noise request a room on the south side, away from the main source of noise.

5. You are a $3us cab ride from the town square, and walking distance to the local grocery store "Chedraui". Buy all your grocery and personal care items here but you will need Pesos. This place is where the locals shop, prices are set and you will get the best price on the island.

6. The on property dive shop is Dive Paradise. I have dove with many of the islands dive operations and have found them to be the best. Their boats will pick you up at the pier in front of the beach club and they have trips to meet the needs of all levels of divers. They have large lockers by the beach so there is no need to keep all your heavy dive equipment in your room. A key for your locker can be had from the front desk when you check in. As an experienced diver I pay a little more for the small fast boats and the E.D.P experienced diver program. This garanties no more than six divers on the boat, no novice divers, and trips to the best dive sites. Dive computers are required for all E.D.P. dives. One can be rented from the shop for $10us.

My wife and I both agreed that this was our best trip to cozumel. For the money you will not find a resort that offers so much for so little. I am already planing my next trip to cozumel and I will stay with Hotel Cozumel & Resort.

First off, this hotel is in Mexico. If you are looking for an American hotel offering what you like in America, you won't find it here or anywhere else in Cozumel for that matter. The whole point of going to Mexico is to expreience a different culture, different people, and a different and way of life. If you want an American experience, go to Cancun. You will never know you left the US. That being said....

My wife and I have been to Cozumel for the diving 8 times over the past four years. We have stayed in four different hotels on the island. Hotel Cozumel is our favorite so far.

The rooms are clean, the air conditioning works great, and the maids do a great job, although they come a little later in the day than some would like.

The food is from average to great. Some dishes you will like, others you won't. Variety could be greatly improved, but for the all inclusive price difference, it's a good deal. The restaurant staff is attentive and humorous.

The pool is the biggest on the island and a great way of spending the day. You will meet a lot of nice people just by hanging out at the pool. My only complaint about the pool, is they are trying to do entertainment and games. They have staff that loves to yell through the speaker system, and it is quite loud for a couple of hours a day. We took a small sound machine for our room, and were able to take naps in the afternoon without hearing too much noise.

The diving in Cozumel is one of the top three places in the WORLD. Dive Paradise (the on-site dive shop) is very good. Our Dive Master, Luis, is one of the best we ever had. I would also book your dives ahead of time or at the main office as the on-site shop doesn't quite have it together.

The Hotel is close to town, which can save you quite a bit of money as cab fares from the outlying hotels can be $20 each way instead of the $4 at this hotel. If you can, go to "Primas" in town for dinner. We also found a quaint place called "Especias". They have great food, an amazing staff, and prices about 1/3 of the more well known places. They are at 5th Street and 10th Ave.

All in all this is a great way to spend a week. If you end up not liking it here, you probably won't like it any better anywhere else on the island.

Stayed here June 19-26, 2004. Was a little disappointed by the "beach", or rather the lack of it. I did not know that coral qualified as a beach. Once we revamped our vacation plan, we had a great time. Food was OK, but by the end was boring. Facility and staff were great! Got scuba certified somewhere else, much cheaper! If you are interested, email me for details. I would stay there again because of location (downtown 10 minutes away and a new movie theater and supermarket about 5 minutes away)

We've been to Cozumel three times and we are definitely hooked! It is a beautiful, wonderful place where we feel safe and can totally relax. Each time we have stayed at this hotel (originally Costa Club...then Hotel Brisas....and now Hotel Cozumel). Each time the food is good, people are friendly and knowledgeable, and the whole property is nice and clean. The beach area is a made one with a quick deep drop off into the ocean. Great for diving! However, I thought it important to mention that since the hotel has changed management again, their approach is all now towards all inclusive/all entertainment. I'm the type that likes peace and quiet and unfortunately we didn't find it this time. The hotel has lots of activities now....afternoon LOUD bingo (terrible if you are trying to take a nap) evening activities on the LOUD speaker again...and on the weekends they have a stage with VERY LOUD shows and there is no way one can sleep during them. If you like to be entertained, this is definitely a plus and I would always recommend this hotel, but I will be bringing small kids with us next time and wish to find a more quiet hotel with a nice beach for the kids to play. Cozumel mi casa!

We absolutely Loved Cozumel!! Read reviews and was expecting the worst. Shouldn't have!! Rooms were clean, AC worked well, had hot water, pool was great! The food was not great but you can find something, you won't starve. If you like guacamole, pico de gallo and chips you'll be in heaven. Staff very helpful, resort was great. We will return and take our kids this time.
