Just came back from a week at Hotel Cozumel & Resort (formerly Brisas).
I booked my holiday at the last minute - Saturday with a following Wednesday departure - then read the reviews... and it looked as if I made a wee bit of a mistake.

However all aspects of stay very consistent with a 3.5 star rating: food good (no lobster/shrimp but not a five star either) with fish, meat, vegetable and fruit choices daily. Maid service just fine. Bed comfortable. Resort clean & staff helpful. Drinks decent and service efficient.

Just got back from Hotel Brisas Cozumel. We were pleasantly surprised at the quality in view of the price and rating. However we had major problems with maid service. On 4 of our first 5 days, the room was cleaned very late in the day and never completed so we had to ask for towels and water. When we complained at the desk our concerns were taken lightly and when we asked for bottled water as we had not received any, we were not believed. On the 5th day when our room had been stripped before 3 pm and still left that way at 4:30 pm, we insisted someone come to look. The room was promptly completed by 5 pm; the head housekeeper came to check it and a hotel rep who spoke good English phoned to ask if the problem was resolved. Our room was done early and well for the rest of our stay. We left tips the first 2 days and found that didn't make a difference to the service - so don't bother. Some other guests were having the same problem while others found maid service prompt and efficient throughout their stay. Location in the hotel didn't seem to be a factor. Unfortunately, in our case only anger got results. The customer service cards they provided to rate amenities on check out did not include maid service.

If you like beaches, this location is not the best but it is a nice walk north to town or south to the cruise ship landing.

My husband and I just returned from a week at Hotel Brisas (now called Hotel Cozumel Resort).

I'll start with the good: 1. Clean room with a balcony overlooking the pool. The room isn't fancy, but it has a hair dryer, lock box, tv, alarm clock, bottled water, and air conditioning. 2. Beautiful swimming pool and private beach. 3. Lovely grounds. 4. I was pleasantly surprised by the snorkeling right off the resort's private beach (you can borrow gear from the hotel.) It was like swimming in an aquarium.
5. Enjoyable evening entertainment by local dance troupes.

Now for the bad: 1. Hard beds with a musty smell. 2. Though the service was excellent at the start of the week, it noticeably worsened (?) toward the end, despite tipping. Also, the bartenders seemed overwhelmed. Most of the time I saw only one bartender working each bar and the drinks are small. Be prepared to spend a lot of time in line for a drink.

And finally, the FOOD. Bland at best, the food was so unsatisfying that we ate many of our meals away from the resort.

We stayed at the Brisas last September because where we normally stayed was closed for renovations. At first we were rather impressed but this changed quickly. We had requested a second story double room (for security with dive gear) and got a ground floor - steet side room. The couple before us had requested the type room we had and was willing to change but we were told to check back the next morning. By the time it was all said and done we changed rooms 3 times. The second time was due to the A/C leaking and the ceiling slats peeling away. Instead of just repairing it they moved us. The rooms were not cleaned very well and the same dirty dishes sat in the hallways for 3 days even after it was pointed out to the front desk staff. The service and food in the restaurant was poor. The buffet was terrible. The menu selection was a little better if they allowed you to order from it. We had the all inclusive but choose to eat elsewhere. The front desk staff and manager were nice but nice only goes so far. We wanted a little quality also.
Will go back to Cozumel but will not stay at Brisas again.

My husband and I just returned from Hotel Cozumel and Resort and are very happy with our choice. The hotel was clean, the air worked well and was not loud. The bed was not as hard as I had read in other reviews. The drinks were great and we laid by the pool and they would serve us which was wonderful! The food was o.k. but we had eaten at other resturants as well and the food at hotel was up to par with everything we got everywhere else. The nice thing about this hotel is that you could walk downtown (to shopping, Carlos and Charlies, Senor Frogs etc.) and it took about ten minutes, or a cab was only3$. If you plan on shopping wait til there are no cruise ships and venture way to the back of the plaza (the prices are better). We enjoyed our poolside room, there was alot less noise. If you do want ocean side ask for something on the 2nd or 3rd floor or you won't see the ocean on the first floor. We recommend getting a cab or renting a jeep and going to the other side of the island, very beautiful and lots of beaches, bars, ruins etc. Just make sure the top on your jeep works in case of rain!! Chankanab is a park where you can swim with dophins, snorkel, swim, eat, its really pretty and the dophin swim is worth the price! All in all when we go back to Cozumel we will stay here again.
