We stayed at the Hotel Cozumel from January 25, 2004 - February 1, 2004. The hotel was very clean and well kept up. Rooms were cleaned every day. There might have been a few minor things that they needed to fix or remodel, but they were minor and were just cosmetic things. The beds are on concrete pads, firm, but do able. They put egg crates on top of them that help. The advertising of the place on the net had said that the rooms had coffee makers, iron, and televisions in each room. We saw none of these until the last day when they put a television in our room--which didn't work. Some of the reviews mentioned a musty smell, which we did smell, but that is to be expected with being in Mexico, high humidity and bringing dive gear in the room. As we said, the maids came in every day and cleaned up, taking care of all the wet floors that we had every day from us. We did come back to our room one night to find that they had spayed the baseboards of our room with some kind of bug spray. It was very strong and we had to leave our patio door open all night, plus the front door for a while to get the cross ventilation. The odor was gone in the morning-- hopefully we had no brain damage from whatever it was they were using. Didn't see any bugs either. The grounds were well groomed and manicured. You always saw workers either working on the landscape or painting, or doing some kind of up keep. The pool was nice, clean and appeared to be unheated. We didn't spend much time in the pool as we were off diving every day. All the employees that we came into contact with were very helpful and friendly, with a few exceptions with a couple of the bartenders. We weren't sure if they were just overworked as they only had one at each bar and were always busy, or they couldn't speak much English. The drinks on the all inclusive plan were very limited as to what you could have and the mixed drinks were lacking much alcohol, which is fine if you are doing a lot of diving, since you don?t want to be doing too much partying while diving. The food was, most of the time, good. If you are looking for gourmet food, you won't find it here. It is better than fast food restaurants. So plan for something in between. There is plenty to choose from in the Buffet restaurant. They always had dishes made with beef, chicken, fish, and pork. Food could have been hotter, but it is a problem trying to keep that much food warm. Beach party and Mexican night buffet were the best. You could always get a hamburger at the beach restaurant or pool restaurant in the afternoon. Guacamole and salsa was always good. We made reservations at their beach side restaurant for dinner (Los Girasoles), but don't bother, it wasn't worth it. The steaks you had to chase around and kill yourself! Well almost. The calamari was too tough to eat. Lime soup was good. The deserts were good. They had some sushi, which we don't eat, but the other couple that we were with said that it was real good. We paid for the Internet while we were there so that we could check our home messages. The encryption on their computer wasn't enough to gain access to our home system or some other websites that we needed to get to, to keep in touch with other people. If you go, set up a hotmail account before you go and have everyone contact you that way. The computer comes up in Spanish, so you need to get that changed over to English. Plus we never did figure out how to do the @ sign as their keyboard is different than ours and has 3 symbols on some of the keys. The taxicabs are not allowed in the airport for pick-ups, just drop offs. You have to use their shuttle service at $7.50 PP and they cram you in like sardines. If we were to do this again, we would suggest going outside the airport area and catching a cab to the hotel, which was $9.00 per couple in a private cab. When we returned to the airport on the way home, we were told from a driver that it would cost $10.00 for 4 persons, but then the hotel desk quoted us $12.00 and then when we went to get in the cab, they told us $14.00. We finally decided to just pay the $12. Through the hotel as nobody confessed to the $10. Fee, even the one we originally asked. They seem to know have fixed minimum prices as you can't dicker down, but they have no problem adding on some extra bucks, as a service fee, I suppose. Going into town is best done later at night when lots of the cruise ship people are either back at the ship or some of the ships have left. Saturday is a good day to go, as hardly any ships in town on that day. One day we had 9 ships in port at once and most of the days there were at least 6 or 7. Way too crowded to see much of the town. Another sad thing is with the arrival of so many cruise ships; all the great prices of Mexico are no longer to be had. They have marked up their prices to match US prices, don't dicker in prices and the clothes are defiantly less quality than you would find in the US and probably even cheaper at home. Lots of big name party spots, like Hard Rock, Senior Frogs and Carlos and Charles Is still going strong. There are a lot of fast food chains there now too. It is very commercial now. The diving is, of course fantastic. We dove with Paradise divers every day and they were great. They kept the amount of people that they put on the boats to 16 max, which we didn't always have that many. They would divide the groups up in twos and would space us out from us and other groups so that we weren't crowded on the reefs. We would and will go back in the future, staying either there again or trying another hotel. We were fine with our stay there and would recommend it to anyone looking for a good clean place to stay. All-inclusive is the way to go. You can eat as much or whenever you like most of the time. The price is good enough that you don't feel like you have to eat there all the time as we went to town twice to eat out, but still felt good about the all-inclusive price. You don't have to worry about carrying money around with you all the time and tips are included at the club. We did tip the dive crew $5. A day PP, but then we felt they were worth it. They take good care of you on and off the boat.

We've just come back from our stay at Hotel Brisas Cozumel. Hotel was very clean (no bugs), however, I found the room to be on the small size especially with three adults in it (no discount). Staff was very friendly and helpful. I would not hesitate to go back and stay at this hotel. Food was good and they have the biggest pool on the island. You can easily walk into town from this hotel to go shopping and the Chankanaab Park is only a $10 US taxi fare ride to go snorkelling.
Enjoy!

Just got back from 8 days in Cozumel staying at Las Brisas (formerly Costa Club, now called Hotel Cozumel and Resort).

We were very pleased with the hotel (pleasantly surprised especially considering the room rate). The rooms were very clean, maid service was good, grounds were well taken care of. With a AAA discount, room was only 75$ per night plus 10$ tax, not bad. The staff were all very friendly. We did not get the All-Inclusive package although many down there had it, to me it isn't worth the extra money.

To get to the beach, you have to cross the road or go through the tunnel (which goes under the road), to get to the Las Brisas beach area, which was really nice. They had a nice restaurant there with a bunch of sand and lounge chairs, a gazebo, and a dock for the dive boats. This was the best beach area that I saw down there, it was nice to have sand to sit/lie on and very well taken care of. Snorkeling off the dock was good. Going through the tunnel wasn't a bit deal at all as it takes about 30 seconds to get from the beach area to the hotel pool.
The grounds on the main hotel with the pool/ hot tub were beautiful--some of the bushes were cut to look like animals. I'd recommend the pool side view myself as it was very peaceful, if you get the ocean view you will be looking over the road which to me is worse and possibly louder.

No complaints at all from me regarding Las Brisas and I'd highly recommend it.

Went the week before thanksgiving 2003, staff courteous, food was fine, bed not too hard (I've had much worse in US), very nice pool area.
Brought my own pillow and didn't need it. TV and AC worked fine. Not musty in room. Porch helped for drying the scuba gear but there is a wet locker at the beach club which is easy to get to with the tunnel under the road.

You can walk to town about 1/2 mile to the shopping center.

Great value for me and most of the people there were enjoying their stay. Hotel changed names 3 times while we were there. Martin was excellent on front desk, Roberto in Dining room.

Daily, I left tips on pillow and each day I'd get a different swan and flowers along with fresh water refills. Hmmm. "just a spoonful of sugar makes the medicine go down." Damned gringos - just tip a little, be patient and kind - you will get much more back.

Once I asked what was in the shrimp pasta that made it tangy and they specially cooked me a shrimp bisque soup that was out of this world.
Not sure these others stayed at the same hotel. I'd go back in a minute to Costa club, Magic Sunset, Las Brisas, Hotel Cozumel - whatever it is this week.

Diving with Paradise was good. Try to get on the Experienced boats - you will pay about 10 bux more a day but it's worth it. Coral is fabulous.

My husband and I spent a week at the Brisas hotel in March 2003. We knew little about the resort before booking, and we were unsure of our choice after reading reviews. However, we were pleasantly surprised upon arrival. The resort by no means is luxurious. If you come with an open mind and positive attitude, you will have a good time. The main draw back was the beach. It is beautiful, but extremely small, rocky, and across the street. There is an inderground, private tunnel to the beach, however. When booking, do not ask for an oceanview room. You will see a glimpse of the ocean, and you will be right on a main street. A poolside room would be your best choice. The pool is very large and clean. The staff was very pleasant, polite, and energetic!
The food was the best, but it was plentiful and enjoyable! Cozumel is a wonderful vacation spot, and if you are traveling on a budget, the Brisas is a good choice! We booked our whole trip including R/T airfare from MSP, transfers, 7 nights all-inclusive, and taxes for only about $800/person- Not bad!! I definitely recommend a day snorkeling trip (best I've ever seen!!) and a day trip to Playa del Carmen. Hope this helps! ;-)
