Booked via DiveQuest
We travelled from York in UK via Manchester airport (flew Mytravel) direct to Cancun, bus to Playa del Carmen (ferry to Cozumel). Remarkably easy trip, we were at the hotel about 3 hours after landing.
Four of us (my partner, me and our two adult kids) stayed at the Casa del Mar for 2 weeks. Divequest booked us into the 'Penthouse' which is right at the front of the hotel next to the pool. This was a really good deal for us. It had two large bedrooms, the master with a huge bed and windows looking out to sea, the smaller with two smaller double beds and a glass door to the patio. Both had full ensuite facilities - showers, baths etc. It also had a kitchen-diner with useful cooking facilities, big fridge and outside a patio area. This meant we could do a little of our own cooking (and most importantly prepare English tea with BOILING water). Also had two CD players.
We did not use the CdM diving, which was in full swing and appeared fine, but the bridge and dive offices across the road are not in use. Instead, Scuba Du picked up from a small pontoon only a few yards away.
As others have said, the hotel is friendly, safe available, free internet etc. The separate beach club is very nice and quiet as it is not at the moment publicly open.
The restaurant is good value but the a la carte menu is quite limited, especially if, like us, you do not want to eat fish - after all it is live fish which are the main attraction of being in Cozumel.
Immediately around the hotel local businesses are still quite damaged. There are small convenience stores alongside, and internet-phone office beneath the hotel and a nice beach bar opposite for access to snorkel on the nearby reef.
A longish but pleasant walk along the front goes to the a very large excellent supermarket which is on the south end of central Cozumel. Cozumel town has all you need. Like most Brits we are put off by being shouted at by traders so, rather surprisingly to us, we found the nicest place to eat was Los Dorados de Villa on the south side of the central square - very extensive and varied menu and the food is good. It was the only place we found with properly hot peppers etc (Mexican food in Yucatun is remarkably bland) and cheap beer.
Cozumel remains damaged by the hurricanes, the reefs are partially damaged, but not sufficient to put anyone off.
