I was so pleasantly surprised after reading some of the reviews and then staying here. I thought this was one of the nicest places I've stayed for a reasonable amount of money.

The room was very large and the king sized bed was very comfortable (for Mexico) and had a hacienda feel to it. I had a nice balcony that was terrific for keeping wet towels, snorkel gear and just relaxing at night. The place was sparkling clean and the grounds immaculate. The hotel has a very nice native aura, fun palapa bar, and nice pool. I am a single female who traveled alone and felt completely safe and secure here. The hotel is south of the main town of Cozumel so it is wonderfully quiet and peaceful at night, yet still close enough to easily hop a cab to the action.

The staff at Casa Del Mar went out of their way to provide excellent service. In fact, this is probably the nicest service and most warm and friendly staff I've encountered at any hotel, anywhere I've been. I felt like I was treated like royalty.

I got a great deal here, but would have paid 2-3 times as much based on my experience.

If you like small hotels with a very local vibe, I think you'll enjoy Casa Del Mar very much.

My friend and I stayed at Casa Del Mar for a week in August 2008 and loved the experience. I will say that if you are not diving in Cozumel you should definitely stay somewhere else. I did not meet one person staying here that wasn't a diver. The hotel is extremely clean and recently renovated. The grounds are very nice and maintained immaculately. The tennis court is beautiful and looks brand new, my friend and I really regretted not bringing our rackets especially since I never saw anyone playing on it. The rooms were always perfectly clean with big showers and plenty of hot water. All of the employees were polite, attentive, and ready to help.
The restaurant was delicious with menu and buffet options. The drinks were fantastic and well made. Be sure to do the Full American Plan if you go, it is well worth it. The pool is nothing to write home about, but it did have a nice swim up bar. Although the hotel was very full, it never felt crowded anywhere we went.
There is some sand and lounge chairs across the street at the beach (a bridge connects the hotel to the beach area). Again don't expect much from the beach, but the water makes it all worth while - absolutely clear, blue, and gorgeous. Snorkeling isn't bad, and shore diving (free if you use del mar aquatics) is fairly good. We saw lots of fish, eels, rays, and octopus (at night) just off shore. Yes, the cruise ships do dock fairly close to the hotel, but not all the time, never more than one, and frankly who cares, they always were gone before the sun started to set so you still got to see that. Any complaints you read about this hotel are non factors if you are diving. To sum up my stay - Every morning I had an awesome breakfast with a fresh omelette made in front of me. I was gone from 8 to 1 every day diving. When I got back to my hotel I ate a delicious lunch with great drinks. Then sat the rest of the afternoon by the pool staring at the beautiful ocean with pina coladas by my side. I would then go on a free shore dive, come back and have a great dinner with wonderful friendly servers who quickly memorized my drink preference and had one ready. I slept in a comfortable clean room with a hot shower and cable tv with several english channels. Need I say more?

First, you do not get an ocean view. There are no ocean views. The room was nice and clean. The only reason I will never stay at CDM is the staff at the restaurant. They were very very rude. I’m not the ugly American and I have been to Cozumel since 1979 but will not stay at CDM ever again. We even gave them ½ of the fish we caught which was so fresh, well it was only 1 hour old but the next day rude rude rude. This is not Cozumel.

We just returned from staying at Casa Del Mar and were disappointed with the location. Upon waking the first morning we looked out to see two huge cruise ships. Not realizing when we booked, there are apparently two ports for cruise ships to come in on. Second the pool is lacking shade. There are no trees or umbrellas to get away from the sun. Besides, the hotel sits above a very busy road so it is really noisy at the pool. The beach at the hotel is hardly worth walking to. The hotel does have its own private beach however you have to pay your own way to get there. The hotel does not provide any transportation even though the hotel had two hotel vans sitting out front. If you stay in a casita, be prepared because there are no dishes or silverware. The only good thing about this hotel is the free internet. The restaurant at the hotel is terrible. Eat next door at Passion. Cute, clean restaurant and very good food. Dive shop across the street stinks.
