First off, I’m a travel agent and have been to tons of All-Inclusive resorts, and have been to the El Cozumeleno about six or seven times. It’s been about 4 years since I’ve stayed there but have plenty of repeat clients that tell me that the resort is still a very nice hotel.

We went on May 31st for 3 nights. Check in was a breeze as expected, even though our room was not ready. I didn’t expect that as it was 9:30 am when we arrived. They did put on our bracelets and were free to start enjoying the resort.

We stayed in room 201, which is in the North tower. The room was great and AC worked so good that we needed to turn it down. The room had two double beds, plus two twin sleepers and a nice large table. I was traveling with a buddy of mine so it worked out great.

The room was a perfect location to all of the activities and even though it was near the disco, you never heard any music from there.

The food at the El Cozumeleno has never been anything to write home about, but the breakfast was always a hit with fresh omelets as you wanted them. Service staff was very helpful and attentive. Lunch and diner at the buffet was very bland and not very good, however, the fajitas were pretty good. For lunch, just enjoy some chips and salsa.

The indoor restaurant was great and they’d added a new deal for the guest. I forgot to tell my buddy to bring long pants, so I thought we wouldn’t get a chance to enjoy the indoor restaurant. On Thursday night about 9:30, I notice people going in with shorts. When I asked about it, I was told that after 9:30, you do NOT need to have long pants on.

The next morning, I made reservations for us to eat at 9:30. No problems with getting a time and there wasn’t a long line to sing up.

The food was great there and I ordered Surf and Turf. My steak was fantastic!

The lobby bar was very nice and they even have nicer brand of alcohol down below so you’ll need to ask for it. Be sure to tip the waiters a little even thought it’s not required. They were all very nice and happy to fix anything you wanted.

Activities were plenty and the swim up bar was a hit for a group of us. We also had a great time playing volleyball in the pool.

Snorkeling was pretty good right out in front of the hotel, but if you walk south a ways before getting in, you’ll see tons of fish. Here is another tip. Take a roll from the breakfast buffet and put in a baggy. While you snorkel, open it up and let out some of the bread. You’ll have fish all over you.

The manager of the dive shop is pretty arrogant and not much of a people person, but I was able to overlook his attitude to have a good time. My buddy booked five dives and was happy with everything except of the manager’s attitude.

I rented a moped for 35.00 for 24 hours and cruised around the island. There were four of us that did that and we had a great time stopping off at several bars around the island for a beer.

All in all, I give the El Cozumeleno two thumbs up and can’t wait to go back.

I saw several employees that I remembered from years ago there and some told me that they’d been with the hotel as long as 30 years. The owners must take good care of them and they enjoy their jobs enough to stay. Maybe that’s why they’re so friendly to guest.

Hotel is only a 5 dollar taxi ride to town.

I went to El Coz (05.24.07-05.27.07), for my 10th year anniversary. I must say I had a blast! First, I would like to say Antonio at the dive shop is a wonderful guy. He knows his stuff. He will make sure you have a blast on the Sunset Cruise! I also had the pleasure of meeting nice, good speaking English workers. They work hard at their job, to make sure the customers are satisfied. The food was okay, but we were only there for breakfast and lunch. Make sure you eat the fresh cooked omelettes for breakfast, they are the best! At night we went to town and ate! I must say, you have to eat at the Formal Restaurant, they have good food there, not a big selection , but the food they have is worth trying. You have to get up early to make reservations, but once you make them , you can go back to your room and go to sleep. By the way this is a vacation, you did not go on vacation to sleep, if so you should have stayed at home! The drinks are excellent, I actually read the reviews and someone put make sure you bring your own hot-cold thermos, they really help because they do not have time to sanitize the cups, but you can ask for plastic cups, but you will have to continue to go back. Bring plenty on $1 bills, even though they do ask for tips or you do not have to pay these workers, it helps, and they appreciate it. The snorkling is beautiful on the Beach, but they also have a snorkling excursion you can pay for, but why pay if you can get the same thing at your hotel. I went for a relaxing atmosphere and that it was! El Coz, go above and beyond to make sure you are satisfied. I did not have a problem the whole time I was there. I will go back again this year!

OK.... Here is a short version...
A party of 7 arrived on Friday morning around 11am. 2 of the 3 rooms were ready and the third was ready just after lunch. The service was exceptional. If youve heard of Antonio, his service lives up to the hype. He, along with all the others were able to give professional service while keeping a smile on their face and being extremely personable at the same time. If you are looking for a night life this is not the place. But not all people go on vacation to get trashed all night and sleep all day. We stayed on the 8th floor and the view was beautiful. The food and drinks were better than some of the other AI's I have stayed at. The grounds and the rooms were both kept spotless the whole weekend. I watched from my balcony, there were people working late into the night prepping for the next day. This place, in my opinion was great. I got married on the beach just past the dive shop, and Genny the events coordinator made everything a breeze. From the Minister and the photographer to the bouquet of flowers for my wife to hold. Not one single thing went wrong. I would think that if a group of late 20 somethings can go to a place for a weekend and on the cab ride back to the airport nobody complains about anything, then the resort did a fantastic job. Everyone in our group had good things to say and all were talking about our next trip back to this resort. I hope this helps someone in their decision making process because Trip Advisor took all of my o.c.d. issues and put them at ease before the trip and the El Cozumeleno took care of the rest!

We just got back from an amazing stay at the El Cozumeleno Resort. Our only complaint is that we locked our money in the lock box and when we came back to the room from swimming, the money was gone! When we filed a report, we were told that there was nothing that the hotel could do...no complimentary jet ski ride, no free shirt, no "is there anything else we can do for you?", nothing. We were told that "it is not physically possible that it could have been stolen" and the we "must have misplaced it." Sorry.....we don't just "misplace" over $400! We don't have that money to just give away or "misplace". So my suggestion to all who stay here is keep you personal, valuable belongings in your sight at all times! Don't even bother to get a lock box key because believe me, there is obviously a way to get in them with out a key! Other than that, the stay was great! We were waited on hand and foot! The food was nothing to write about, but the drinks were never ending. We rarely ever had to ask for another drink. Most of the staff was very friendly and very helpful (with the exception of a couple of people who will remain nameless). The jet ski, parasailing, and snorkeling were all exciting. And we highly reccommend the Sunset Cruise trip. It was a blast! We met so many sweet, amazing, and friendly people (whom we hope to keep in touch with and we can't wait until our "Cozumel Reunion"). And a special thanks to Angel, Oscar, Alan, and Salvador. You all made this such an unforgettable experience. You all are wonderful, hilarious people and you made us feel at home when we were so far away! We won't forget you! Thank you so much for everything!

My boyfriend and I stayed at El Coz 5/12/07-5/17/07. It was a wonderful stay. Let me start off by acknowledging the staff, they worked so hard to make everyone's vacation a relaxing one! A few weeks before we arrived I emailed the resort and requested a room in the newer tower with a room on one of the higher floors. When we checked in (and we checked in a few hours early) our room was ready for us and it was exactly as requested. We were on the 9th floor...what a view! I was disappointed that the room didn't have a tub (I was aware of that when I booked it) but the size of the shower more then made up for it. It was spacious and most importantly very clean! The bed was a little hard, but it wasn't bad enough to keep me from sleeping. The music at the pool in the afternoon didn't bother me either.

The food in the open air resturant was good. I am a very picky eater, and I always found something to eat. Breakfast was my favorite meal of the day. There are birds... but it is outside. Just don't leave your table unattended and you won't have any problems with the birds bothering you. We made reservations in the reservations only resuarant twice and the food was great, and the service was amazing. One night a storm knocked out all of the power, but the staff pulled everything together to make it a memorable evening.

I have read some of the negative reviews and was a bit worried before we got to the resort. If you are planning a trip to El Coz just go and enjoy, you won't regret it!
