My boyfriend and I stayed at The El Cozumeleno from June 1st till June 5th. We were very pleased with the service. We had a hard time deciding where to stay because we didn't want to hear a bunch of loud kids on our vacation so we were hesitant to stay at the Cozumeleno because it wasn't an adult only hotel. However, it was very quiet and peaceful.. The beaches were beautiful and I think other people that have said the beach is rocky are cry babies. The beaches were fine. If your snorkeiling you have the fins on and you don't need water shoes. We bought some and never used them. The hotel was great!! Request an ocean view because the garden view is just looking at the street. Breakfast was great but the other meals and the fact that there was only one kind of beer was disappointing. We ate Lobster at a really quiet and romantic place down the street called Lobster House. This place was worth the money and downtown Senor Frogs was really cool and great drinks. You can get downtown from Cozumeleno in just five minutes by cab and do some shopping, but those people will drive you crazy, trying to sell you something. Speaking of driving you crazy my only complaint about the hotel was the people in the Lobby driving you crazy to buy a tour from them. I just got off a long flight from DFW to Cozumel and I'm just ready to get in my room and relax. Antonio in the dive shop is cool because he does speak English very fluently and can give you the low down on everything, without pressuring you to buy one of his tours. We are from a small town one hour outside of Dallas,TX and it was really neat staying in Cozumel because it seemed like everyone we met was from Texas or surrounding cities. We even discussed making cozumel a every 2 or 3 yr reunion with all the cool couples we met. Overall we had a great relaxing time for an affordable price at the last minute. I want to thank trip advisor for helping us make our decision easier and we will continue to use this site for future trips.

My husband, 2 boys ages 10 and 14, and I stayed at the El Coz from 5/31 to 6/7. It was beautiful, relaxing, and fantastic! The staff work constantly to make sure the resort is beautiful and clean.

Bedrooms: Beds are hard, but if you play hard enough during the day, you won't even notice. Tile in the room was beautiful. We always had at least one bottle of water every day. They did a great job of cleaning up all the sand we dragged in every day.

Food: Breakfast was the best (be sure to get the french toast!), but lunch and dinner were fine too. We have two picky eaters (me and my son) and we always found plenty to eat. If you don't like what is on the buffet, order the beef tenderloin from room service. The beef tenderloin is actually a delicous, perfectly cooked 6 ounce steak. Also, if you order room service, be sure to get some vanilla ice cream. The room service ice cream is a little different than the ice cream at the beverage area by the pool.

Pool Areas: Always clean and beautiful!

Beach - They cleaned the sand every morning and kept it clean during the day. You will definately need some kind of water shoes or surf booties if you have tender feet. But this isn't a complaint at all because that means there is decent snorkeling right in front of the hotel. We even saw a honeycomb cow fish one day.

Here are some things that I highly recommend you do at least once while at the hotel:
1. Take a nap in one of the hammocks on the beach
2. Ask your waiter at the buffet for some bread to feed the fish, then walk down the big pier and feed the fish (morning is the best time to do this). The fish will follow you like puppies as you toss bread in the water.
3. Snorkel in the morning and in the evening. You will see different ocean life each time.
4. Get up early to see a sun rise
5. See a sunset

We will without a doubt go back to this resort because it was perfect for us. I hope your trip will be as fantastic as ours was!

My family and I just returned from our first Cozumel visit and we're already planning our next. The El Cozumeleno is wonderful for families-our boys were never bored, always found someone to play with. Plenty of included activities like snorkeling, ping pong, putt putt golf, and organized events like water volleyball. We hired a member of the hotel staff for childcare while my husband and I went scuba diving(her name was America.) Air conditioning in our room was nice and cold and we had our best night sleep ever in a hotel on the nice firm mattresses. Service from the hotel staff was excellent. We never passed someone without an "Hola." Hotel was exceptionally clean and the groundskeepers were always cleaning or bringing in more sand for the beach. Only negative comment is the dive shop sometimes a little pushy on selling packages, but would not keep me from staying at this hotel again.

My husband and I just returned home from our honeymoon at El Cozumeleno. We truly had a wonderful time! There are so many things that you can do without ever leaving the resort and the staff where wonderful. Just remember to watch out for the lobby sharks when you first enter the lobby, they are wanting to sell you things such as snorkeling trips and scuba trips when you can go see Antonio in the Dive Shop and get them cheaper.
On our last day we rented a scooter and drove around the whole island and I have to say that El Cozumeleno was the nicest and cleanest place on the island. I would recommend this resort to anyone that I talk to and I have. I will be going back again and again!

My husband and I stayed at the El Coz May 15-19th. It was absolutley wonderful!!! I am going to write a little bit about everything...

The Room was very spacious. It had an extra couch and a king size bed. The bathroom was very convient as well. We had a room on the 7th floor, and oceanview room which was incredible!! The bed was actually a little softer than what I would have expected, which was a good thing. We had pretty good water pressure and never ran out of hot water. There was also a saftey box to put $$ and our camera in. The maids do a wonderful job also.

The food.....was okay. Breakfast is definently the best meal!! You have remember that you are in Mexico and the food will not be what you are use to. Lunch was pretty good, but the chips and guacamole are to die for!! Personally I really liked the refried beans and warm flour tortillas. The nice resturant was fairly good also. The butter is really different.

The beach.....BRING WATER SHOES!! We went and bought some shoes before we left and this was a very good idea. I was very surprised of how rocky it was. Last year we went to Playa del Carmen and we love the beaches there. But you always need to try something different!! Just be prepared that it will be rocky. It was really cool that you could see all the fish swimming around you though.

Activities.......GO AND SEE ANTONIO AT THE DIVE SHOP!!!!!! He is really awesome!! When we first got there we were bombarded with people trying to sell something!!! Do not go to the people across from the front office. They are very high priced. We went through Funjet (Lomas Travel) for our snorkeling tour. Personally I think that the dive shop one would have been better. I do regret that mistake. The reefs that we went to were too deep and we couldn't see very much. We rented a scooter from the hotel and that was worth the $40.00. Getting to see the whole island is amazing---and eat at Coconuts!! We also went on the Sunset Cruise through the dive shop.....it was SO MUCH FUN!! The sunset was beautiful. They also had an awesome fire show. We also went diving through the dive shop. This was our first time, and I was so nervous about the whole thing. My husband loved it!! Sara was our instructor. If this is your first time diving, ask for Mani and Sara-- THEY ARE WONDERFUL!!!! Sara stayed with me the whole time and was very thouorgh (?). I would definently go again!! Overall, I would suggest going through Antonio for all of your activities.

I think that's about it. My husband and I loved the hotel, the people, and everything about the island. I would suggest this hotel to anyone!! If you have any questions, please feel free to e-mail me at clyde3437@hotmail.com. We can't wait to go back!!!!!!
