Just returned from a five night six day trip to the El Cozumeleno from April 8-13th, 2006. We traveled with our 3 children aged 7, 5, and 2. THis was our first big international trip with our children, and I have to say I am glad we chose this hotel and the island of Cozumel. Everything was great from the moment we arrived in the hotel. They gave us a choice of rooms when we checked in b/c I wasn't sure what would be better for the kids. I chose the older tower because it had a fabulous view and it was a good choice with kids--it seemed to be a lot quieter at night and the room was huge. More than enough room for our big family. The room was clean and seemed very safe. Everyone at the hotel made us feel right at home--they always knew our name and were tripping over themselves to help out whenever they could. We brought $100 in one dollar bills for tipping and used them all. While we did the all-inclusive, we felt everyone went above and beyond, and we wanted them to make extra. I was really worried about the water and food situation since all the bad reviews online. Water is all bottled everywhere you go. You can drink water on any part of the resort because they use big bottles of water for ice and for drinking. In our rooms we chose to brush our teeth with the bottled water too, even though we were told you can use the tap and spit it out. All of their cooking is from bottled water too, so don't even worry about it. The food is buffet style, and we found it to be quite good. Now let's get one thing straight--I don't care where I go on vacation, if I'm eating buffet food from the same place every day, I'm gonna get a little tired of it. I will agree with everyone else in that breakfast if fabulous. Lunch is either the snack bar by the pool which is just quick easy stuff that is okay, but if you go into the restraunt part , it is really good. Dinner is fine as well, all my kids always found something that they really liked, or if they didn't the chef could usually make something for them. Everything was always very fresh and lots of variety. I've had food that wasn't even half this good on plenty of other vacations. We never got sick from any of the food, and are still missing that awesome guacomole and made to order omelettes and fajitas. The theme nights are a lot of fun and the kids really enjoyed them. The grounds are immaculate--these people are constantly cleaning!! If I had one complaint about anything, I would have to say it is the beach. While there is new sand that was brought in, a good percentage of the beach is rock. With little kids, this is a tough beach because it is hard to get into the water with all the rocks. I also saw some glass and lots of sharp rocks and shells, so bring beach shoes. That is another reason we really enjoyed exploring other beaches down the coast of Cozumel, because they were more of the white sand beaches which were better for the kids as far as swimming and snorkeling. All of the pools are spotless and the temperature is perfect. The drinks are endless--I got creative as the week wore on and started trying new things from the bar. The Banana Mama was one of my favorites. My kids enjoyed the virgin drinks the bartenders made for them. One of the funnest things we did was renting a jeep and driving around the island. Go see Manuel at the Fiesta car rental booth in the hotel lobby. His prices are good and he is trustworthy. We had a great time exploring the island and seeing the local beaches and sights. I always felt so safe in Cozumel, everyone is so nice... Also do the Manta snorkeling trip. Antonio at the dive shop does a great job and really knows his stuff. My son couldn't wait to tell his friends he had snorkeled 80 feet over a real ship wreck. Bring an extra couple of bottles of sun screen. I went through a ton--the sun is so hot down there! Overall, I can't say enough great things about this hotel. This was by far the best family vacation we have ever taken. Everything about the hotel is top notch, but what makes it stand out is the people who work there. They really take care of you. We came home feeling relaxed and refreshed, which is exactly what I look for in a great family vacation!!!!

We stayed at the El Coz from April 8th-15th. We arrived at the hotel at 1:30 in the afternoon And our rooms were ready. My husband and I traveled with his 68 year old mother and our two kids ages 8 and 10. The rooms were very nice and clean and had a wonderful ocean view room. The kids really enjoyed the pool. After checking into several hotels on Cozumel this one does have the best pool. We also had excellent service from all the bartenders and waiters. People are right the front desk staff doesn't seem too pleasant. Martha at the front desk is crabby. See America (yes, that's her name) she is very nice. The only real complaint I have is I didn't like the chafing dishes the food at the buffet was presented in. They tops were hard to deal with. And the birds were a bit to deal with too. The food it self was really pretty good. Always something to eat, but it does get old by the end of the week. But I think you get that with most all-inclusives. This is a smaller resort so It was good for young children, teens may get bored...On Friday quite a large crowd of locals came to stay at the hotel and did get rather crowded and staff was a bit crazed. The food in the eat in resturant was probably the best. All in all I would definitely stay here again.

This was the best vacation I have been on in years. We just came back last night from Cozumel and stayed at the El Cozumeleno Resort for 3 days. What a great place to get away for the weekend. I took my parents and girlfriend for a quick easter trip and found all of us not wanting to go home.
The food was very good, but the service was second to none. After 2 hours of being there, our waiter new our names and what we liked to drink. I never had to ask for a refill. It just appeared. The rooms and view from our balcony were amazing. The resort was in great shape and the outdoor area was very big. If you didn't like noise or loud music, go to the other side and get in a different pool.
The snorkeling right off the beach was great and very clear waters. Make sure to wear water shoes. Very rocky after the hurricane!
OCEAN TOURS was amazing! Antonio treated us right and never hasseled or bothered us. I even emailed him in advance and he helped me out with whatever I needed. He is the manager at the on site dive shop. He arranged our trip, helped us get settled, and made us feel at home from the beginning. Great service all the way around.
Be careful with the Lomas/Funjet travel folks. They love to sell you stuff and convince you how there trip is much better than Ocean Tours. Ocean Tours is the one shop that is onsite at the resort and they never bother you. In fact, when you arrive, you are given a brochure of excurisons from Ocean Tours, but Lomas/Funjet makes you go to this stupid meeting and trys to sell you tours and stuff. I'm on vacation, leave me alone. Ocean Tours is endorssed by the hotel and has been the preferred dive shop for years. I felt very safe on their snorkel trip and the crew was great. We saw more fish here than anywhere else. My dad had never been snorkeling and he had a blast. What an awesome time we will never forget. The snorkel trip was $45 and that is almost nothing. You are gone 4 hours and have so much fun. 3 stops and great underwater life. I highly recommend the tour for all ages. The Manta Crew, Ocean Tours, and Antonio are a class act and I will continue to use them on my future visits to Cozumel.
As for the El Cozumeleno, thank you so much for helping make great memories for a much needed family. Your resort ranks at the top of all places I've been. As soon as I got home last night, I was looking at dates to come back and visit. This summer will be great. El Coz is the place to stay if you are in Cozumel!

My girlfriend and I (24 year old teachers) just returned from a 6 day stay at El Cozumeleno (April 8th - 14th). Be ready to read a lot because I am going to go into as much detail as possible regarding this hotel.

The first thing to talk about is the staff. I have never encountered a staff more curtious, friendly, and willing to help then at El Cozumeleno. From the moment we walked in to the moment we left everyone exceeded our expectations. The bartenders were friendly and made great drinks. I reccomend the miami vice! The house keeping was unbelieveable. Your room was mopped, swept, and wiped down every day. I reccomend that on your first day you put your used towels in a pile with a 5 dollar bill on it. You will get a very clean room. We got 2 bottles of bottled water every day. The front desk staff was very helpful. I misplaced my digital camera and they had people looking for it in no time. (We ended up finding it in a pile of dirt clothes in the room!) Even though an all inclusive is supposed to include tips, please tip anyone that deserves it. Waiters, bartenders, house keeping... they all work really hard and you know they are making next to nothing. A tip really takes you far, they remember you and treat you even better!

The next thing to talk about is the property itself. The rooms are gorgeous. We were on the 5th floor of the new tower. The view was spectacular to say the least. There are 2 pools. The quiet pool and I guess the "loud" pool. The quiet pool is away from all the music and games so its nice if you just want to read a book. The other pool has the swim up bar, water volleyball, and basket ball. There are hundreds of lounge chairs for you to relax on. Right on the beach there are hammocks that are great for resting. There is an 18 hole mini-golf course on the property, a game room with foozeball, pool, and ping pong, there is a enormous chess board, cabanas covered with straw thatch roofs, and even a disco club for night. All of this is free! Also you can rent snorkling gear, sea kayaks, and windsurfing for free also at the dive shop... speaking of which...

The in house dive shop gets a section on its own. I strongly reccomend that this is the first place you stop after you have your first drink. Find Antonio. Antonio is by far your best resource at El Cozumeleno. Book everything through him! We went on the sunset cruise which was amazing with the Manta Boys and Antonio (even though he wasn't working he came anyways). We also did a snorkling trip to 3 reefs including a sunken world war II boat. Out of all he offers I really reccomend the sunset cruise. All you can drink, great company, its a guaranteed good time, plus they will drop you off in town afterwards for night time fun. I can't stress enough how much you need to go see antonio... he is great. Even reccomended great beaches to go check out on the Southern Side of the island. (Playa Palencar is a GREAT beach).

The food... I read many reviews on here complaining about the food and I was shocked to find out how wrong they were. Breakfast was great... made to order omelettes... pancakes, waffles, french toast, bacon, eggs, sausage, fruit, yogurt, cereal, potatos... I mean the possibilites were endless. For lunch things were changed a bit every day. You can find sandwhiches, made to order fajitas made of chicken, beef, or fresh mahi mahi. In the buffet there were plenty of items to eat, all were good. Dinner was the same, great food, something different every time. The snack bar is great too. Open from about 10-6 each day you can get your fix of chips and guacomole (my favorite), hamburgers, hot dogs, jalepeno poppers, and other tasty treats.

The reservation resturant is a must. We went 2 times during our 6 day stay. If you go for the late reservation (9:30) there is no dress code, but there is one for the 7 and 8 oclock sittings. The food was outstanding. Try the tomato soup, the spinach salad, the surf and turf, the salmon, or the mahi mahi... there were incredible. The wait staff in the resturant were incredible as well. They treat you like you are at a 5 star resturant. Please tip them!

Every monday, wednesday, and friday I believe they have a show. We were there for the Mexican show on Wednesday night. It was a wonderful show! Mexican dancers from Mexico City, a Mariachi Band, and so much more. Before the show they were playing musical chairs with the kids which was fun to watch.

I am sure I can sit and write for house, but let me just sum everything up. El Cozumeleno is a fantastic resort. I would reccomend it for young couples (like us), families, seniors.... basically for everyone. If you have any questions about the hotel, or if you have any questions about things to do in Cozumel I would be happy to help. E-mail me at todd.rubinstein@gmail.com

My husband and I just returned from a 4 day stay at El Cozumeleno Resort in Cozumel. It was a very very nice place. We would definately stay there again. As soon as we got to the hotel, the Bell boy held our luggage while we checked in and a waiter brought us a fresh cool drink. Nice touch. We got the all inclusive plan so we were able to get drinks and food-as much as we wanted and whenever we wanted. This even included room service! Awesome! Food was pretty good. Staff was friendly as well. The hotel even has a Carribean fiesta on Friday nights. That was fun. The beach off of the hotel is OK. It does have alot of shells/rocks but not a big deal really. They have plenty of leisure chairs to lay in. We booked through "Funjet Vacations" and they had their staff there at the hotel--their shirts say "Lomas travel" I believe. They had a list of excursions they recommended for us that we could book through them. We've used them before so we knew they were good people. They will give you all the info you need about the excurions and they are not pushy. We just chose which excursions we wanted and we were all set. There are also people working there with yellow shirts. Be careful with them, they will offer you excurions as well but it is all in the name of "TIMESHARES". So be careful. But if you are interested in timeshares then go for it. Anyway, the Cozumeleno is a very nice hotel. Ocean view is a must it's so beautiful!!! In order to get to the downtown area, you can take a cab which costs $5 one way. Not bad. Overall, Highly recommend El Cozumeleno.
