This was our families second time to El Coz. Last year was the the best trip we had ever had. Everything about the hotel and Cozumel was great.
This year was not as good. We found that even tipping the waiters did not guarantee service. They came to expect it with or without giving service. Unfortunately my daughter had $90 stolen from her room. She had not connected up with her sisters to put her things in the safety deposit box and when she returned her wallet was on top of her clothes with half of the money missing. Of course reporting it to the staff was merely a technicality and they really could not have cared. Oh well that was a live and learn experience for all of us. The housekeepers-we had to take toilet paper from their carts. They would not leave a roll even if there was barely any on the last roll. Someone even TP'd a balcony and we joked that they would be sorry when they didn't have any toilet paper left in their room. The food was exactly the same as last year-enough to stay nourished but not something you would say "Wow that was great!" We did find the angle to having real tequila in our margaritas-that was a fun day!! We probably would not be back to the El Coz. Between the service and the constant battle for chairs was too frustrating for what was supposed to be our vacation. The resort was busier than last year-good for the resort not so good for the customers. Our friends had to wait three days for a rollaway. The ocean and snorkeling are beautiful and the young male staff were more than attentive to our teenage daughters. Go to this resort with low to mid expectations and you probably won't be disappointed

My husband, aunt and uncle just booked our 4th year in a row. We love this resort. Each year, our experience has been wonderful- we usually travel in the summer months, and the resort is not crowded. We had a problem with our room - 1 time, and it was resolved very quickly. The waiters are charming, and the staff is helpful.

Last year, we took my parents- and they are still talking about what a great time they had. I'd recommend it to everyone- and do...

My husband and I just returned for Cozumel 4/5 to 4/12/04 and stayed at the El Cozumeleno Hotel. We had a wonderful time, We were amazed when we got to our room, it was the size of a suite, so very very large and beautiful and all tile and very clean. We had super large terrace over looking the ocean. Theirs two very large pools, 2 kiddy pools, and 2 hot tubs. Plenty of activities for childern. and a kids klub. the dinks were plentyfull. Breakfast was all anyone can want and so was lunch.
And they alway had hamburgers and hot dogs and fries out side all day for kids. Their was only one resterant but 3 seating, 6,8,9:30. but the food was good. If anyone couldn 't find somthing you liked to eat at this hotel that was good , i feel sorry for you. there was something for everyone. the staff was wonderful. They like their tips but that was fine we us , as the all work very hard and alway have a big smile on their face. We just loved the ocean , the water was aqua and clear like dinking water. All the snolkng you can do right off the beach, which was full of reefs. We went into town and love it. I felt very comfortable walking around. cab fare to town $5. Shopping was fun. we swam with the dolphins and snokled lots. I never saw so many fish and all differant species. The people we ment were so nice and freindly.I only see one improvement i like to see it was the longes. We got up a 7am to get one. and the last night their after a large new registestion come into the hotel , i got up a 7 am and they were all gone. They need more longes and little more shade. all and all we loved our stay and would highly recemend this hotel to anyone.Especicaly families.
Although we didn't go with childern all the chilern had a ball. And teens also therir was alway something going on in the daytime. We will be back toCozumel and to El Cozemeleno .

I read all the reviews, heard the good, heard the bad, and heres the skinny. It's as good as it gets in mexico. Been going there since before the kids and the kids are in college now. Pretty darn good food, large drinks and plenty of um. Really nice, clean, big rooms. NO rude help that I saw and I speak their language. Ovcourse the begs are hard your're in latin america. Nothing but smiles from the bar keeps and they were way swamped during spring break. Those gringo folks who fuss about this resort need to stay home cause they don't understand mexico.
If you expect perfection stay in tha states, and go to disneyland. We are returning for Thanksgivin and staying again at the Coz. Rent a little VW and see the island, check out Paradise Beach, American owned and lots of fun. The whole family did the disco thing at Senior frogs, mucho fun. For the price it doesn't get better....

We stayed at the El Cozumeleno 3\19 - 3\26. All in all we had a great time. We stayed on the 3rd floor ocean view in the new part. We arrived at 10 am and our room wasn't ready till 3pm but that was fine. My husband, son and I went and changed in to our swim suits and enjoyed the ocean. They took great care of our suit cases while we started our vacation. I do recomend bringing your own towels. They give you cards to check out towels but if you lose one they charge $50.00 . When we went swimming in the ocean someone took one of our towels. I talked to the front desk about it and they said when we check out we need to have the same amount of cards as they gave us. What she was really saying is that we needed to steal one back or pay $50.00. I didn't have it in me to steal one back although it could have been pretty easy due to all the towels people put out early in the morning on the chairs and then don't use them till later in the afternoon. That bothered me. The rooms were clean and we did have to ask for towels because the maid never put any in our room. But that happens. I thought the food was good, the best is their breakfast. My son didn't eat much while we were there but thats a whole other story. I thought the drinks and beer were good and I am a beer drinker! After a couple drinks I did feel it so they are not made weak. They do sneak up on you. I wasn't very pleased in the morning around 5:30-6:30. I am a early morning person and there wasn't any coffee available till 6:30am. And there is nothing for non coffee drinkers till 7:00am. One morning I went down to get coffee and they had juice out so I went to get some for my son and husband. As I was filling the cups I got yelled at by 2 of the staff. And they were not quiet about it. They Yelled! I was very shocked and embarassed. However as the week went on I heard and saw others get yelled at for taking juice early too. The resort itself is very nice and we did snorkel right out in front. I had never snorkeled before so I have nothing to compare it to. But I enjoyed it. My husband and son took the free scuba lessons and the instructors are GREAT! My son was very nervous and they stayed right with him till he could do it on his own. We did tip the staff but I don't feel that it helped us get better service than anyone else that was not tipping. I didn't feel that the music they played was overly loud and the Theme nights were ok. We watched most of the theme nights from our balcony off our room. We had a great view. We took the ATV Jungle tour one day and had a great time. I really enjoyed it. Its not for people who don't like to get dirty or bounced around. (So LADIES take note! )Dont do it if your going to whine and complain the whole tour. There are pros and cons to the El Cozumeleno just like anywhere else. Its all in what you make of it. We had a good time. I don't know if we would stay there again just because we like to try different places when we vacation. We have been to Mexico several times, Ixtpapa, Mazatlan and Cozumel. And they were all great vacations.
