“A very good week”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 26, 2013

We had a very good stay. The staff was very friendly and service very very good. The food while not gourmet, was reasonably good with plenty of choices. The room a good size with some what dated furnishings, but kept very clean and well maintained. The view and balcony on our 6th floor room was spectacular. The grounds were well maintained. Overall well worth the money.

This was our second stay at the El Cozumeleno. Each visit we have had a rental car so taxi costs were not a factor for us. The first visit we used the hotel mostly as a safe, quiet place to eat and sleep because we were SCUBA diving so much. This time around, we took advantage of more of the hotel's facilities and activities. The hotel is very clean, the front desk staff is amazing, the food service in the hotel dining room and in the outdoor dining room is superb, the food is delicious (well, except for the margarine....leaves something to be desired!, BUT real butter is available and just fine), and the activities staff is full of energetic, friendly, fun men and women. We snorkeled the very first day and saw the most amazing fish we've ever seen as well as a very large Barracuda. It was the perfect introduction to our vacation. We watched two weddings from our balcony. They were very well done complete with recorded church bells announcing the presence of the bride when she began her walk to the beach. Very romantic! There is a dress code for evening dining in the Veranda, the inside-the-building restaurant, but it is simple, long pants for the gentlemen and no shorts or bathing suits for anyone. If the man doesn't have long pants, the hotel has pants available in many sizes to accomodate. There are a couple of hot tubs which are really warm water! Many resorts in the Caribbean have swirling water tubs that they say are hot tubs, but the water is cold. Not so at the El Coz!! Warm water, jets, etc. equals a REAL hot tub experience!! There's even a children's center and playground with careful supervision for little ones, plus a large room for pool, fooseball, ping-pong and so on, so the teens can be happy too! Oh, did I mention the miniature golf course? Yup! Plus a dive shop on premises. This is just a GREAT place to stay! If you want to go into downtown, it'll run about $7.50 to $8.00 US. We have recommended this resort to many folks and will continue to do so. We plan to return without question. We love it there!!

We have been to this resort 4 times and will continue to make it our Vacation Destination. The staff are very friendly and strive to keep us happy. We spend a lot of time on the beach and at the pool. The pool water was cold and it took a while each time to feel comfortable in the water. We have said this every year but nothing has been done to make it a little more bearable to stay in the pool. Also there is an issue with not enough lawn chairs. We were well taken care of by the staff. Especially Marisol, Sylvia, Wendy and Jose among all the other great staff members and Managers. Great people to be around! The first couple of trips their beds were too hard. We let them know and this time they had made the beds softer and was very comfortable. The pillows were a little small and hard. The resort was kept clean and the food was good. The bar tenders were great and mixed our drinks the way we like them. Mine less alcohol and my husband likes them strong. The water was always full of fish to look at and the snorkeling was good. The best time to go is Mid April. It is our favorite of all the resorts we have been.

We really enjoyed our stay at the hotel beach resort. The rooms were comfortable and well kept, the activities were very good and the staff, especially that provided by angel, fernando, marco and erik was exceptional and they made us feel like honored quests.

Excellent service, staff is awesome super helpful. The facilities are kept up very clean the rooms are large with great views. Great snorkeling just outside of the hotel with free snorkeling equipment available for you. Food is just ok. The fine dinning restaurant isn't any better than the buffets that are setup outside. No spa but services are provided got a massage on the beach and it was awesome. Make sure to pack a thermal mug such as a bubba keg to keep beverages cold or hot. If you like a hard bed you will sleep really good. Overall the resort is very good.

Room Tip: Rooms away from the main pool much more quieter.

Good resort, but 2nd day diesel fumes around the one pool area. I am not a picky traveller, but food could be better and warmer. Towels are grey could use some bleach. No fridge in rooms and bottled water is handed out sparingly. Service is excellent!

It felt like being on a cruise. Too many people and too small of a resort. Could not get a chair or lounger at pool or beach the first 2 days and then had to start getting up at 5am to search for chairs or loungers in the dark and there was still a shortage. Management knows there is a problem and do they nothing to correct it. If you have 2000 people at a BEACH RESORT, you need to have 2000 places for them at the beach and pool.
The food was very good for an all-inclusive and the ale carte restaurant was very good but drinks were a little weak but all servers and staff were great. Anything they could do for you they would try. Also, if you want to have dinner at the ale carte restaurant you have to get to the front desk between 8-8:15am to make your reservation. Another inconvenience. This vacation was so tiring having to get up early so you could get a lounger at the beach and to reserve dinner that we went home tired.
Rooms were very nice and all had great views.
We are beach people and the lack of chairs to relax at is the reason our group of 6 (3 couples) will not be going back. We have stayed at all-inclusive from budget to 5 star like Sandals, Beaches, Palace Resorts, Oasis Resorts, Blue Bay Resorts, etc. and from Costa Rica to Dominican Republic and all over Mexico and I have never felt as cramped, hurried and inconvenienced as I did here. One member of our group asked, "why this vacation felt different from all of our other vacations and why we were going home not as relaxed as usual" and after a discussion between the 6 of us we are in agreement that getting up at 5am to stumble around for a chair and having to wait in the lobby in line at 8am to get dinner reservations was not our idea of a relaxing vacation.
Do rent a car or jeep and take a drive around the island. It is truly beautiful.
We will be back to Cozumel but not to El Cozumeleno.

Room Tip: Get up early to get a lounger at beach and pool and make dinner reservations.
