We arrived at the FA on July 23, 2004 for a seven night all-inclusive vacation. We paid extra for the Tropical Casita which was represented as beach access and a "Exclusive" area of the hotel. Upon arrival we waited in line for nearly an hour with only one hotel reception person working the front desk. She went on break and was replaced with another lone worker, despite a line that was getting longer. I travel a great deal on business and I have never seen such a disrespect for customers - - I didn't realize just how bad the service would get. So, we were provided our "Tropical Casita" room and then took a 400+ yard walk behind the hotel to the "Exclusive" area. The stench of raw sewge was overwhelming as we took the long stroll to our room. There was a ramshackle building on the outer boundry of the complex where trash and debris were scattered around the jungle. Clouds of hungry mosquitos attacked us as we made our migration to the room that turned out to be in the jungle behind the main hotel. I paid nearly $ 400 more for this? The room was large but a huge concrete cabinet occupied the majority of the space and we ended up with actually less space than the rooms in the main hotel for our 2 kids (7 and 9) that accompanied us. We discovered at the room that nothing in the refrigerator or none of the snacks were included in our "All-Inclusive" trip - - even the mosquito repellent (which was absolutely mandatory for a trip outside the room into the "Jungle") was a chargable item

We went to the lunch restaurant and reviewed the buffet that was literally covered and crawling with flies. The selections were worse than the slop I made myself in college and I wondered if the hotel had subcontraced with some of the local peasants to bring in the food!! It was really that bad! My kids refused to eat the food and I decided to try to get something that was sealed in a containter. The yogurt was all of of date and we decided to wait until dinner. Many of the same dried out and "walked-on" items from lunch reappeared on the dinner buffet - - re-treading at its finest!

Dinner wasn't much better and the dessert trays were literally covered with flying ants that had gotten "Stuck" in the dessert sauces. It was quite amusing to watch the lizards at night around the lights of the dining hall. They would eat the insects and the discarded insect parts (wings, legs, etc) would fall around the bar and dessert area! Nasty, but my kids got a kick watching the National Geographic spectacle.

We made a determination to make the best of it on our first night and keep a glass half-full outlook on our situation. On the second morning my son cut his ankle on the razor sharp tile in the kids pool. The cut was nearly 2 inches long and very deep (could see muscle and tendons) on his ankle. The pool staff arrived, bandanged the ankle and left. I came back from the beach and asked my wife what had happened and she said that the hotel informed us to take a cab to the hospital to get the ankle fixed. I investigated the area in the pool and did discover the razor sharp 3 inch area. Another guest came up to me during that time and stated that my son was the 6th person she had seen get "Cut" in the pool since her arrival that Sunday (4 days prior). I informed the manager at the front desk about the injury and told him that he needed to do more for us. We spent the day at the pre-arranged medical clinic getting the ankle sewn up and then spent the next 3 days rolling our son around in a wheel chair (that the hotel gladly furnished for us). The last 2 days of our vacation my son was able to walk with a great deal of pain (but no wheel-chair) since another guest required it - -hummmmmm?

I found the service most of the times mocking and disrespectful. I've read the other reports on this web site and wonder how anyone can give this hotel more than a 2 rating??

The Fiesta Americana configured the bars and restaurants to penalyze the all-inclusive crowd, the open/close times of restaurants were not followed. As far as the hotel - the air conditioners were of 1970 vintage and were loud and droned on through the night. We moved to the main hotel since the long walk with the wheel-chair became cumbersome. At the main hotel we had an air conditioner that had a large gap in it where you could actually see through to the outside! The next morning we all had about 30 mosquito bites and I'm surprised that we don't have malaria. The stench of raw sewage permeated the Tropical Casita complex and also came into the room in the main hotel through an open drain on the bathroom floor. I am a diver and usually left at 7:00 am and returned at 11:30 so I was able to enjoy at least a portion of my vacation. My wife and kids had to suffer through the whole misery of it all at the Fiesta Americana.

The kids enjoyed playing pool at night in the hotel lobby which was really the only activity available besides a pint-sized ping pong table played on slick tile. Live flying bats would cruise through the lobby area in the evening. Also, floors in the lobby would become greased lightning slick when wet and I saw one boy get severely injured when he did a full-on head plant that you could actually feel in your feet from across the room. Wet bathers had to traverse through the main lobby to get to their rooms (and the Tropical Casita) and no matter how hard they tried, the hotel staff could not keep the floors dry and I wondered why they would not use some type of non-slip tile in an area like that?

Be prepared to sign for everything you get and the big print giveth and the fine print taketh away on the list of "Not-Included" items. After the 3rd day of eating the "Slop" we all got stomach bugs. They would only give us one roll of toilet paper and we requested numerous times that it be replentished to no avail. I found myself sneaking into the supply room downstairs to get the items like soap, shampoo, and toilet paper since they left only one each for four people staying in the room.

Top this all off with the worst hotel service that I've ever experienced in my 17 years of traveling and you pretty much have your worst vacation nightmare situation that you can ever imagine. The only staff member worth a tip was a nice older gentlemen who worked the beach near the rental shack - - the only one!

I wish I would have know about this review web-site before booking my trip. If you are going to Cozumel - - don't waste your dollars, vacation time, or minutes staying at the Fiesta Americana!!!!

We were at the Fiesta American from 12-25-04 to 01-01-05. We had a good time. First of the hotel does cater to divers.... We knew that going- we did not dive but we were looking for R & R (got it).

We paid the extra money ($100) up front for a ocean view room. (Do It !) We had a nice ocean view with Balcony with sling chairs. This was great since our first day it rained all day. Lots of comfortable reading time on the Balcony with a Beautiful vie wof the ocean, cruise ships coming and going, boats with divers coming and going, and best of all Great sunsets.

Food: The Buffets were good - when I got bored with the food in the buffet I ordered only once or twice from the menu - we were all inclusive (only way to go). We had 2 meals at Miramar - if you have a chance to eat there Do It ! food was great.

DRINKS: we great. Not weak.

Service good

Housekeeping Excellent - room always cleaned twice a day, clean towels and sheet everyday never had to wait.

Okay I have to agree - the toilet space is verrry limited. I am not tall and had a problem. Guys be glad you stand up (and that still could be difficult).

Pools: Cold but very clean -

Beach/Ocean : beach - none Ocean entrance was rocky but once you got past the rocks the water was great lots of fish - We took corn flakes from the buffet and feed the fish for great under water pictures.

OTHER Activites in the area: We recommend the Lobster pirate cruise. About $70.00 purchased through our Aple Rep and had a great time. Lobsters we excellent entertainment was very good as well as scenery evening also the coast line of cozumel.

Overall had a great time met a lot of people from our area enjoyed their company.

This was our second visit to a Fiesta American Resort in Mexico--the first being in Cabo San Lucas. The impressive facility and amenities in Cabo were considered in determining where to stay in Cozumel. We found that not all Fiesta Americana facilities are equal! Cabo was fabulous--I'd recommend it to any and everyone for a fabulous experience. The Cozumel resort was nice, but not up to the level of the Cabo resort. The staff that we dealt with were all very hospitable and friendly--always willing to assist whenever needed. The rooms were large and clean for the most part--linens and towels were changed daily and there were no problems worth mentioning. (Unlike one of the previous reviews, we had no problem with hot water or any weird smells in our rooms.) The pool and beach were busy, but we were able to find places to park ourselves each day. The waitstaff by the pool and beach bars were great--very attentive. We did not partake of the all-inclusive experience. We did eat breakfast daily at the Reef restaurant and found it to be average to above average (off the menu, not the buffet) All of our dinners were in town--nightly! We did not run into any problems getting into the restaurants downtown--despite the number of cruise ships docked nearby--up to seven (7) on Wednesdays! We enjoyed the variety of restaurants downtown and enjoyed getting away from the hotel for awhile as well. (It was an $8.00 cab ride--one way--from the hotel to town--so figure an extra $18.00 with tip for you dinner cost if you choose to follow this route.) The Fiesta Americana Dive Resort is just that--a resort that caters to SCUBA divers--serious SCUBA divers. It felt like the vast majority of people there were into diving and this hotel fit there needs perfectly. For those of us who were not into diving, there was not much more to do. We did do some snorkeling and that was fun and easy--right off the beach in front of the hotel. I agree that the music around the pool was loud and mostly oldies, but it wasn't that offensive! Overall, I enjoyed the time in Cozumel and at the Fiesta Americana, but I think if I were to return, I would look at the Presidente just up the beach!

I was very disgusted with my three day stay 12/28/04 - 12/31/04 in Casita #904.
The nightmare began at check in and the rudest front desk person that I have ever met in my years of travel, Erika. She said that my pre-paid room was not ready and that my credit card ( for incidental charges) had insufficcient funds. She said to come back at 4pm, and check in is at 3pm. I went into town and low and behold there was NO PROBLEM with my credit card. When I came back I was told by another person at the front desk that my room had been ready at the time of check in!! AARRRGGG! The armoir smelled like cat urine and the pillows smelled like the entire NFL slept on them. THERE IS NO HOT WATER!!! I tried at 5:30 am and numerous times during the day to take a hot shower. No such luck. The sheets were NEVER changed.
The food at the water front restaurant was so-so. The best item being the club sandwich and beware of the weak $6.30 margaritas. I am on my second passport and have traveled the world extensively. This place is the WORST!!! DO NOT DEAL with the very rude Avis attendee.
This is a very bad place!!! Go somewhere else!!!

My girlfriend and I stayed at the FA 12/25-1/1. Our room was quite comfortable. Spacious and clean, though the beds we're a little hard. Yeah, the bathroom is small, but it's not like you are spending your entire vacation in there.

The hotel itself unfortunately had the "Spring Break 1999" vibe. Each day, by the pool, they were playing lousy top 40/r&b hits pretty loud, loud enough to disturb you if you are quietly trying to read a book and relax anywhere near the pool area. Also, they have strange makeshift games that are played each day, including bingo and some other weird thing with a stone toss. I guess this is a good place for a family with little kids. The kids will like the pool and the volleyball court. The parents might endure to see their children happy. I was travelling with my girlfriend and we just wanted peace and quiet on the beach.

Speaking of the beach, unless you lay your towel out on a chair by 10AM, you haven't a prayer of sitting on the beach on a nice day. Snorkeling was nice, if you are into that. There isn't much to do on the island other than explore other beaches, snorkel, or dive (need certification). Check out the main town once, but good luck avoiding the boatfuls of tourists getting off of the cruise ships.

Now, one important thing: Avoid the food at the hotel at all costs. The buffet dinner was a disaster (hopsital/airplane food is better), and the Reef Club restaurant and Miramar restaurant are only marginally better. What ----- the most is that there are no other options for eating unless you take a $6 cab to town, so they stick it to you on the price of food and drinks. Suggestion: walk down the rocky beack about a half a mile to the Presidente Intercontinental. The food there is way better, and same price (maybe even a tad cheaper, amazingly).

I don't mean to give this place an awful rating. I just think my girlfriend and I were looking for a bit quieter atmosphere with better food. The lack of exciting activities on the island and the flocks of tourists perhaps lead the the slightly sour taste in my mouth.

Overall assessment: if you love diving and snorkeling and can do that all the time, this is good for you, and even the hotel is fine if you avoid the food and don't mind the spring break atmosphere. If you are looking for a relaxing, peace and quiet carribean vacation, try elsewhere.
