Let me start by saying I normally stay at a friends villa. However short notice trip put us in fiesta Americana. I'm not a serious diver but have been to Cozumel many times. Some of the reviews area little harsh and I wanted to bring you all some info that is current. Unlike a villa you see many other guests and privacy is non-existant outside your room or casita. I automaticly upgraded at no additional charge to a casita. More privacy, but no ocean view. If you want ocean view go to the beach!:) The rooms are large and very clean. My A/C was so cold I had to turn it off in the middle of the night. Yes, the thing about the bed is true! Very HARD. My lower back loved it but my wife did not care for it but she was able to sleep good. The food was not bad at all. Be sure to do the AI for for booz alone. Some reviews did not care for the food. I'm from Texas so I like Mexican food. Don't expect to get Chinese food or anything. Your in Mexico so this means "Mexican Food" is the best thing to eat breakfst, lunch and dinner. The hotel did have a small sand beach and a stairway down to the water. I love to snorkle. They have a rock ledge to look at with nice floral's and some good fish but nothing like other spots. I recomend only eating and sleeping and waiting at the hotel in between activities. The service was good and all spoke some english. They only asked for room number at the begining of each meal and to get towels. So getting drinks is no problem and very quick. I will stay there again.

Here is something for the people who have never been to Cozumel and not hard core divers.

Many things have changed since I've been back in 2000. More Americanized! More shopping and places to eat and drink. Not my bag but was ok.

The best place to snorkle by far: Playa Corona
You will see many snorkle guides hanging around by there. Good food, drinks serivice and no entrance fee. Take your spouse to go have a couple beers and watch the sunset when they close. All the guys are cool. (Go buy a cheap set of snorkel gear and take with you) Academy $24.99 adult size)

Best non-entrace fee beach: Mr. Sanchos
a little pricy but everyone in the group will have fun and you don't have to pay (10-50) to get in

Take taxi's everywhere. rentals cars are expensive and you always need to keep your cool, get gas, stuff breaks, pain in the butt. But if you do don't drive drunk. Gringo drunk checks are plentifull.

Parasail from anywhere with a bar on the water. They just radio out to a boat and you pay them direct. $50.00 to fly and if you have camera riders that don't fly they pay $10.00

Also if you have women in the group they will love to swim with the dolfin's. It's expensive but very cool. (I think it was about $125.00 from hotel_ They can book it for you.

I hope this helps...... God I love that place!

PS) You still burn under clouds so be careful... And have a wonderful trip!

Vacationed 7/17-7/24 @ Feista Americana. Great time had by all. Thank you to all the contributors for Trip Advisor over the last 6 months. The people of Cozumet were very nice. Respect and enjoy the people and they will reciprocate. If you are an "Ugly American" guess what? HOTEL: Upon arriving we were to have "Connecting Rooms" if available. They do not have connecting rooms. They put us on 2 different floors. The next day Maurice at the front desk got us on the same floor a few doors apart. We had to stand firm but with respect (it worked well) to get what we wanted. We were on the 6th Floor. Our rooms were clean, big, great view, cold AC (100 degree temps every day) and friendly helpful staff. We took a cooler on wheel for provisions since we did not do the all inclusive route. The ice machine worked well. We went to the grocery store Chedrau and bought breakfast stuff for mornings we went diving, beverages, snacks, little styrofoam coolers for the rental Jeep etc. We rented a Jeep for the whole week, a couple of months before we went on holiday via Avis because they are in F.A. Wilbur and his staff of Avis people were always helpful and friendly. DIVING: My wife and I have been diving for over 27 years but only occasionally. We are always a litttle nervous at first. We had never been diving in Cozumel and were hesitant about drift diving. Also our 2 sons of 13 and 18 just finished a dive program here and only needed the open water checkout. After monitoring Trip Advisor the name Betsy White came highly recommended. To make a long story short we booked up with Betsy over the internet and everything was set. ------------- or --------------- or ---------------- Unfortunately 1 week before going to Cozumel she had and emergency and was unable to care for us. She did not drop the ball and set us up with a laid back guy Troy Ruhr and supporting crew of Miguel and Alex of Pelagic Ventures. Email -------------------- Cell --------------- Pelagic Venture run a personal, friendly, professional dive service. Troy checked our boys out thoroughly but in a friendly firm manner for their checkout dives. Cozumel is just plain awesome for diving. We were not on a cattle boat but it was just our family. For $70 per person we got rental equipment for 2 tank dives with very personal friendly service. They picked us up at the dock at FA. On our next visit to Cozumel we will go with Troy and Miguel and dive until we drop. ISLAND: We did a lot of exploring. We drove around the loop of the southern part of the island and stopped multiple times at many of the establisments. FUN!! Punta Sur is beautiful and has the potential for being a whole day adventure with snorkeling and swimming. We did the ATV Wild Tour up the east shore road. It was dusty, rough going but fun. Go to -------------------------and purchase the "Can-Do" travel guide. FOOD: Dinners: Casa Denis (Lime Soup),La Choza,Prima, Guido's,Carlos'n Charles, Miramir in FA (Rasberry Soup) were good. For lunch or early dinner Conchita del Caribe was unbelievable for fresh seafood. For 3 breakfasts we went to The Grill. Austin and his staff provide a delicious variety menu with fast friendly service. I hope this info will be helpful. Enjoy, relax and whether you do AI or not Cozumel is a nice HOLIDAY

We came here for a week in May for the all-inclusive package including diving. Wow, did we have a great time! Our hotel room was spacious and clean with a large balcony. We never felt crowded even though there were three of us. The air conditioning was ice cold. We were pleasantly surprised that the food was always good (especially breakfast), and some of the dishes were downright excellent. We thoroughly enjoyed eating at the Miramar restaurant upstairs. We loved the bars on the beach and by the pool. Needless to say, the diving was superb and the snorkeling just off the hotel beach was very good. Overall, we had a wonderful time during our week stay at Fiesta Americana and would not hesitate about staying here again in the future.

Based on the Trip Advisor feedback and the FunJet package price, my partner and I chose Fiesta Americana and we left very pleased and are ready to return. About the… Room: Because our first room was at the very end of the ground floor (due to no 2nd or 3rd floor rooms), we gently complained and found ourselves in a great casita. At first we were a bit disappointed by not having an ocean view, but we quickly realized that we had a much larger room and were isolated from the majority of guests staying at the hotel. Thus, we never heard any neighboring guests. Activities: We kept ourselves very busy with great snorkeling and swimming. I highly recommend dropping into the water just north of the hotel (north of the little locker/rental shop) for a fun, carried-by-the-current snorkeling experience. The coral fans are more prevalent as well as other sea life. Snorkel before noon as the light is perfect. We learned that snorkeling in front of the hotel is just as good if not better than taking a snorkeling trip. In fact, many of the cruise excursion boats would bring the cruisers to snorkel near Fiesta. We went into town once (60 pesos) for some shopping. If you’ve been to Mexico before, you will enjoy avoiding the main drag and exploring the shops east of the cruise tourist “traps”. In retrospect, I wouldn’t even bother going to town again as there wasn’t much that I hadn’t seen before in other Mexican cities. Food: All was great (we had the all-inclusive package – bfast was the best and the chicken fajitas by the pool for lunch were perfect). The only buffet that we didn’t enjoy was the “international” night. Pick this night to try the El Miramar rest. (upstairs) or to go into town. Service: With the exception of the very crabby Fiesta kayak rental guy, everyone was very attentive and friendly. Next time: We will rent a car for a day to explore the beaches south of the hotel and to explore the rest of the island and bring our tennis shoes to play tennis.
