The hotel's cleanliness was very good, their room size was very spacious, especially for Cozumel. Staff was courteous for the most part. Ask for Pedro at the front desk, he seems to work the night shift, and he has a very warm smile and is extremely helpful! Amenities at the hotel were nice, clean and functional - all you could expect. Decor was simple, comfortable and functional. Don't go there expecting the Ritz Carlton, but it is very good, expecially for the price. We had no complaints.
We did not take the all inclusive option - and we were happy that we did not. Not because their food was bad, but we wanted to experience the local cuisine - and we were not disappointed. We did dine once at their Miramar fine restaurant, and we were very happy with the food, presentation, staff & service. But, we also explored restaurants recommended all around the island. We especially loved La Choza restaurant in Downtown. Seek it out out - we highly recommend it!
We also went diving for 5 days at the onsite dive shop (Dive House) and they were very good as well. We were happy with the dives, and the divemasters. The boats were in good shape, and had bathrooms on board. The staff on the boats were friendly and very helpful. We tipped them $10 US per day (for my wife & I) as they worked hard and made sure everthing went according to plan. They were especially helpful in helping my wife & I get suited up with all the gear.
Now, some more plugs for our favorite spots:
Coconuts restaurant on the other side of the island was great. Beautiful views and great seafood!
If you want the best ice cream and popsicle sticks EVER- go downtown and ask for an ice cream shop called La Flor de Michoacan. They are located at Calle 1a and 10 Ave, but they have other locations as well. They are are great place to go after a great dinner downtown!
I'm just passing on some tips for great places that we wish we had before we went. I hope you enjoy them as much as we did!
We also rented a car for 2 days and checked out other hotels on the island. We really loved La Cozumeleno hotel. If you want an idea for a very elegant and classy hotel which offers only all inclusives as far as we can tell, this looked like another place that we would consider as a nicer alternative to other hotels on the island. We were not impressed with the Presidente Intercontinental. Small rooms, nothing about it was special. La Cozumeleno blew them away!
One last plug: We went through Island Dreams travel (found them on the web - they offered us a GREAT deal - $400 less than we were going to pay the week before through someone else!) Look for them online. (By the way, I do not work for any of these places, I just got great service from all of them, so I decided that I should let everyone know!
Well these are our thoughts, hope you like our recommendations! Have Fun!
